Objectives Previous studies investigated the physical, psychological and sociological effects of infertility; however, stigma and violence experiences of infertile women haven't yet been studied in the US. The objective of the study is to examine the perceived stress, stigma, violence experiences, and social support of US infertile women and to compare with fertile women in order to understand the effects of infertility on stress levels, violence exposures, and support.Methods The descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted with fertile and infertile women who use social media for an online support group. Protein Tyrosine Kinase inhibitor A convenience sample of 786 women completed an online survey.Results In the study, 41.6% of participants were fertile and 58.4% were infertile. We found infertile women experienced high levels of stigma and moderate stress. One in five infertile women has been exposed to emotional or physical violence. Compared to fertile women, infertile women had significantly higher perceived stress levels and were less likely to experience emotional or physical violence.Conclusion These findings highlight that infertile women have experienced stigma and high levels of stress in a developed country. They are also exposed to emotional or physical violence, but surprisingly infertile women are less likely to report violence than fertile women.BACKGROUND Struts have been considered as covered when tissue overlying the struts is >0 μm by optical coherence tomography (OCT). However, there is no confirmatory study to validate this definition by histology which is the gold standard. The aim of the present study was to assess the appropriate cutoff value of neointimal thickness of stent strut coverage by OCT with histology confirmation. METHODS We performed ex vivo OCT imaging of human coronary arteries with stents at autopsy. A total of 46 stents in 39 vessels from 25 patients were examined in this study, and a total of 165 cross-sectional images were co-registered with histology to determine the optimal cutoff value for strut coverage by OCT which was defined as luminal endothelial cells with 2 abluminal layers of smooth muscles cells and matrix. Considering the resolution of OCT is 10 to 20 μm, the cutoff values were assessed at ≥20, ≥40, and ≥60 μm. RESULTS A total of 2235 struts were reviewed by histology, 1216 were considered as well-matched struts which were analyzed in this study. By histology, 160 struts were identified as uncovered, while 1056 struts were covered. The OCT assessment without consideration of neointimal thickness yielded a poor specificity of 37.5% and sensitivity 100%. Of 3 cutoff values, the cutoff value of ≥40 μm yielded the best sensitivity (99.3%), specificity (91.0%), positive predictive value (98.6%), and negative predictive value (95.6%) as compared with ≥20 and ≥60 μm. CONCLUSIONS Neointimal thickness ≥40 μm by OCT yielded the most accurate cutoff value to identify stent strut coverage validated by histology.The retrograde approach has increased the success rate of chronic total occlusion percutaneous coronary intervention but has also been associated with a higher risk of complications. The retrograde approach is usually performed in complex lesions, in which the antegrade approach is not feasible or has failed previously. Using a systematic 10-step approach can maximize the likelihood of success and minimize the risks of retrograde chronic total occlusion interventions.AIM To evaluate compliance rate to pterygium postoperative treatment with two different protocols. METHODS Review of clinical data of patients submitted to pterygium excision and conjunctival autografting in a single centre (and a single surgeon) in Barcelona between March 2014 and December 2017. Initial postoperative protocol (protocol 1) consisted of 4 months of topical steroids in a tapering fashion. Protocol 2 consisted of topical steroids tapered over 5 weeks. Compliance rate, complications and clinical outcomes were evaluated, and statistical comparisons were made. RESULTS 120 surgeries were performed in 99 patients. Protocol 1 was applied in 63 cases and the next 57 followed protocol 2. Compliance with protocol 1 (57.6%) was lower than with protocol 2 (84.9%) (p = 0.002). Intraoperative complications (graft tear, corneal thinning, corneal perforation and bleeding) were found in 10 cases of protocol 1 and three cases of protocol 2, p = 0.08. link2 Postoperative complications (graft dislocation, graft haematoma, ocular hypertension and recurrence) were found in 31 cases of protocol 1 (46.2%) and eight cases of protocol 2 (14%), p = 0.001. Six weeks after surgery, ocular hypertension was detected in eight cases corresponding to protocol 1 (13.6%) and two cases of protocol 2 (3.8%), p = 0.099. Recurrence rate during first year was higher in protocol 1 (26.3%) compared to protocol 2 (7.6%), p = 0.011. No cases of visual acuity worsening or infection were registered. CONCLUSION Protocol 2 has shown to have higher compliance rate than protocol 1 and less postoperative complications, proving to be a safe and effective postoperative treatment after pterygium surgery.OBJECTIVE This systematic review focused on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with physicians and nurses that tested interventions designed to improve their mental health, well-being, physical health, and lifestyle behaviors. DATA SOURCE A systematic search of electronic databases from 2008 to May 2018 included PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, SPORTDiscus, and the Cochrane Library. STUDY INCLUSION AND EXCLUSION CRITERIA Inclusion criteria included an RCT design, samples of physicians and/or nurses, and publication year 2008 or later with outcomes targeting mental health, well-being/resiliency, healthy lifestyle behaviors, and/or physical health. Exclusion criteria included studies with a focus on burnout without measures of mood, resiliency, mindfulness, or stress; primary focus on an area other than health promotion; and non-English papers. DATA EXTRACTION Quantitative and qualitative data were extracted from each study by 2 independent researchers using a standardized template created in Covidence. DATA SYNTHESIS Although meta-analytic pooling across all studies was desired, a wide array of outcome measures made quantitative pooling unsuitable. Therefore, effect sizes were calculated and a mini meta-analysis was completed. RESULTS Twenty-nine studies (N = 2708 participants) met the inclusion criteria. Results indicated that mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral therapy-based interventions are effective in reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. Brief interventions that incorporate deep breathing and gratitude may be beneficial. Visual triggers, pedometers, and health coaching with texting increased physical activity. Here, we circumvent this problem by using switchable, photochromic tungsten oxide nanoparticles, which are colorless even at high concentrations. Upon ultraviolet illumination, the tungsten oxide nanoparticles can be reversibly activated, making them highly absorbing in the infrared. Their strong infrared absorption upon activation renders them efficient photothermal sensitizers that can act as fusing agents for polymer powders in sintering-based 3D printing. The WO3 nanoparticles show fast activation times, and when mixed with polyamide powders, they exhibit a heating-to-color-change ratio greatly exceeding other sensitizers in the literature. Upon mixing with colored inks, powders containing WO3 display identical coloration to a pristine powder. Here, we report the first experimental investigation of spin transport across InSb NWs with ferromagnetic (FM) contacts. link3 We observe signatures of spin polarization and spin-dependent transport in the quasi-one-dimensional ballistic regime. Moreover, we show that electrostatic gating tunes the observed magnetic signal and reveals a regime where the device acts as a spin filter. They could also enable spin-based devices that leverage spin-orbital states in quantum wires.A stereoselectivity model inspired by the total synthesis of stemona alkaloids is developed to explain why enolate-derived 3,4-fused butyrolactones are methylated with a preference for syn alkylation. The model shows how conformational locking present in nonplanar enolate structures favors syn over anti methylation, due to less significant structural distortions in the syn pathway. The developed model was also successfully used to rationalize selectivities of previously documented methylation reactions.Presymptomatic detection of citrus trees infected with Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (CLas), the bacterial pathogen associated with Huanglongbing (HLB; citrus greening disease), is critical to controlling the spread of the disease. To test whether infected citrus trees produce systemic signals that may be used for indirect disease detection, lemon (Citrus limon) plants were graft-inoculated with either CLas-infected or control (CLas-) budwood, and leaf samples were longitudinally collected over 46 weeks and analyzed for plant changes associated with CLas infection. RNA, protein, and metabolite samples extracted from leaves were analyzed using RNA-Seq, mass spectrometry, and 1H NMR spectroscopy, respectively. Significant differences in specific transcripts, proteins, and metabolites were observed between CLas-infected and control plants as early as 2 weeks post graft (wpg). The most dramatic differences between the transcriptome and proteome of CLas-infected and control plants were observed at 10 wpg, including coordinated increases in transcripts and proteins of citrus orthologs of known plant defense genes.
