Weak magnetic field (WMF) and aerobic granular sludge (AGS) technology were both robust technologies in wastewater treatments. In this study, the AGS characteristics and nutrient removal performances were all estimated at the load of 20 to 40 mg/L ammonia nitrogen (NH4+-N) and 0 to 40mT magnetic field. Results showed that 10mT was beneficial for keeping stable structure of granules when increasing NH4+-N load, accompanied with increasing protein (PN) secretion in EPS. Besides, all the total nitrogen (TN) removal rate under 10mT reached above 90%, while they were all less than 80% under other WMF strength when loading with 40 mg/L NH4+-N. Illumina MiSeq sequencing showed that NH4+-N load changed the bacterial richness and diversity when the magnetic strength was 10mT. ACTA1 mutations are responsible of several muscle disorders including nemaline, cores, actin aggregate myopathies and fiber-type disproportion. We report clinical, muscle imaging, histopatological and genetic data of an Italian family carrying a novel ACTA1 mutation. All affected members showed a late-presenting, diffuse muscle weakness with sternocleidomastoideus and temporalis atrophy. Mild dysmorphic features were also detected. The most affected muscles by muscle MRI were rectus abdominis, gluteus minimus, vastus intermedius and both gastrocnemii. Muscle biopsy showed the presence of nemaline bodies with several unusual dark areas at Gomori Trichrome, corresponding to unstructured cores with abundant electrodense material by electron microscopy. The molecular analysis revealed missense variant c.148G>A; p.(Gly50Ser) in the exon 3 of ACTA1, segregating with affected members in the family. We performed a functional essay of fibre contractility showing a higher pCa50 (a measure of the calcium sensitivity of force) of type 1 fibers compared to control subjects' type 1 muscle fibers. Our findings expand the clinico-pathological spectrum of ACTA1-related congenital myopathies and the genetic spectrum of core-rod myopathies.The burden of prostate cancer is increasing. Nevertheless, fungal contamination with Eurotium species are quite common, causing nutritional depletion, spoilage and economic losses. The aim of this work was to assess Eurotium amstelodami, E. chevalieri, E. repens and E. rubrum growth in a feed matrix at different conditions of water activity (0.71-0.97) and temperature (5, 15, 25, 30 and 37°C). It was found that Eurotium species are able to grow in a wide range of water activity and temperature in a short period of time (7 days) and faster than in synthetic media. Rosso and probabilistic models were applied in order to determine the limiting and optimum growth conditions as well as growth probability at certain combinations of environmental factors. Both models provided an accurate fit to the cardinal parameters and good performance for growth/no growth cases. This is the first report assessing the growth parameters of Eurotium species directly in animal feed. Data obtained in the present study is useful to predict and avoid Eurotium species growth in animal feed.The origin and zoonotic transmission route of SARS-CoV-2 remain speculative. We discuss scenarios for the zoonotic emergence of SARS-CoV-2, and also explore the missing evidence and ecological considerations that are necessary to confidently identify the origin and transmission route of SARS-CoV-2 and to prevent future pandemics of zoonotic viruses.
Knee periarticular bone mineral density (BMD) is influenced by limb malalignment. The purpose of this study is to determine if the nature and magnitude of alignment correction (ΔAlign°) performed during primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) had an impact on BMD at the metaphysis of the distal femur (DFmr) and proximal tibia (PTb).

Seventy-one patients (male= 37 |female= 34; age 65±2 years) underwent full-length standing X-rays and knee-specific BMD measurements using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry before and 3 and 6 months following TKA. A t-test was used to compare baseline demographics and knee-specific BMD measures (medial/lateral DFmr/PTb) between patients with preoperative valgus (VAL, N= 18) and varus (VAR, N= 53) malalignment. Pearson correlation analysis was used to determine if ΔAlign° correlated with site-specific knee BMD changes. A 2 (varus/valgus) by 3 (time) analysis of variance was used to compare site-specific BMD (%ΔBMD) changes following TKA. Type I error was set at α= 0.05 for all analyses.

VAR patients had higher preoperative BMD for medial measurement at both the DFmr (VAR 1.17±0.06 g/cm
; VAL 1.00±0.09 g/cm
) and PTb (VAR 1.41±0.07 g/cm
; VAL 1.29±0.14 g/cm
) (P < .05). ΔAlign° and %ΔBMD were correlated on the medial side of the DFmr (r= 0.393, P < .05) and lateral/medial BMD ratio at the PTb (r=-0.670, P < .01) in VAL patients. Only VAL patients had significant %ΔBMD changes at 6 months postoperative with increases on the medial side only for the DFmr and PTb (+4%-8%, P < .05).

Valgus patients exhibited reduced medial BMD at DFmr and PTb and showed sustained improvements 6 months postsurgery. Mechanical axis correction may be clinically impactful to bone remodeling when correcting valgus malalignment.

To assess doctors' communication skills in mainland China using the SEGUE Framework.

A survey on doctors' communication skills with doctors (n = 1361) and patients (n = 1757) from 14 provinces in eastern, central and western China was conducted.

The doctors' self-evaluation scores were higher than patients' evaluations (p < .001). The scores of female doctors were higher than males (p = .022). Both doctors' self-evaluations and patients' evaluations indicated that the scores of doctors in tertiary hospitals were higher than those in primary hospitals.

Doctors' communication skills don't match patients' needs. Female doctors are more empathetic and patient than male doctors and consequently have better communication skills. Doctors in tertiary hospitals have better communication skills because tertiary hospitals provide more training opportunities in communication skills and have better medical services and management.

This study confirms the applicability of the SEGUE Framework to doctors and patients in mainland China. The effectiveness of cultivating doctors' communication skills should be evaluated through feedback from the perspective of both doctors and patients. Medical institutes need to prioritize patients' needs and provide training in doctors' communication skills to address the discrepancy in the perceptions of doctors and patients.

We documented the impacts of infant and adult vaccination programs on the epidemiology of invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) in Indigenous and non-Indigenous adults. IPD notifications from the National Notifiable Disease Surveillance System were analysed from 2002 to 2017, grouped by age, vaccine serotype group and Indigenous status. Since the universal funding of infant and elderly pneumococcal vaccination programs in January 2005, total IPD decreased by 19% in non-Indigenous adults aged ≥65 years but doubled in Indigenous adults aged ≥50 years. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in the diagnosis of sepsis has been found to be higher in non-survivors than in survivors, and that is associated with mortality. A higher NLR in non-survivors than in survivors has been reported in two studies during patient follow-up; however, NLR was not controlled for sepsis severity. Thus, the objective of this study was to determine whether there is an association between NLR in the first seven days and mortality controlling for sepsis severity.

This observational study, which included septic patients, was conducted in the Intensive Care Units of 3 Spanish hospitals. NLR was recorded on the first, fourth, and eighth day of sepsis. Multiple logistic regression analyses were carried out to determine the association between NLR during the first 7 days of sepsis diagnosis and mortality controlling for sepsis severity.

Thirty-day non-surviving patients (n=68) compared to surviving patients (n=135) showed higher NLR on the first (p<0.001), fourth (p<0.001), and eighth (p<0.001) day of sepsis diagnosis. Multiple logistic regression analysis found an association between NLR at days first (p<0.001), fourth (p=0.004), and eighth (p=0.01) of sepsis diagnosis and mortality controlling for SOFA and lactic acid in those days.

Healthcare workers have a high risk of cross-infection during the care of Covid-19 cases. Personal protective equipment can reduce the risk. However, healthcare workers must be trained for the proper use of personal protective equipment to decrease exposure risk. This study aimed to investigate whether videos available on YouTube, presenting procedures of donning and doffing personal protective equipment, can be a useful learning resource for healthcare workers.

A search of YouTube was conducted using the keywords "Covid-19, personal protective equipment, donning, doffing". Two investigators reviewed each video and collected the basic video information. Total videos were assessed independently as educationally useful and non-useful categories using a valid tool. The relationship of each video's usefulness with viewers' preferences and the upload source were analyzed.

A total of 300 videos were assessed; 66 (22%) fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Total video scores of educationally useful videos were higher than non-useful ones; the differences were significant.
