Taenia hydatigena is a globally distributed canine tapeworm. The canine tapeworm results in economic impacts for farmers owing to organ condemnation. T. hydatigena utilizes dogs and other carnivores as definitive hosts while swine and ruminants serve as intermediate hosts. T. hydatigena is endemic in Vietnam; however, information on the prevalence and risk factors associated with infection is scarce. Dabrafenib This cross-sectional study aims to identify the prevalence of T. hydatigena taeniasis in dogs and T. hydatigena cysticercosis in pigs and cattle. The risk factors associated with taeniasis in dogs were identified using a fixed effects logistic regression model and quantified using population attributable fractions. The prevalence of T. hydatigena taeniasis in dogs and T. hydatigena cysticercosis in pigs and cattle was 10.31% (95% CI 8.21 to 12.84%), 7.60% (95% CI 6.34 to 9.08%), and 11.11% (95% CI 7.63 to 11.81%), respectively; these levels were lower than those reported in other regions of Vietnam. The population attributable fraction of risk factors associated with T. hydatigena taeniasis in dogs for dogs living in proximity of an abattoir, those having access to raw pork or beef viscera, and those living in multi-dog households were 80%, 19%, and 7%, respectively. This current study identified and quantified the risk factors for taeniasis in dogs thus advocating for targeted community intervention programs to break the lifecycle of T. hydatigena in Dak Lak province.Ultrasound (US) has been increasingly used as an important imaging tool to assess the urethra in children. The earliest reports of pediatric urethral sonography involved imaging the urethra in a non-voiding state, during physiological voiding of urine, and after instillation of saline. The introduction of US contrast agents has continued to improve visualization of urethral anatomy. Contrast-enhanced US of the urethra can be performed during the voiding phase of a standard contrast-enhanced voiding urosonography (ceVUS) exam or with retrograde instillation of a contrast agent, depending on the exam indication. Both techniques are well tolerated by children and provide accurate information about urethral pathology and periurethral soft tissues. This article reviews the technical aspects and imaging findings of urethral pathologies in children using contrast-enhanced US, both by the voiding and retrograde instillation techniques.
Surgery of tentorial dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVF) associated with large ectatic vein remains challenging dueto the intimate neurovascular relationships in the incisural space. Interruption of the arterialized vein requires a good knowledge of the regional anatomy and a precise preoperative evaluation.

We describe the key steps extreme lateral supracerebellar infratentorial (ELSI) approach for tentorial DAVF with a video illustration. The surgical anatomy is described along with the advantages and limitations of this approach.

In cases of tentorial DAVF where the foot of the arterialized vein is located in the infratentorial compartment, ELSI offers good surgical exposure and outcomes.

Numerous treatment breakthroughs for patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) have been demonstrated in clinical trials in the past 15years. However, real-world evidence on the changing epidemiology and longevity of this population has not been demonstrated. This study assessed prevalence trends for mCRPC over eightyears in a large managed care population.

In a claims database, adult male patients were included with ≥ 1 claim for prostate cancer, pharmacologic/surgical castration, and metastatic disease during the identification period. The index mCRPC date was the first metastatic claim; sixmonths of continuous enrollment before and after was required. Patients with metastatic disease at baseline were excluded. Patients were followed until death, end of study, or disenrollment, whichever was earliest. Total, mCRPC per-prostate cancer, and age-specific prevalence rates were calculated cross-sectionally for each year under study (2010-2017).

Of 343,089 patients identified witf androgen receptor-directed therapies and poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors in recent years, this trend will likely continue.
In critically ill children with acute kidney injury (AKI), continuous kidney replacement therapy (CKRT) enables nutrition provision. The magnitude of amino acid loss during continuous venovenous hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF) is unknown and needs accurate quantification. We investigated the mass removal and clearance of amino acids in pediatric CVVHDF.

This is a prospective observational cohort study of patients receiving CVVHDF from August 2014 to January 2016 in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) of a tertiary children's hospital.

Fifteen patients (40% male, median age 2.0 (IQR 0.7, 8.0) years) were enrolled. Median PICU and hospital lengths of stay were 20 (9, 59) and 36 (22, 132) days, respectively. Overall survival to discharge was 66.7%. Median daily protein prescription was 2.00 (1.25, 2.80) g/kg/day. Median daily amino acid mass removal was 299.0 (174.9, 452.0) mg/kg body weight, and median daily amino acid mass clearance was 18.2 (13.5, 27.9) ml/min/m
, resulting in a median 14.6 (8.3, 26.7) % protein loss. The rate of amino acid loss increased with increasing dialysis dose and blood flow rate.

CVVHDF prescription and related amino acid loss impact nutrition provision, with 14.6% of the prescribed protein removed. Current recommendations for protein provision for children requiring CVVHDF should be adjusted to compensate for circuit-related loss. A higher resolution version of the Graphical abstract is available as Supplementary information.

Autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD) is a rare severe hepatorenal disease. Survivors of pulmonary hypoplasia and patients with milder presentations often achieve long-term survival but frequently require kidney and/or liver transplantation.

To examine the use of clinical, surrogate and patient-centered outcomes in studies on ARPKD with special attention to core outcomes of the Standardized Outcomes in NephroloGy project for children with chronic kidney disease (SONG-Kids).

A systematic MEDLINE literature search identified 367 ARPKD studies published since 1990; however, of these 134 were excluded because they did not report any clinical outcomes (e.g. only histopathological, genetic, protein structure or radiological markers), 19 studies because they only included prenatal patients and 138 because they were case reports with ≤ 3 patients.

Seventy-six eligible studies were examined for study type, size, intervention, and reported outcomes by organ system and type, including all SONG-kint-centered outcomes are distinctly lacking and require more attention in future trials. A higher resolution version of the Graphical abstract is available as Supplementary information.
Studies that reported clinical outcomes in ARPKD usually covered the core outcome domains of kidney function, infections, and survival, but measures of life participation and patient-centered outcomes are distinctly lacking and require more attention in future trials. A higher resolution version of the Graphical abstract is available as Supplementary information.
Acute kidney injury (AKI) that improves in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) is associated with better outcomes compared to AKI that persists, but no study has investigated whether this also occurs in children undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB).

A retrospective study of children ≤18 years who underwent CPB in three children's hospitals was conducted. Patients were classified into groups by kidney recovery after AKI according to Acute Disease Quality Initiative (ADQI) guidelines. Adjusted regression models evaluated associations between kidney recovery group and hospital outcomes.

Among 3620 children, AKI developed in 701 (19.4%) 610 transient AKI, 47 persistent AKI, and 44 acute kidney disease (AKD). Mortality increased with severity of kidney recovery group 4.5% in the never developed AKI group, 8.9% in the transient AKI group, 25.5% in the persistent AKI group, and 31.8% in the AKD group (p <0.0001). In adjusted analysis, transient AKI (HR 1.4, CI 1.02, 2), persistent AKI (HR 22.4, CI 1entary information.Glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK3β) is considered an important element of glycogen metabolism; however, it has many other regulatory roles. Changes in the GSK3β signaling mechanism have been associated with various disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease (AD), type II diabetes, and cancer. Although the effects of GSK3β inhibitors on reducing the pathological effects of AD have been described, an effective inhibitor has not yet been developed. Epibrassinolide (EBR), a brassinosteroid (BR), is structurally similar to mammalian steroid hormones. Our studies have shown that EBR has an inhibitory effect on GSK3β in different cell lines. Roscovitine (ROSC), a cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) inhibitor, has also been identified as a potential GSK3 inhibitor. Within the scope of this study, we propose that EBR and/or ROSC might have mechanistic action in AD models. To test this hypothesis, we used in vitro models and Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) AD strains. Finally, EBR treatment successfully protected cells from apoptosis and increased the inhibitory phosphorylation of GSK3β. In addition, EBR and/or ROSC treatment had a positive effect on the survival rates of C. elegans strains. More interestingly, the paralysis phenotype of the C. elegans AD model due to Aβ42 toxicity was prevented by EBR and/or ROSC. Our findings suggest that EBR and ROSC administration have neuroprotective effects on both in vitro and C. elegans models via inhibitory GSK3β phosphorylation at Ser9.Functional hyperemia is fundamental to provide enhanced oxygen delivery during exercise in skeletal muscle. Different mechanisms are suggested to contribute, mediators from skeletal muscle, transmitter spillover from the neuromuscular synapse as well as endothelium-related dilators. We hypothesized that redundant mechanisms that invoke adenosine, endothelial autacoids, and KATP channels mediate the dilation of intramuscular arterioles in mice. Arterioles (maximal diameter 20-42 µm, n = 65) were studied in the cremaster by intravital microscopy during electrical stimulation of the motor nerve to induce twitch or tetanic skeletal muscle contractions (10 or 100 Hz). Stimulation for 1-60 s dilated arterioles rapidly up to 65% of dilator capacity. Blockade of nicotinergic receptors blocked muscle contraction and arteriolar dilation. Exclusive blockade of adenosine receptors (1,3-dipropyl-8-(p-sulfophenyl)xanthine) or of NO and prostaglandins (nitro-L-arginine and indomethacin, LN + Indo) exerted only a minor attenuation.
