Neuromas causing sensory disturbance can substantially affect nerve function and quality of life. Historically, passive termination of the nerve end and proximal relocation to muscle or bone has been performed after neuroma resection, but this method does not allow for neurologic recovery or prevent recurrent neuromas. The use of processed nerve allografts (PNAs) for intercalary reconstruction of nerve defects following neuroma resection is reasonable for neuroma management, although reported outcomes are limited. The purpose of this study was to assess the outcomes of pain reduction and functional recovery following neuroma resection and intercalary nerve reconstruction using PNA.

Data on outcomes of PNA use for peripheral nerve reconstruction were collected from a multicenter registry study. The registry database was queried for upper extremity nerve reconstruction with PNA after resection of symptomatic neuroma. Patients completing both pain and quantitative sensory assessments were included in the analysis. Improvement in pain-related symptoms was determined via patient self-reported outcomes and/or the visual analog scale. Meaningful sensory recovery was defined as a score of at least S3 on the Medical Research Council Classification scale.

Twenty-five repairs involving 21 patients were included in this study. The median interval from injury to reconstruction was 386 days, and the average nerve defect length was 31 mm. Pain improved in 80% of repairs. Meaningful sensory recovery was achieved in 88% of repairs.

To improve the current situation of P. massoniana plantations, three different sizes of forest gaps (large gaps, medium gaps and small gaps) were established to observe whether gap setting can improve the soil fertility and plant diversity of forest plantations. The results showed that compared with the control, the soil organic matter content of different soil layers increased significantly in the medium forest gap and large forest gap. The content of soil organic matter in the surface layer of the middle gap had the largest increase (80.64%). Compared with the control, the content of soil-available potassium between different soil layers decreased significantly by 15.93% to 25.80%. The soil hydrolysable nitrogen reached its maximum under the medium gap. Soil moisture showed significant changes among different gap treatments, different soil layers and their interaction, decreasivement of plant diversity and soil physicochemical properties, these results suggest that a medium gap should be established in a plantation for natural restoration.Tillering ability is a key agronomy trait for wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) production. Studies on a dwarf monoculm wheat mutant (dmc) showed that ARF11 played an important role in tillering of wheat. In this study, a total of 67 ARF family members were identified and clustered to two main classes with four subgroups based on their protein structures. The promoter regions of T. aestivum ARF (TaARF) genes contain a large number of cis-acting elements closely related to plant growth and development, and hormone response. The segmental duplication events occurred commonly and played a major role in the expansion of TaARFs. The gene collinearity degrees of the ARFs between wheat and other grasses, rice and maize, were significantly high. The evolution distances among TaARFs determine their expression profiles, such as homoeologous genes have similar expression profiles, like TaARF4-3A-1, TaARF4-3A-2 and their homoeologous genes. The expression profiles of TaARFs in various tissues or organs indicated TaARF3, TaARF4, TaARF9 and TaARF22 and their homoeologous genes played basic roles during wheat development. TaARF4, TaARF9, TaARF12, TaARF15, TaARF17, TaARF21, TaARF25 and their homoeologous genes probably played basic roles in tiller development. qRT-PCR analyses of 20 representative TaARF genes revealed that the abnormal expressions of TaARF11 and TaARF14 were major causes constraining the tillering of dmc. Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) contents in dmc were significantly less than that in Guomai 301 at key tillering stages. Exogenous IAA application significantly promoted wheat tillering, and affected the transcriptions of TaARFs. These data suggested that TaARFs as well as IAA signaling were involved in controlling wheat tillering. This study provided valuable clues for functional characterization of ARFs in wheat.
High doses of ethylenebisdithiocarbamate (EBDC) are used in banana production, and unused pesticide mixture (solution) is often disposed of improperly. This can result in soil and water contamination and present an undue risk to rural communities and the environment. An alternative to reduce the environmental impacts caused by pesticide residues is the biobeds treatment. It is necessary to establish if the composition of the proposed biomixtures supports microbial activity to degrade pesticides in biobeds. This research aimed to evaluate the EBDC effect on the distribution and abundance of microbial populations in polluted biomixtures .

For this purpose, a biomixture based on banana stem, mulch, and Fluvisol soil (502525% v/v) was prepared and polluted with 1,000 mg L
EBDC. The response variables kinetics were determined every 14 days for three months, such as pH, organic matter, moisture, cation exchange capacity, microbial colonies, and cell counts at three depths within the experimental units.

EBDCal counts were useful to establish the mobility and degradation time of the pesticide and the effectiveness of the biomixture. Based on the results, it is appropriate to include the quantification of microbial populations to assess the effectiveness of pesticide degradation and the maturity level of the biomixture.

However, public reference databases often lack recently generated genomic data such as metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs), which can limit the sensitivity of read-mapping approaches. We previously developed the Struo pipeline in order to provide a straight-forward method for constructing custom databases; however, the pipeline does not scale well enough to cope with the ever-increasing number of publicly available microbial genomes. Moreover, the pipeline does not allow for efficient database updating as new data are generated. To address these issues, we developed Struo2, which is >3.5 fold faster than Struo at database generation and can also efficiently update existing databases. We also provide custom Kraken2, Bracken, and HUMAnN3 databases that can be easily updated with new genomes and/or individual gene sequences. Efficient database updating, coupled with our pre-generated databases, enables "assembly-enhanced" profiling, which increases database comprehensiveness via inclusion of native genomic content. Inclusion of newly generated genomic content can greatly increase database comprehensiveness, especially for understudied biomes, which will enable more accurate assessments of microbiome diversity.Dysregulation and prognostic roles of Karyopherin α2 (KPNA2) were reported in many malignancies including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). A multi-omics analysis of KPNA2 is needed to gain a deeper understanding of its multilevel molecular characteristics and provide novel clues for HCC diagnosis, prognosis, and target therapy. Herein multi-omic alterations of KPNA2 were analyzed at genetic, epigenetic, transcript, and protein levels with evaluation of their relevance with clinicopathological features of HCC by integrative analyses. The significant correlations of KPNA2 expression with its gene copy number variation (CNV) and methylation status were shown through Spearman correlation analyses. With Cox regression, Kaplan-Meier survival, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analyses, based on the factors of KPNA2 CNV, methylation, expression, and tumor stage, risk models for HCC overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were constructed which could discriminate the 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year OS/DFS status effectively. With Microenvironment Cell Populations-counter (MCP-counter), the immune infiltrations of HCC samples were evaluated and their associations with KPNA2 were shown. KPNA2 expression in liver was found to be influenced by low fat diet and presented significant correlations with fatty acid metabolism and fatty acid synthase activity in HCC. KPNA2 was detected lowered in HCC patient's plasma by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), consistent with its translocation to nuclei of HCC cells. In conclusion, KPNA2 multilevel dysregulation in HCC and its correlations with immune infiltration and the fatty acid metabolism pathway indicated its multiple roles in HCC. The clinicopathological significance of KPNA2 was highlighted through the in-depth analyses at multilevels.
This work aimed to explore the association of cerebral microvascular perfusion and diffusion dynamics measured by intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) imaging with initial neurological function and clinical outcome in acute stroke.

In total, 39 patients were assessed with admission National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and day-90 modified Rankin Scale (mRS). The parametrical maps of IVIM were obtained, including apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), pseudo-diffusion coefficient (D*), true diffusion coefficient (D) and perfusion fraction (f). The fD* was the product of f and D*. Moreover, the ratios of lesioned/contralateral parameters (rADC, rD, rD*, rf and rfD*) were also obtained. Partial correlation analysis was used to evaluate the correlations between the admission NIHSS/day-90 mRS and each parameter ratio, with lesion volumes controlled.
