In this perspective, we highlight the advantages of flexibility of LMOFs for selective detection and sensing, and inclusion of toxic small molecules (solvents, anions, halobenzenes, aromatics, aromatic amines, nitro-explosives and acetylacetone). In addition, the principles and strategies guiding the design of these MOF based materials and recent progress in the luminescent detection of toxic small molecules are also discussed. In this perspective we limit our discussion on the 'non-lanthanide' based luminescent MOFs that have flexibility in the framework and show small molecule sensing applications.Acute gastroenteritis (AGE) is the highest cause of mortality worldwide in children under the age of 5 years, with the highest mortalities occurring in low-to-middle income countries. Treatment can involve use of unregulated herbal medication and antibiotics. A cross sectional study was carried out to investigate the use of antibiotics and traditional herbal medications in the management of AGE among Yòrùbá-speaking communities in Kwara State, Nigeria. Our findings suggest habitual use of antibiotics (54.6%) and herbal medication (42.5%) in the management of AGE with high levels of self-prescription of antibiotics (21.7%) and herbal medications (36.2%) within the community. Ethanolic extracts of selected herbal plants reported (i.e. Aristolochia ringens, Azadirachta indica, Chromolaena odorata, Etanda Africana, Ficus capensis, Ficus vogelii, Mangifera indica, Momordica charantia, Ocimum gratisimum, Senna alata, Sorghum bicolor and Vernonia amygdalina) were investigated for antibacterial properties, using bacteria known to be causative agents of AGE. Our findings showed that, with exception of Ficus vogelii, which enhanced bacterial growth, the plant extracts reported all showed some antibacterial activity. We further discuss our findings within a regulatory context, with the aim to guide the use of traditional and herbal medication in low-to medium income countries (LMICs) and reduce the potential risks associated with the development of antimicrobial resistance.Objetivo Comparar las creencias de enfermedad y las creencias de medicación con la adherencia al tratamiento en pacientes con hipertensión arterial. selleck products Método Diseño transversal comparativo en población hipertensa sin diabetes mellitus, grupo de 137 pacientes adherentes y grupo de 129 pacientes no adherentes. Resultados En el grupo de pacientes adherentes, el 71.5% tienen creencias adecuadas de la enfermedad, y en el grupo de pacientes no adherentes el 43.4% también tienen creencias adecuadas de la enfermedad (p = 0.000). Cuando se agrupan las creencias de la enfermedad y las creencias sobre la medicación existe una asociación con la adherencia al tratamiento en los pacientes hipertensos. Conclusiones Existe asociación entre las creencias de la enfermedad y las creencias de la medicación con la adherencia al tratamiento antihipertensivo.
Compared with the placebo, biologics are beneficial in reducing nasal polyp mass and safe in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP). However, there lacks a head-to-head randomized trial comparing biologics. We aimed to determine the best biologic for CRSwNP.
We performed a systematic review and network meta-analysis (NMA), which was registered with PROSPERO (No. CRD42021226766). A comprehensive search was performed in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library on December 29, 2020. Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing biologics in adult patients for CRSwNP were included.
Nine RCTs with 1,190 patients comparing 3 different biologics (dupilumab, omalizumab, and mepolizumab) and the placebo were included. Dupilumab had the best efficacy in terms of nasal polyp score (NPS), Sino-Nasal Outcome Test-22 (SNOT-22) score, University of Pennsylvania Smell Identification Test (UPSIT) score, and nasal congestion score (NCS) for surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) values of 0.900, 0.916, 1.000, and 0.807, respectively. Omalizumab ranked second in efficacy in terms of SNOT-22, UPSIT, and NCS for SUCRA values of 0.606, 0.500, and 0.693, respectively. Mepolizumab ranked second in efficacy in terms of NPS for SUCRA values of 0.563 and had the highest risk of adverse events (AEs) for SUCRA values of 0.746.

Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is a common autoimmune disease in the peripheral nervous system. This study aimed to elucidate the role of IL-27 gene polymorphisms in elderly people with GBS.
A total of 395 healthy subjects and 422 GBS patients with an average age of 63 years old were included in this study. Peripheral blood samples were collected. link2 The 2 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of IL-27, namely, rs153109 and rs785575, of GBS patients were analyzed using the PCR method and compared with those of the healthy controls. The correlations of IL-27 SNPs with disease severity, disease outcome, level of anti-GM1 antibodies, and Campylobacter jejuni infection were assessed. Serum levels of IL-27 of healthy subjects and GBS patients were analyzed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.
No significant differences in the frequencies of rs785575 SNPs between GBS and healthy subjects were observed. In analyzing rs153109 SNPs, the G allele was found to be more prevalent in the GBS patients (p = 0.012). More alleles show GG genotype in GBS patients (p = 0.023). The -964A>G allele has a higher prevalence in severely affected and anti-GM1-Ab-positive GBS patients. GBS patients with the rs153109 SNP showed a poor clinical outcome than those without rs153109 SNP (p = 0.012). GBS patients showed higher serum IL-27 levels than healthy subjects (p < 0.001). The levels of IL-27 were also higher in GBS patients with genotypes of AG and GG, and those with GG genotypes showed the highest IL-27 levels.
The rs153109 SNP is more prevalent in GBS patients with the GG and G allele and is associated with severer GBS, poorer clinical outcomes, and higher IL-27 levels.

We propose a neural network for fast prediction of realistic, time-parametrized deformations between pairs of input segmentations. The proposed method was used to generate a library of planning CTVs for cervical cancer radiotherapy.Methods.A 3D convolutional neural network (CNN) was introduced to predict a stationary velocity field given the distance maps of the cervix CTV in empty and full bladder anatomy. Diffeomorphic deformation trajectories between the two states were obtained by time integration. Intermediate deformation states were used to populate a library of cervix CTVs. The network was trained on cervix CTV deformations of 20 patients generated by finite element modeling (FEM). Validation was performed on FEM data of 9 healthy volunteers. Additionally, for these subjects, CTV deformations were observed in a series of repeat MR scans as the bladder filled from empty to full. Predicted and FEM libraries were compared, and benchmarked against the observed deformations. Finally, for an independent test set of 20 patients the predicted libraries were evaluated clinically, and compared to the current method.Results.The median Dice score over the validation subjects between the predicted and FEM libraries was >0.95 throughout the deformation, with a median 90 percentile surface distance of less then 3 mm. The ability to cover observed CTVs was similar for both the FEM-based and the proposed method, with residual offsets being about twice as large as the difference between the two methods. Clinical evaluation showed improved library properties over the method currently used in clinic.Conclusions.We proposed a CNN trained on FEM deformations, which predicts the deformation trajectory between two input states of the cervix CTV in one forward pass. We applied this to CTV library prediction for cervical cancer. The network is able to mimic FEM deformations well, while being much faster and simpler in use.
Dual-ended readout depth-encoding detectors based on bismuth germanate (BGO) scintillation crystal arrays are good candidates for high-sensitivity small animal positron emission tomography used for very-low-dose imaging. In this paper, the performance of three dual-ended readout detectors based on 15×15 BGO arrays with three different reflector arrangements and 8×8 silicon photomultiplier arrays were evaluated and compared.
The three BGO arrays, denoted wo-ILG (without internal light guide), wp-ILG (with partial internal light guide), and wf-ILG (with full internal light guide), share a pitch size of 1.6 mm and thickness of 20 mm. Toray E60 with a thickness of 50
m was used as inter-crystal reflector. All reflector lengths in the wo-ILG and wf-ILG BGO arrays were 20 and 18 mm, respectively; the reflectors in the wp-ILG BGO array were 18 mm at the central region of the array and 20 mm at the edge. By using 18 mm reflectors, part of the crystals in the wp-ILG and wf-ILG BGO arrays worked as internal light , and 5.0 ± 0.6 ns, respectively. The DOI resolution (FWHM value) were 3.0 ± 0.2 mm, 2.9 ± 0.2 mm, and 3.0 ± 0.2 mm, respectively. Over all, the wo-ILG detector provided the best performance.We investigate, numerically, the effects of externally imposed material flows on the structure and temporal evolution of liquid crystal skyrmions. The dynamics of a 2D system of skyrmions is modeled using the Ericksen-Leslie theory, which is based on two coupled equations, one for material flow and the other for the director field. link3 As the time scales of the velocity and director fields differ by several orders of magnitude for realistic values of the system parameters, we have simplified the calculations by assuming that the velocity relaxes instantaneously when compared to the relaxation of the director field. Thus, we have used a finite-differences method known as artificial compressibility with adaptive time step to solve the velocity field and a fourth-order Runge-Kutta method for the director field. We characterized the skyrmion shape or configuration as a function of the time and the average velocity of the flow field. We found that for velocities above a certain threshold, the skyrmions stretch in the direction perpendicular to the flow, by contrast to the regime of weak flows where the skyrmions stretch along the streamlines of the flow field. These two regimes are separated by an abrupt (first-order) dynamical transition, which is robust with respect to e.g., the liquid crystal elastic anisotropy. Additionally, we have found how the presence of a second skyrmion affects the evolution of the shape of the skyrmions, by comparing the evolution of pairs of skyrmions to the evolution of a single-skyrmion.
