The incidence of small, differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) cases has been increasing in the United States and the world mainly due to incidental detection because of widespread use of diagnostic modalities. While the option of active surveillance instead of surgical resection is getting more popular, there is still an open discussion about the best approach in these cases.

The National Cancer Database was queried for patients diagnosed with non-metastatic small T1/N0 DTC between 2004 and 2016, who have known surgical status and Charlson comorbidity index of two or less. We evaluated the overall survival (OS) based on the surgery status using Kaplan-Meier estimates and multivariable cox regression analyses.

A total of 98,501 patients with non-metastatic small DTC were included, within which 96,612 (98.1%) were treated with surgery, and 1889 (1.9%) were not treated with surgery or other ablative modalities. We found that patients who were treated with surgery had better OS compared to patients who were ned to patients who were not treated with surgery. Notwithstanding the limitations of the current analysis, these results call for caution prior to recommending routine surveillance for all patients with small DTC.
To report radiographic characteristics of a case of a patient with neurofibromatosis involving the maxillomandibular complex and to point out other dental radiographic characteristics that are found in the scientific literature to help the dentist when faced with a case of neurofibromatosis.

Male, 31years old, referred for radiographic examination. During anamnesis and physical examination, lesions were noted, which were papules and café-au-lait patches larger than 1cm on the trunk and upper limbs, further to Lisch nodules (brown spots on the iris) and axillary and inguinal ephelides. This short review relates molecular and mechanistic processes to the observed pathological diversity associated to alpha-synuclein aggregation.In autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), the persisting inflammation contributes to fibrosis progression, for which conventional biochemical markers manifest relatively unsatisfactory prediction. Herein, we assessed the value of serum CD48 (sCD48) as an indicator for inflammation and fibrosis in AIH type 1. The levels of sCD48 were detected first in an exploratory cohort using ELISA. In this cohort, compared with healthy controls (4.90 ng/mL, P  less then  0.0001), primary biliary cholangitis (7.32 ng/mL, P  less then  0.0001), and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (7.76 ng/mL, P  less then  0.0001), sCD48 levels were elevated in AIH (12.81 ng/mL) and correlated with histological inflammation and fibrosis. Further using multivariate logistic regression analysis, sCD48 was identified as an independent predictor for both significant inflammation (G3-4) and advanced fibrosis (S3-4). Two predictive scores, based on sCD48, were constructed for diagnosing significant inflammation and advanced fibrosis (sCD48-AIH-SI and sCD48-AIH-AF, respectively). Using these data as a premise, predictive abilities were subsequently evaluated and verified in a validation cohort. In the exploratory cohort, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of sCD48 and sCD48-AIH-SI, for significant inflammation, were 0.748 and 0.813, respectively. Besides, during treatment follow-up, sCD48 levels gradually decreased from immunosuppression initiation to re-evaluation biopsy, in parallel with aspartate transaminase, total sera IgG, and fibrosis-4 score. For AIH patients in a re-evaluation biopsy cohort, sCD48 could predict significant fibrosis (S2-4). Further using immunohistochemistry, hepatic CD48 expression was elevated in AIH patients and decreased after treatment. In conclusion, sCD48 and sCD48-based predictive scores predict histological inflammation and fibrosis in AIH-1. Detecting sCD48 might help in the clinical management of AIH.Nipah virus (NiV) is a zoonotic virus that can pose a serious threat to human and livestock health. Old-world fruit bats (Pteropus spp.) are the natural reservoir hosts for NiV, and Pteropus lylei, Lyle's flying fox, is an important host of NiV in mainland Southeast Asia. NiV can be transmitted from bats to humans directly via bat-contaminated foods (i.e., date palm sap or fruit) or indirectly via livestock or other intermediate animal hosts. Here we construct risk maps for NiV spillover and transmission by combining ecological niche models for the P. lylei bat reservoir with other spatial data related to direct or indirect NiV transmission (livestock density, foodborne sources including fruit production, and human population). We predict the current and future (2050 and 2070) distribution of P. lylei across Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Our best-fit model predicted that central and western regions of Thailand and small areas in Cambodia are currently the most suitable habitats for P. lylei. However, due to climate change, the species range is predicted to expand to include lower northern, northeastern, eastern, and upper southern Thailand and almost all of Cambodia and lower southern Vietnam. This expansion will create additional risk areas for human infection from P. lylei in Thailand. Our combined predictive risk maps showed that central Thailand, inhabited by 2.3 million people, is considered highly suitable for the zoonotic transmission of NiV from P. lylei. These current and future NiV transmission risk maps can be used to prioritize sites for active virus surveillance and developing awareness and prevention programs to reduce the risk of NiV spillover and spread in Thailand.It has been reported that the efficacy of EGFR-TKI is predicted, not by which exon of the EGFR gene is mutated, but by the structural change in the EGFR protein due to the mutation. Here, we present an EGFR-mutated lung cancer patient with a 13-year history of anticancer treatment, in which EGFR ex.19 deletion (E746_S752 > V) and G724S mutations were detected by liquid biopsy during 12th line afatinib treatment, and switching to dacomitinib showed improvement of cancerous meningitis. We choose dacomitinib as 14th line chemotherapy based on ex.19 deletion and G724S mutant EGFR structure and its penetration rate to cerebral fluid, which successfully prolonged her life by 6 months. This study aimed to analyze the extent of fatigue responses after female soccer matches and the ensuing recovery time course of performance, physiological, and perceptual responses.

Three databases (PubMed, Web of Science, and SPORTDiscus) were searched in October 2020 and updated in November 2021. Studies were included when participants were female soccer players, regardless of their ability level. Further, the intervention was an official soccer match with performance, physiological, or perceptual parameters collected pre- and post-match (immediately, 12h, 24h, 48h, or 72h-post).

A total of 26 studies (n = 465 players) were included for meta-analysis. Most performance parameters showed some immediate post-match reduction (effect size [ES] = - 0.72 to - 1.80), apart from countermovement jump (CMJ; ES = - 0.04).
