Coriandrum sativum L. (coriander), which is an annual herb of the Apiaceae family, has been traditionally used as a remedy. Here we tested whether heated extract of coriander leaf protects nigral dopaminergic neurodegeneration after exposure to 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA). After injection of 6-OHDA into the rat substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc), dopaminergic degeneration, which was determined by tyrosine hydroxylase immunostaining, was rescued by co-injection of CaEDTA, an extracellular Zn2+ chelator, suggesting that extracellular Zn2+ influx is involved in neurodegeneration. Both intracellular Zn2+ dysregulation determined by ZnAF-2 fluorescence and dopaminergic degeneration in the SNpc induced by 6-OHDA were rescued by co-injection of 0.25% coriander extract, which also reduced reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in the SNpc determined by aminophenyl fluorescein fluorescence. The present study suggests that coriander leaf extract protects nigral dopaminergic neurodegeneration induced by intracellular Zn2+ dysregulation. It is likely that the nutraceutical property of coriander leaf extract contributes to the protection via reducing ROS production.
Individuals with substance use disorders (SUD), particularly opioid use disorder (OUD), who are criminal justice-involved are a particularly vulnerable population that has been adversely affected by COVID-19 due to impacts of the pandemic on both the criminal justice and treatment systems. The manuscript presents qualitative data and findings exploring issues related to SUD/OUD treatment among individuals involved in the justice system and the impacts of COVID-19 on these service systems. Qualitative data were collected separately by teams from three different research hubs/sites in Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky; at each hub, data were collected from justice system personnel (n = 17) and community-level SUD/OUD providers (n = 21). Codes from two hubs were reviewed and merged to develop the cross-hub coding list. The combined codes were used deductively to analyze the third hub's data, and higher-level themes were then developed across allthe hubs' data.

Themes reflectedthe justice and treatment systems' responses to COVID-19, the intersection of systems and COVID-19's impact on providing OUD treatment for such individuals, and the use of telehealth and telejustice.

Results highlight that despite rapid adaptations made by systems during the pandemic, additional work is needed to better support individuals with OUD who are involved in the justice system. Such work can inform longer-term public health crisis planning to improve community OUD treatment access and linkage for those who are criminal justice-involved.

The study aims to assess cognitive function in women newly diagnosed with non-metastatic thyroid cancer before any treatment and to identify factors associated with cognitive problems.

Korean women newly diagnosed with thyroid cancer awaiting initial surgical treatment (n = 130) completed neuropsychological tests and self-report questionnaires on symptom distress and psychological distress. Additionally, information on thyroid function was obtained through a medical chart audit. Descriptive statistics and multivariable regression analyses were performed to describe the incidence of cognitive problems and to identify possible predictors of neuropsychological performance.

Approximately 95% of women newly diagnosed with thyroid cancer had impaired neuropsychological test scores on one or more tests of attention and cognitive control. Further analyses found that 78% of women met both the Global Deficit Score and the International Cancer and Cognition Task Force criteria for impairment. Finally, regression any treatment. To identify predictors of CT findings and patient outcomes in a population of septic patients from a medical ICU.

A full-text search in the radiological information system (RIS) retrieved 227 body CT examinations conducted to identify infectious sources in 2018. CT reports were categorized according to identified foci and their diagnostic certainty. Diagnostic accuracy of CT was compared to microbiological results. Clinical and laboratory information was gathered. Statistical analysis was performed using nonparametric tests and logistic regression analysis.

CT revealed more positive infectious foci 52.4% (n = 191/227) than microbiological tests 39.3% (n = 79/201). There were no significant differences between focus-positive CT scans with regard to positive microbiological testing (p = 0.32). Sequential organ failure asse findings. Coronary calcium scores (CCSs) in cardiac-gated computed tomography (CCT) are diagnostic for coronary artery disease (CAD). This study aims to investigate if CCSs can foretell CAD-reporting and data system (CAD-RADS) without performing computed tomography angiography (CTA).

Profiles of 544 patients were studied who had gone through CCT and CTA; the number of calcified regions of interest (ROIs), the Agatston, area, volume, and mass CCSs were calculated. Among the CAD-RADS categories (1 to 5), the mean values were compared for each CCS separately. A cut-offfor each CCS was declared using ROC curve analysis, more than which could predict significant CAD (CAD-RADS 3 to 5). Also, logistic regression models indicated the most probable CAD-RADS category based on the CCSs. P < 0.05 was considered significant.

Among 53% male and 47% female participants with a mean (SD) age of 62.57 (0.84) years, numbers of calcified ROIs were significantly different between each pair of CAD-RADS categories. While other CCSs did not show a significant difference between CAD-RADS 1 and 2 or 2 and 3. The purpose of this multicenter retrospective study was to investigate the demographic characteristics and treatment outcomes of patients with mucosal malignant melanoma (MM) of the oral cavity.

This was a multicenter study involving 8 Japanese universities. The medical records of 69 patients who were diagnosed with primary oral MM between January 2000 and December 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. Overall survival (OS) and prognostic factors for OS were analyzed statistically.

There were 40 (58.0%) males and 29 (42.0%) females, and their mean (range) age was 69.8 ± 14.6 (22-96) years old. The most common primary site was the palate (30 patients, 43.5%). Stage IVA was the most common disease stage (36 patients, 52.2%). Radical therapy was performed in 55 patients (79.7%). The 2-year and 5-year OS rates of the 69 patients were 64.6% and 42.5%, respectively. The 2-year and 5-year OS rates of the stage III patients were 85.9% and 72.5%, respectively, and those of the stage IVA patients were 56.3% and 26.0%, respectively. The 1-year OS rate of the stage IVB/IVC patients was 26.7%. The 2-year and 5-year OS rates of the radical therapy group were 74.1% and 50.5%, respectively, whereas the 2-year OS rate of the non-radical therapy group was 26.0%. An advanced T classification was the only identified prognostic factor for OS (hazard ratio 6.312, 95% confidence interval 1.133-38.522, p < 0.05).

It is characterized by dry mouth, erythema, mucosal soreness, ulcers, and pain, and it may impact patient outcomes. Bovine colostrum and Aloe vera contain a wide variety of biologically active compounds that promote mucosal healing. A non-randomized phase II study was designed to assess the safety and efficacy of a combined bovine colostrum and Aloe vera oral care protocol to prevent and to treat severe oral mucositis in transplant patients. Two commercially available products were given to patients in addition to the standard protocol Remargin Colostrum OS® mouthwash and Remargin Colostrum Gastro-Gel® taken orally. Forty-six (78.0%) patients experienced oral mucositis, 40 (67.8%) developed mild-moderate forms, and 6 (10.2%) severe ones. Comparing the study group's outcomes with those of a homogeneous historical control group, severe oral mucositis decreased significantly (10.2% vs. 28.4%; P  less then  0.01), as did its duration (0.5 ± 1.9 vs. 1.5 ± 3.0 days; P  less then  0.01). Febrile neutropenia episodes (69.5% vs. 95.1%; P  less then  0.01) and duration (4.0 ± 4.7 vs. 6.2 ± 4.5 days; P  less then  0.01) also decreased. These findings show that the experimental protocol seems effective in preventing severe forms of oral mucositis. However, a randomized controlled trial is necessary to confirm this.To fill the knowledge gap about the functioning of the lake-river system subjected to restoration treatments, two tributaries, a shallow, restored lake and its outflow, were examined. The quality of water inflows, lake and outflow was compared before (BR), during sustainable (SR, deep water aeration, phosphorus inactivation and biomanipulation for 3 years) and limited lake restoration (LR, only aeration for 2 years).
