We aimed to reveal the underlying genetic defect in a multigenerational Chinese family with autosomal dominant concomitant strabismus complicated by multiple ocular developmental abnormalities.

Comprehensive ophthalmic examinations were performed in 14 patients and 24 healthy family members. Whole exome sequencing was performed, and Sanger sequencing was used to confirm the probable mutation in all the family members.

Concomitant strabismus was the predominant phenotype in the affected family members, although the patients also exhibited variable phenotypes, including nystagmus, mild iris abnormalities, myopia, cataract, and coloboma. An R208W mutation in
was identified as the pathogenic mutation in the affected family members.

We recommend considering
as a candidate gene in the diagnostic screen for familial concomitant strabismus in order to avoid missed diagnosis of the mild ocular abnormalities. Careful examinations of mild ocular phenotypes are necessary for an accurate diagnosis of varied ocular abnormalities in the families with the
mutation, and proper diagnosis can facilitate genetic and clinical counseling for affected patients.

Selleck Phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate The present study examines U.S. trends in the past-year prevalence of binge drinking, marijuana use, illicit drug use, and polysubstance use across sexual identity subgroups (gay, lesbian, bisexual and heterosexual). Methods The data come from four independent, cross-sectional samples measured by the National Survey of Family Growth (2006-2010, 2011-2013, 2013-2015, and 2015-2017). Based on the consistency in the sampling procedures used over time, merging the four data sets was possible. The target population is men and women 15-44 years of age. Results Lesbian women had the sharpest decline in past-year binge drinking over time, followed by heterosexual women. The prevalence of binge drinking for bisexual women did not change significantly over time and was higher in 2015-2017 than for any sexual identity subgroup. In contrast, there were no significant differences in the prevalence of binge drinking among men by sexual identity subgroup. Past-year abstinence from substance use was consistently lower among lesbian women, gay men, and bisexual women relative to other sexual identity subgroups. Polysubstance use was consistently more prevalent among bisexual women (e.g., 32.3% in 2015-2017) as compared to other sexual identity subgroups. Conclusion This is the first study to examine U.S. national trends in alcohol, marijuana, illicit drug, and polysubstance use across sexual identity subgroups, and demonstrates that sexual identity subgroup differences were robust with relatively few changes in trends over time. The consistently high rates of binge drinking and polysubstance use among bisexual women deserve much closer attention based on the related health consequences.Purpose To report a case of bilateral choroiditis following COVID-19 vaccination.Study Design Case report. Results A 34-year old male presented with visual loss one week after the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Examination showed large serous detachment of the macula in the right eye and severe choroidal thickening noted on ultrasonography in both eyes. The patient's condition improved rapidly with oral corticosteroids with significant resolution of the serous detachments within two weeks of initiating treatment and complete visual recovery subsequently. Conclusions The onset of ocular symptoms starting within one week following vaccination suggests an inflammatory or autoimmune response to the vaccine. Ophthalmologists should consider the option of autoimmune and other inflammatory ocular problems, which may manifest as uveitis, following COVID-19 vaccination. Timely diagnosis and treatment with corticosteroids can result in good visual and structural outcome.
Association of interleukin-10 (IL-10) polymorphism with diabetes and its complication was recently established, while there were few kinds of research considering the potential role of IL-10 in gestational diabetes (GDM). This study aimed to systematically review the association between serum IL-10 level and GDM susceptibility.

A comprehensive literature search for the published studies in PubMed, Scopus, CENTRAL (Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials), and Google Scholar databases was performed for English language papers published up to 31st July 2020. Following key terms were used "Cytokine level" OR "Interleukin-10" OR "IL-10," OR "Pro-inflammatory Cytokines" OR "gestational diabetes mellitus" OR "GDM." Fixed or random-effects models were used to estimate the pooled SDM and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Begg's funnel plot was used to assess the potential for publication bias.

In our meta-analysis, a total of ten studies for
risk of GDM involving 609 GDM cases and 664 controls were included. No significant association between IL-10 levels and risk of GDM as compared to control subjects (SMD = -0.09, 95% CI = -0.73 to 0.55). Subgroup analysis based on ethnicity also does not reveal any association between IL-10 levels and risk of GDM as compared to control subjects has more or less similar trends in Caucasian (SMD = -0.07, 95% CI = -0.58 to 0.45) as well as Asian population (SMD = -0.03, 95% CI = -1.56 to 1.49).

Our findings suggest that the serum IL-10 level may not be significantly associated with an increased risk of susceptibility to GDM. Further well-designed prospective studies embedded with a large sample size are needed to confirm these findings.

The quality of the academic workforce is influenced by multi-level interactionist factors yet there is limited research into these influencing factors.

To investigate relationships between individual characteristics of Australian occupational therapy academics and work-related variables.

An exploratory cross-sectional online survey collected demographic data and used standardized scales including the Turnover Intention Scale, 9-item Utrecht Work Engagement Scale, Work-Life Balance Scale, Role Overload Scale and Self-Defined Burnout Scale. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics.

Academics who were more than five years in their current academic level were significantly more likely to consider leaving their job; more often frustrated when not given opportunity to achieve their work-related goals; and less engaged. Those who had worked in higher education for longer than ten years were more likely to report role overload while participants working in higher education for less than five years were less likely to report burnout.

To meet current and future demand for Australian occupational therapists, an engaged and supported academic workforce is needed. These findings suggest the need for attention to mentoring and career development particularly for those in academic levels longer than five years to increase work engagement and retention.

We extend recent research by investigating the need for cognitive closure (NCC), or the desire for stable and certain knowledge, to help answer this question. Consistent with Role Congruity Theory, we propose that individuals with this need are more likely to disapprove of women who break traditional gender roles as well as women leaders, a subcategory of nontraditional woman. We studied the NCC effect relative to the effects of gender and political orientation (i.e., women and political liberals are less likely to disapprove of women leaders). In four studies, including state and dispositional treatments of NCC and a brief meta-analyses, we argue that NCC has an indirect effect on negative attitudes toward women leaders through hostile sexism, among both men and women and from both sides of the political spectrum. One of the imperatives in experiential learning is finding the dynamic ice breaker that creates a congenial, collegial atmosphere and segues into a resonant learning experience. No matter the topic or issue to be investigated, the ice breaker signals and ultimately confirms for the learner whether (1) they will be heard and supported by the faculty leads, (2) there is an overarching, relevant purpose to the exercise, (3) they are in a supportive, comfortable environment and (4) they have ultimately made the right choice in choosing the session.
To (1) describe the level of hope, optimism, and gratitude in a sample of minority health professional college students. (2) To examine the association between hope, optimism, and gratitude with wellbeing domains. link2 Participants One hundred and thirty-two (
= 132) college students from the Nursing, Medicine, and Allied Health programs. Methods Cross-sectional survey study assessed wellbeing across the five domains of positive emotion, engagement, relationships, meaning, and accomplishment. Results Mean and Standard Deviation on hope, optimism, and gratitude were 50.2 ± 5.6; 21.7 ± 4.34; and 36.3 ± 5.35, respectively. Hope, optimism, and gratitude were positively associated with domains of wellbeing, controlling for gender and age. link3 Conclusion Students maintained a positive outlook in life. Hopeful, op6timistic, and grateful students experienced positive emotion, were more engaged in their daily activities, had more supportive relationships, had a better sense of direction in life, and more often accomplisheda better sense of direction in life, and more often accomplished their goals. Interpretations and future directions are discussed.
In the Ottawa 2018 Consensus framework for good assessment, a set of criteria was presented for systems of assessment. Currently, programmatic assessment is being established in an increasing number of programmes. In this Ottawa 2020 consensus statement for programmatic assessment insights from practice and research are used to define the principles of programmatic assessment.

For fifteen programmes in health professions education affiliated with members of an expert group (
= 20), an inventory was completed for the perceived components, rationale, and importance of a programmatic assessment design. Input from attendees of a programmatic assessment workshop and symposium at the 2020 Ottawa conference was included. The outcome is discussed in concurrence with current theory and research.

Twelve principles are presented that are considered as important and recognisable facets of programmatic assessment. Overall these principles were used in the curriculum and assessment design, albeit with a range of approaches and rigor, suggesting that programmatic assessment is an achievable education and assessment model, embedded both in practice and research.
