All rights reserved.INTRODUCTION Speech recognition technology (SRT) recognizes an individuals spoken word signals through a microphone, and subsequently processes the user's words into digital text by means of a computer. SRT remains well established and continues to grow in popularity among the various health disciplines. Many studies have been done to examine the effects of SRT on nursing documentation, however, no previous systematic review (SR) on the effects of SRT on accuracy and efficiency of nursing documentation was identified. AIMS AND METHODS To systematically review the impact of speech recognition technology on the accuracy and efficiency of clinical nursing documentation. A SR was conducted that measures the accuracy and efficiency (time to complete documentation) of SRT on nursing documentation. An extensive search of the literature included; Web of Science, CINAHL via EBSCO host, Cochrane Library, Embase, MEDLINE, Google Scholar. The PRISMA checklist screened eligible papers. All rights reserved.BACKGROUND A putative relationship between preterm birth and developmental defects of enamel (DDE) has been described in the literature. Although systematic reviews have found preterm birth may lead to DDE, the effect size has not been quantified. AIM The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to determine the association between preterm birth and DDE. DESIGN An electronic search was performed in Pubmed, Cochrane Library, Scopus and Web of Science to identify relevant studies. Two independent reviewers selected the studies in a two-stage process in accordance with the PRISMA statement. The risk of bias was also analysed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale criteria. RESULTS A total of 1041 publications were considered after an electronic search, 20 of which were included in the systematic review. Of these 20 publications,18 articles were included in a meta-analysis. The meta-analysis detected an increased risk of developing DDE in preterm children [OR 3.27 (95% CI 2.02, 5.30; p less then 0.001)], with a greater risk in the primary dentition. In addition to this, a subgroup analysis showed a greater risk in the development of hypoplasia in preterm children. CONCLUSIONS The results of this meta-analysis showed a three times increased risk of developing DDE in preterm children. This article is protected by copyright. More sophisticated analytical approaches are needed to characterize these products and enable manufacturers and regulators to better determine potency. OBJECTIVE To expand the multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) assay for an in-depth characterization of German cockroach (GCr; Blattella germanica) allergen extracts. METHODS We applied advanced liquid chromatography (LC) and mass spectrometry (MS) techniques including MRM. The expanded LC/MRM MS method was optimized to measure known GCr allergens and their isoforms/variants in commercial extracts and environmental samples. We performed isoform-specific allergen measurements in multiple extracts from four commercial sources and extracts prepared using environmental samples from urban homes. AIM To evaluate the consequences in children's speech and arch integrity following premature loss of primary anterior teeth compared to those without premature losses. DESIGN Electronic searches were performed based on the PECO criteria. Observational studies in children (P) who suffered premature loss or extraction of primary anterior teeth (E) compared to children presenting normal occlusion development (C) and the consequences to speech and dental arch perimeter (O) were included. Risk of bias and data extraction were performed. The meta-analysis evaluated the influence of premature loss of primary anterior teeth in articulatory speech disorders (distortion, omission and substitution) and space loss in the dental arches. Random and fixed effect models were used, and heterogeneity was tested. The certainty of evidence was estimated using the GRADE approaNCLUSIONS Premature loss of primary anterior teeth may affect children phonation causing speech distortion. Consequences of space loss to deciduous dental arch still need to be further studied. BACKGROUND Emotion regulation is a key source of stress for early career and student nurses. Clinical placement experiences can elicit strong emotions in nursing students; however, they may be unprepared for the challenge of regulating their emotions in real-world practice. How nursing students learn to manage their emotions in the clinical setting, whether they receive support for this, and how they are socialised to manage their emotions during placements are not well known. DESIGN An exploratory qualitative study. METHODS Semi-structured interviews (n = 19) were conducted with first-year nursing students, exploring their experiences of emotion management during clinical placement. Mangrove rivulus is a small killifish that reproduces predominantly by self-fertilization, producing highly homozygous lines throughout its geographic range. The Bahamas and Caribbean are inhabited by two highly diverged phylogeographic lineages of mangrove rivulus, Kryptolebias marmoratus and a "Central clade" closely related to K. hermaphroditus from Brazil. The two lineages are largely allopatric, but recently were found in syntopy on San Salvador, Bahamas, where a single hybrid was reported. To better characterize the degree of hybridization and the possibility of secondary introgression, here we conducted a detailed genetic analysis of the contact zone on San Salvador. Two mixed populations were identified, one of which contained sexually mature hybrids. The distribution of heterozygosity at diagnostic microsatellite loci in hybrids showed that one of these hybrids was an immediate offspring from the K. marmoratus x Central clade cross, whereas the remaining five hybrids were products of reproduction by self-fertilization for 1-3 generations following the initial cross. Two hybrids had mitochondrial haplotypes of K. marmoratus and the remaining four hybrids had a haplotype of the Central clade, indicating that crosses go in both directions. In hybrids, alleles of parental lineages were represented in equal proportions suggesting lack of recent backcrossing to either of the parental lineages. However, sympatric populations of two lineages were less diverged than allopatric populations, consistent with introgression. Results are discussed in terms of applicability of the biological species concept for isogenic, effectively clonal, organisms. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.AIMS AND OBJECTIVES Our aim was to examine the notes produced by nurses, paying specific attention to the style in which these notes are written and observing whether there are concerns of distortions and biases. BACKGROUND Clinicians are responsible to document and record accurately. However, nurses' attitudes towards their patients can influence the quality of care they provide their patients and this inevitably impacts their perceptions and judgments, with implications to patients' care, treatment, and recovery. Negative attitudes or bias can cascade to other care providers and professionals. DESIGN This study used a retrospective chart review design and qualitative exploration of documentation using an emergent theme analysis. METHODS We examined the notes taken by 55 mental health nurses working with inpatients in the forensic services department at a psychiatric hospital. The study complies with the SRQR Checklist published in 2014. RESULTS The results highlight some evidence of nurses' empathic responses to patients, but suggest that most nurses have a style of writing that much of the time includes themes that are negative in nature to discount, pathologize, or paternalize their patients.
