Acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) is a life-threatening disease associated with high morbidity and mortality.

To evaluate the diameter of dissected ascending aorta in patients diagnosed with ATAAD and whether the aortic diameter is associated with preoperative adverse events.

A total of 108 patients diagnosed with ATAAD who underwent emergency operation under hypothermic circulatory arrest were enrolled in this study. Demographic characteristics and perioperative data were recorded. In all patients, preoperative chest and abdomen computed tomography (CT) scans were performed.

Median age of the patients was 61.5 (52.5-70.5) years and median body mass index (BMI) was 28.2 (25.1-32.6) cm
. The number of female patients was 37 (25%). Median diameter of the ascending aorta was 5.0 (4.5-6) cm and 53.8% of the patients had an aortic diameter < 5.0 cm, while 32.3% of the patients had an aortic diameter of 4.5cm and 72.0% had an ascending aorta diameter < 5.5 cm. The process is based on the application of a liquid film on the surface or object under sterilization (OUS). A beacon signal is used to self-steer the transmitted power from the designed retrodirective antenna array (RDA) towards the OUS using circularly polarized fields; then, the sterilization is completed by raising and maintaining the required temperature for a certain time. Results suggest that the process takes 5 minutes or less for an angular coverage range over 60 degrees whilst abiding by the relevant safety protocols. This paper also models the power incident onto the OUS, providing consistent results with full-wave simulations. A practical RDA system is developed using a 2 × 1 microstrip patch array operating at 2.5 GHz and tested through the positioning of a representative target surface. Measurements, developed by sampling the power transmitted by the heterodyne RDA, are reported for various distances and angles, operating in the near-field of the system. To further validate the methodology, an additional experiment investigating virus deactivation through microwave heating was also developed. This study aims to investigate the efficiency of Moringa oleifera seeds as a bio-flocculant for harvesting Tetradesmus dimorphus biomass. Four extracts from integral and residual (seeds without lipids) biomass of M. oleifera seeds using salt or aqueous solutions were used at four concentrations (100, 200, 300, and 400 ppm). Flocculation efficiency (FE) increased as the pH decreased. The addition of the extracts reduced the pH of the cultures, dispensing pH adjustment after dosing the flocculating agent. Salt extracts exhibited higher flocculation efficiency than aqueous extracts. The highest flocculation efficiency (~ 98%) was obtained using a salt extract of residual biomass of seeds in any concentration varying from 100 to 400 ppm. The predicted values obtained from a data modeling using response surface methodology approached the real values (r 2 = 0.9382), resulting in an adequate optimization of the flocculant concentration of ~ 335 ppm and pH 5.6 for a predicted FE of ~ 106%.
