Most of the previous studies on horseshoe crabs focused on their blood which contains hemolymph and amoebocyte lysate. This study aimed to determine the potential antibacterial and antifouling properties of different extracts from the carapace and the book gills of <i>Carcinoscorpius rotundicauda</i>. <b>Materials and Methods</b> The crude extracts were subjected to the bioactivity tests using the disc-diffusion and the inhibition of biofilm-formation measurement assays, for both the antibacterial and antifouling activities respectively. <b>Results</b> The results obtained indicated that the carapace extracts had stronger antibacterial and antifouling effects compared to the book gills extracts. Extracts obtained from the male displayed more activity compared to the extracts from the female with a few exceptions. Methanol and acetone carapace crude extracts showed the best overall performance. A sterol compound was isolated from the carapace acetone extracts of the male of <i>C. rotundicauda</i>. However, the compound did not display strong activity compared to the crude extract. The compound might be contributing to the observed activity with other components through a synergistic effect. <b>Conclusion</b> The presence of antibacterial and antifouling activities in the carapace and book gills extracts could be added to the complexity of the defence mechanisms of horseshoe crabs. The results of this study, therefore, may contribute to the knowledge of the defence mechanisms of <i>C. rotundicauda</i>. Further research is needed to determine the bioactivities of other parts of the animal and to explore their potential applications.<b>Background and Objectives</b> <i>Carapa procera</i> is a popular herb used by traditional healers in the western part of Burkina Faso. In a previous study, <i>Carapa procera </i>showed interesting antiplasmodial activity <i>in vitro </i>against <i>P. falciparum</i>. The present study aimed to evaluate its <i>in vivo</i> potential against malaria parasites and its safety in mice. <b>Materials and Methods</b> The antimalarial activity of the ethanolic extract was evaluated on <i>Plasmodium berghei </i>Anka in the Naval Medical Research Institute (NMRI) mice using the Peters 4-day suppressive test. The acute toxicity was performed according to the Lorke method and sub-acute toxicity following the Seewaboon method. The polyphenols and flavonoids were determined by colorimetric methods. The antioxidant activity of the extract was evaluated <i>in vitro</i> by Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAPP) and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) methods. <b>Results</b> <i>Carapa procera</i> had a good antiplasmodial activity at a dose of 250 mg kg<sup>1</sup> b.wt. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of polyphenols and flavonoids in the extracts. Soxhlet ethanolic extracts had the highest content in polyphenols and flavonoids. The antioxidant activity of Soxhlet ethanolic extracts was better than macerated extract by DPPH method and FRAP method. Besides, no mortality in mice was recorded with the soxhlet ethanolic extract. No toxic signs were observed in animals in the sub-acute toxicity test. <b>Conclusion</b> <i>Carapa procera </i>soxhlet ethanolic stem bark extract had a good <i>in vivo</i> antimalarial activity against <i>Plasmodium berghei </i>infection in mice and the extract was relatively safe when administered orally in mice.<b>Background and Objective</b> The adult female of the Black Soldier Fly (BSF) usually performs oviposition near decaying organic matter in cracks found in dry areas. In mass-rearing facilities or on a laboratory scale, females usually lay eggs on the provided ovitrap which is made of various types of materials. This study was aimed to observe the female preferential behaviour for ovitrap types during the oviposition period. <b>Materials and Methods</b> The study was conducted in a semi-outdoor screen house with direct sunlight. The ovitrap materials used were Dry leaves, wood, cardboard and plastic (infraboard). The parameters calculated in this study were ovitrap preference, oviposition duration, the number and weight of the eggs, fertility of eggs, development time and mortality of offspring. <b>Results</b> The BSF females preferred the wood ovitrap to other ovitrap types. This was indicated by the high number of females visits, the number of egg-laying females and the total number of eggs on the wood ovitrap. Eggs found in the plastic ovitrap had the highest mortality compared to eggs found in the other ovitraps. <b>Conclusion</b> The difference of ovitrap material affected female visitation preferences, the oviposition frequency and the duration of egg-laying of female BSF but did not affect offspring development time in any of the stages (egg-adults).<b>Background and Objective</b> Chitosan has many functional properties and biological activities. This work aimed to prepare and characterize Chitosan Nanoparticles (CN). Then, evaluate the hypolipidemic and antioxidant effect of CN in rats. Incorporate CN in camel yogurt and evaluation of yogurt properties. <b>Materials and Methods</b> Chitosan Nanoparticles (CN) were prepared and analyzed for the size, zeta potential and poly Polydispersity Index (PDI). Total 24 rats were divided into 4 groups, the negative control group was fed on the basal diet and the positive control group was fed on a High-Fat Diet (HFD), the group I and II were fed on the HFD+(CC) or (CN). After the feeding period for CN and CC groups were a decrease in body weight, serum lipid profile and liver function in both tested groups and an increase in HDL-cholesterol and an increase in antioxidants in the CN group more than that in the CC group was observed. mRNA expression with qPCR for hepatic PPARγ, HL, GSS and CYP2E1 genes was performed to investigate the alterations in their levels after CN treatment on the liver of rats fed with HFD. <b>Conclusion</b> CN possesses the ability to improve the impairment of lipid metabolism as strongly associated with gene expressions related to lipogenesis and oxidative stress. Therefore, the present study was designed to investigate the curative effect of <i>Salvia officinalis </i>Extract<i> </i>(SOE) and<i> </i>17β-estradiol (E<sub>2</sub>) and their combination<i> </i>on bone loss in female rats with ovariectomy-induced estrogen deficiency <b>Materials and Methods</b> Forty adult female albino rats were divided into five groups, which included Sham control (Sham), ovariectomy (OVX), OVX+SOE, OVX+E<sub>2</sub> and OVX +SOE+E<sub>2</sub>.<i> </i>SOE (10 mL kg<sup></sup><sup>1</sup>) and E<sub>2</sub> (30 that both SOE and E<sub>2</sub> or their combined administration are efficient inhibitors against ovariectomy-induced bone loss in female rats.<b>Background and Objective</b> Tri-sodium Copper of chlorophyllins (Agri-Safe) is a novel biocide using recently to control the mosquitoes as a larvicide. Because, the lack of adequate data on the toxicity of this compound, more toxicological studies on this new compound are necessary. Therefore the study aimed to evaluate the adverse effects of this new insecticide and in comparison with the traditional insecticide Deltamethrin (DM). <b>Materials and Methods</b> Twenty-five adult male rats were randomly divided into five groups. The first group was kept in control. The second and third groups were administered at doses of 0.59 and 0.24 mg kg<sup>1</sup> b.wt., of DM. The fourth and 5th groups were administrated at doses of 250 and 100 mg kg<sup>1</sup> b.wt. of Agri-Safe respectively. The administrations were orally by gavage for 90 consecutive days. The rats were humanly sacrificed and whole blood was collected for hematological parameters and bone marrow was collected for mutagenicity assays. <b>Results</b> The estimated LD<sub>50</sub> of DM and Agri-Safe were 11.76 and more than 5000 mg kg<sup>1</sup> b.wt., respectively. Both insecticides induced slight hepatotoxicity but not nephrotoxicity. The high and low doses of DM induced prominent oxidative stress while Agri-Safe did not induce oxidative stress. The results of genotoxicity revealed that DM caused greater mutagenic effect at high and low doses, while Agri-Safe induced slight significant genotoxicity at high-dose only. <b>Conclusion</b> It can be concluded that Deltamethrin (DM) can induce oxidative stress and prominent genotoxicity while tri-sodium copper of chlorophyllins has a low side effect and its effect is due to copper elements.<b>Background and Objective</b> The contaminants in a marine ecosystem like mercury and synthetic hormones can disrupt the regulation of natural endocrine and reproductive systems of most organisms.
