Canine astrovirus (CaAstV), as an enteric pathogen, has been widely detected worldwide, but little is known about their genetic diversity and evolution, partly owing to a lack of genomic data. Here, we sequenced 12 nearly full-length CaAstV genomes to address the gap in knowledge. We found 14 (13.2%) and 7 (3.35%) CaAstV-positive samples from pet dogs with and without diarrhoea, respectively. Co-infections were with co-infection with Torque teno canis virus (TTCaV) reported for the first time. Phylogenetic analysis of the ORF2 gene revealed four major lineages. In particular, lineage 4 might have evolved from a recombinant virus from lineage 2 and lineage 3. The strains sequenced here clustered with lineages 2, 3 and 4 in contrast with other Chinese strains identified previously that clustered with lineages 2 and 4. Amino acid sequence alignment within lineage revealed intralineage amino acid diversity and that the type of epidemic strains within lineages changes over time. Three amino acids substitutions located in predicted B-cell epitopes, which might be involved escape of host immunity. Moreover, frequent inter-clade ORF2 gene recombinants were identified. The identification of individual recombination events and a recombinant lineage indicated that recombination plays a crucial role in CaAstV genetic evolution and diversity by generating divergent viruses. Moreover, phylogenetic analysis of ORF1b, the most conserved gene of astrovirus, revealed a close relationship between CaAstV and California sea lion astroviruses. However, little progress has been made in regulating the size of Cu nanoclusters at the atomic level. Herein, the size-gradient Cu catalysts from single atoms (SAs) to subnanometric clusters (SCs, 0.5-1 nm) to nanoclusters (NCs, 1-1.5 nm) on graphdiyne matrix are readily prepared via an acetylenic-bond-directed site-trapping approach. Electrocatalytic measurements show a significant size effect in both the activity and selectivity toward CO2 /CORR. Increasing the size of Cu nanoclusters will improve catalytic activity and selectivity toward C2+ productions in CORR. A high C2+ conversion rate of 312 mA cm-2 with the Faradaic efficiency of 91.2 % are achieved at -1.0 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) over Cu NCs. The generality of the approach was illustrated using CoII and NiII salts that resulted in color-to-color transitions. DMSO gels of these systems, exhibited reversible opaque-transparency switching. More importantly, optically readable multi-state volatile memory with temperature as a precision input has been demonstrated. The stored data is volatile and is lost instantaneously upon withdrawal or change of temperature. Simultaneous read-out at multiple wavelengths results in single-input/multi-output sequential logic operations such as data accumulators (counters) leading to volatile memory states. The present system provides access to thermoresponsive materials wherein temperature can be used as a precision stimulus.

A pharmacokinetic study included 28 porcine coronary arterial segments initially injured with balloon angioplasty followed by the local delivery of everolimus encapsulated in nanospheres (EEN) via injection through a microporous delivery catheter. The study showed high-everolimus concentrations in arterial tissue early after nanoparticles delivery followed by its gradual decrease to 1.15 ± 0.40 ng/mg at 90 days. Histology analysis showed favorable biocompatibility and healing profile with comparable area stenosis between groups at both time-points.

The present study demonstrates for the first time the safety, biocompatibility, and long-term retention of everolimus in arterial tissue after single local delivery of biodegradable nanospheres.Synovial fluid is dynamic in vivo with biological components changing in ratio and size depending on the health of the joint space, making it difficult to model in vitro. Previous efforts to develop synthetic synovial fluid have typically focused on single organic-tribological interactions with implant surfaces, thus ignoring interplay between multiple solution components. link2 Using a Taguchi orthogonal array, we were able to isolate the individual effects of five independent synovial fluid composition variables ratios of (1) hyaluronic acid to phospholipids (HAPL) and (2) albumin to globulin (AG), and concentrations of (3) hydrogen peroxide (H2 O2 ), (4) cobalt (Co2+ ) and (5) chromium (Cr3+ ) ions on macrophage viability and reduced glutathione production, local solution pH and the comprehensive CoCrMo alloy electrochemical response. While no single synovial fluid variable significantly affected the collective response, HAPL ratio resulted in the largest impact factor (Δ) on 12 of the 13 measured responses with significant effects (p less then .05) on the average macrophage survival rate and electrochemical capacitive state of the CoCrMo surface. Cluster analysis separated significant responses from all trials into three groups, corresponding to healthy, mild, or severely inflamed fluids, respectively; with the healthy synovial fluid composition having mid-range HAPL ratios with no Co2+ ions, and the severely inflamed fluids consisting of low and high HAPL ratios with H2 O2 and Co2+ ions. link3 By utilizing the Taguchi approach in combination with cluster analysis, we were able to advance our knowledge of complex multivariate synthetic synovial fluids influence on macrophage and electrochemical behavior at the cell-solution-metal interface.
To assess hybrid positron emission tomography (PET) imaging in the initial staging and outcome prediction of sinonasal malignancies.
Retrospective study on patients with sinonasal malignancies undergoing hybrid PET imaging for initial staging.
Complete remission (CR) was achieved in 45 of 65 patients (69.2%). Overall sensitivity for detection of primaries using 18F-fluoro-deoxy-d-glucose PET (FDG-PET) was 95.4%, for lymph node metastases 100% and distant metastases (DM) 100%. On univariate analysis, PET parameter total lesion glycolysis (TLG) was associated with achieving CR after primary treatment (176.8 ± 157.2 vs 83.7 ± 110.8, P = .03). Multivariate logistic regression demonstrated that TLG adjusted for the T classification best predicted achievement of CR.

The SCORTEN score is a specific predictor of mortality for patients with Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS)/toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN). There is little evidence in support of the common immunomodulating therapies for SJS/TEN.
To systematically assess the effectiveness of several therapies for SJS/TEN through the SCORTEN score.
Databases were searched for original studies on the use of SCORTEN. Six meta-analyses were carried out on patients with SJS/TEN who received supportive care only or in combination with immunomodulating drugs corticosteroids, cyclosporine, etanercept, immunoglobulins or a combination of corticosteroids with immunoglobulins. A multivariate meta-regression and a network meta-analysis were also performed.
Of 3893 studies identified, fifty-two involving 2466 patients with SJS/TEN were preselected. Data from thirty-eight of these studies (1827 patients) were finally pooled, and results [log(SMR)] from meta-analyses were as follows -0.13 (95% CI, -0.42,0.16) for corticosteroids, -0.39 (95% CI, -0.87,0.09) for immunoglobulins, 0.13 (95% CI, -0.15,0.40) for supportive treatment, -0.88 (95% CI, -1.47, -0.29) for cyclosporine, -0.95 (95% CI, -1.82, -0.07) for etanercept and-0.56 (95% CI, -0.94, -0.19) for immunoglobulins plus corticosteroids. The meta-regression analysis confirmed that cyclosporine and immunoglobulins plus corticosteroids were associated with less deaths than predicted by SCORTEN. In the network meta-analysis, no treatment achieved a significant reduction in the SMR.
