the expression of AOX1d and the synthesis of the AOX protein, as well as by Mn-SOD activation. However, these were insufficient to maintain the background level of embryonic lethal mutations, and thereby the reproductive capacity. These results highlight the importance of AOX in the successful adaptation of plants to acute γ-irradiation, and indicate that AOX1a plays a key role in the regulation of the stress response.
Despite the numerous literature results about biological effects of electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure, the interaction mechanisms of these fields with organisms are still a matter of debate. Extremely low frequency (ELF) MFs can modulate redox homeostasis and we showed that 24 h exposure to 50 Hz-1 mT has a pro-oxidant effect and effects on the epigenome of SH-SY5Y cells, decreasing miR-34b/c expression through the hypermethylation of their promoter.

Here, we investigated the role of the electromagnetic deposited energy density (ED) during exposures lasting 24 h to 1 mT amplitude MFs at a frequency of 50 Hz in inducing the above mentioned effects. To this end, we delivered ultrashort electric pulses, in the range of microsecond and nanosecond duration, with the same ED of the previously performed magnetic exposure to SH-SY5Y cells. Furthermore, we explored the effect of higher deposited energy densities. Analysis of i) gene and microRNA expression, ii) cell morphology, iii) reactive oxygen species (ROS of electric stimulation (never investigated until now) can cause transcriptional changes, also reveal the safety of the electroporating pulses used in biomedical applications and open up the possibility to further therapeutic applications of this technology.Cypermethrin (CMN) is a widely used artificial synthetic pesticide that causes neurotoxicity in the hippocampus. However, the underlying toxicological targets and mechanisms remain unclear. Panobinostat In this study, network pharmacology analysis and in vitro models were integrated to investigate the effect and mechanism of CMN-induced hippocampal neurotoxicity. A total of 88 targets of CMN-induced hippocampal neurotoxicity were predicted. Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment (KEGG) analyses suggested that these targets were related to multiple GO terms and signaling pathways. To further investigate underlying mechanism, the top 10 hub targets (Akt1, Tnf, Ptgs2, Casp3, Igf1, Sirt1, Jun, Cat, Il10, and Bcl2l1) were screened. Furthermore, cell viability and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) assays demonstrated that CMN was toxic to HT22 cells in a time- and dose-dependent manner. Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) staining revealed that treatment with CMN increased the proportion of apoptotic cells. In addition, the real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) results indicated that CMN altered the mRNA expression levels of most of the hub targets, with the exceptions of Igf1 and Jun. The results demonstrated that multiple targets and signaling pathways were involved in CMN-induced hippocampal neurotoxicity. These findings provided reference values for subsequent studies of the toxicological mechanism of CMN.
Measles is a highly-contagious, serious diseases that can lead to potentially fatal illness, disability and death . We conducted an investigation to calculate the economic burden of measles cases from 2018 to 2019 and to analyze factors that influenced the total costs of measles cases in Fujian Province, China.

We investigated confirmed cases of measles by telephone interview, from 2018 to 2019, including demographic characteristics, therapeutic measures, self-treatment and nutritional supplement expenditure, transportation fees, and lost wages. Medical expenses in the hospitals were obtained from the hospital service charge system.

A total of 131 measles cases were investigated, the average direct cost, indirect cost, and total cost were $518, $284, and $802, respectively. The total cost was 15.5% of Annual Per Capita Disposable Income of Households ($5 162) in Fujian. Hospitalization (
=98.6, 95%
21.1~460.6) and complication (
=8.7, 95%
1.3~58.0) significantly influenced the total cost according to binary logistic regression, and an outbreak of measles may pose a significant threat to household finances in a short term.

The economic burden of measles was high when compared with Annual Per Capita Disposable Income of Households. The resurgence of measles and measles outbreaks increased economic burden of household finances.

Although COVID-19 vaccines go through rigorous clinical trials before they are injected to the general population, certain unexpected side effects remain inevitable. We herein describe a case of a 42-year-old woman who experienced acute demyelination 10 days after the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccination. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of such nature and severity described regarding COVID-19 vaccines' side effects.A quadrivalent high-dose inactivated influenza vaccine (IIV4-HD) is licensed for adults ≥65 y of age based on immunogenicity and efficacy studies. However, IIV4-HD has not been evaluated in adults aged 60-64 y. This study compared immunogenicity and safety of IIV4-HD with a standard-dose quadrivalent influenza vaccine (IIV4-SD) in adults aged ≥60 y. This Phase III, randomized, modified double-blind, active-controlled study enrolled 1,528 participants aged ≥60 y, randomized 11 to a single injection of IIV4-HD or IIV4-SD. Hemagglutination inhibition (HAI) geometric mean titers (GMTs) were measured at baseline and D 28 and seroconversion assessed. Safety was described for 180 d after vaccination. The primary immunogenicity objective was superiority of IIV4-HD versus IIV4-SD, for all four influenza strains 28 d post vaccination in participants aged 60-64 and ≥65 y. IIV4-HD induced a superior immune response versus IIV4-SD in terms of GMTs in participants aged 60-64 y and those aged ≥65 y for all four influenza strains. IIV4-HD induced higher GMTs in those aged 60-64 y than those aged ≥65 y. Seroconversion rates were higher for IIV4-HD versus IIV4-SD in each age-group for all influenza strains. Both vaccines were well tolerated in participants ≥60 y of age, with no safety concerns identified. More solicited reactions were reported with IIV4-HD than with IIV4-SD. IIV4-HD provided superior immunogenicity versus IIV4-SD and was well tolerated in adults aged ≥60 y. IIV4-HD is assumed to offer improved protection against influenza compared with IIV4-SD in adults aged ≥60 y, as was previously assessed for adults aged ≥65 y.Newspapers' reporting of adverse vaccine events may influence their readers vaccination behaviors. The purpose of this study was to examine the nature and extent of coverage of Johnson and Johnson (J & J) vaccine's adverse events reported in the online versions of the three most widely circulated US daily newspapers from April 13-25, 2021. Articles were identified in published online versions of the three most widely cited newspapers in the United States, using several databases. Dedoose software was used to apply a mixed methods approach to the 110 articles identified. The seven overarching themes were as follows (1) J & J vaccine characteristics (n = 78); (2) Description of the adverse events (n = 183); (3) Emphasis that it is a rare event and vaccine is still safe (n = 89); (4) Health authorities' investigation (n = 55); (5) Pause in administering J & J vaccine (n = 83); (6) Vaccine fear and anxiety and increased hesitancy (n = 58); (7) J & J role and impact (n = 108). Each theme included a series of subthemes. Overall, the newspaper coverage was aligned with handling of the pause from authoritative health agencies in the US. The findings of this study help to better understand how the US media covered adverse events related to the J & J vaccine, and provides insight for public health professionals regarding acceptance COVID-19 vaccines. Monitoring media coverage related to vaccine adverse events may help public health officials to develop new approaches to adequately inform the public, prevent misinformation, and maintain the optimal vaccination uptake.Human asthma is caused by interactions between a range of genetic and environmental factors. However, the specific pathogenesis of asthma remains controversial. This study explored the contribution of DNA methylation to asthma using computer learning methods. Relevant datasets and information related to patients with asthma were collected from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. A multivariate linear regression model was established. Differentially expressed genes and DNA methylation sites were identified. The results showed that the expression of 169 genes was significantly different between the two groups. Through differential analysis of methylation and differential analysis of gene expression, 44 differentially expressed genes that may be affected by DNA methylation modification were identified. The results of the multiple linear regression model showed that DNA methylation could explain 9.81% of the variation in gene expression. Gene ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analyses showed that the differentially expressed genes, HLA-DMB, IL4, HLA-DPB1, and CD40LG, were related to the occurrence of asthma, and HLA-DMB expression was significantly reduced in allergic asthma. There was a positive correlation between cg04933135 and HLA-DMB expression, and cg04933135 was a differential site for DNA methylation. Using blood samples from asthma patients, we confirmed that HLA-DMB expression is down-regulated, which may be affected by abnormal DNA methylation. DNA methylation plays an important role in the development of asthma, and HLA-DMB which modified by abnormal DNA methylation can be regarded as a new biomarker of asthma.Despite the challenges faced by sexual orientation minority (SOM) individuals, many SOM individuals are able to persist and develop resiliency over the course of their lives. The present study explored how prominent SOM elders perceived the LGBTQ+ community as developing hope and resiliency in relation to major events of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ+) rights development. Using a basic qualitative approach, we analyzed interview data and three categories emerged. More specifically, these categories were (1) internalization of societal views; (2) fostering safety and acceptance by creating a sense of community; and (3) sources of inspiration for initiating change. The resulting categories show the complex interaction of social influences and resiliency during times of societal reformation. We discuss the implications of how group-based emotions and identity processes during times of societal reformation foster a life-long resilience.
