The function of ZCCHC14 in tumours remains unclear. In this research, we explored the expression, function and related molecular mechanisms of ZCCHC14 in human non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Immunochemistry staining showed that ZCCHC14 was low-expressed or absent in NSCLC tissues. In NSCLC patients, the low expression of ZCCHC14 in tumour tissues was significantly correlated with TNM stage, differentiation degree and adverse clinical outcome (P less then .05). The proliferation and invasion ability of cancer cells transfected with ZCCHC14 CRISPR/Ca9 KO plasmids was significantly enhanced (P less then .05). Immunoblotting analysis indicated that the expression of p-P38, cyclinD1 and MMP7 were significantly up-regulated after disabling ZCCHC14 (P less then .05). We used MAPK-P38 pathway inhibitor doramapimod (BIRB 796) to inhibit P38 signalling pathway activity and determined that the agent significantly disrupted the function of ZCCHC14 and hindered the proliferation and invasion of the tumour. The finding revealed that ZCCHC14 can regulate proliferation and invasion of NSCLC through the P38 pathway. ZCCHC14 plays a crucial regulatory role in the development of NSCLC and may become a zinc finger target for clinical treatment.The intracellular domain of UNC5B contains both death domain and caspase-3 cleavage site, and is regarded as a functional domain that mediates apoptosis. However, in our previous studies, we found that the death domain of UNC5B in bladder cancer cells could not be activated to promote apoptosis. In this study, different UNC5B truncates (residue 399-945, residue 412-945) were created to explore whether the caspase-3 cleavage site (site 412), as another potential functional domain of its intracellular portion, could be activated to induce apoptosis in bladder cancer cells. Using mass spectrometry, we acquired a comprehensive and detailed identification of differentially expressed proteins by overexpressing UNC5B and its truncates. Protein-protein-interaction (PPI) network analysis was also applied to investigate the aggregation of related proteins and predict the functional changes. EDU assay, apoptosis, xenograft tumour implantation, migration, invasion and tumour metastasis were performed to comprehensively identify the effects of UNC5B truncates on bladder cancer cells. We demonstrate that the intracellular domain of UNC5B promotes cell proliferation in vitro and tumour formation in vivo, by binding to a large number of ribosomal proteins. The overexpression of intracellular domain also facilitates cells to migrate, invade and metastasize by interacting with fibronectin, beta-catenin and vimentin. In addition, we reveal that overexpressing the intracellular domain of UNC5B cannot bind or activate cleaved caspase-3 to trigger apoptosis in bladder cancer cells.
Attractant-based trapping is used in the establishment of pest-free areas and areas of low pest prevalence for fruit flies (Diptera Tephritidae). Male lures are commonly used attractants in fruit fly trapping. In this study, the effects of male lure dispensers, traps and combinations of dispensers and traps on monitoring of two fruit fly pests, Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) and Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel), were investigated in South Africa.

In the male-lure-based trapping systems evaluated, trimedlure (TML) for C. capitata and methyl eugenol (ME) for B. dorsalis, the type of dispenser affected catches for both species. Higher catches of B. dorsalis males were recorded in bucket traps baited with a dispenser containing 15 g ME compared with traps baited with dispensers containing either 4 g ME or 2 g ME. Catches of C. capitata males were higher with dispensers containing TML than those with TML plus extender (Capilure®). The type of trap used with TML also influenced catches of C. capitata with higher numbers recorded in yellow Delta trap compared with the Sensus bucket trap.

Dispensers with higher ME loadings are more effective for monitoring of B. dorsalis. The yellow Delta trap baited with TML (without extender) would be an effective monitoring system for C. capitata.
