g., northern Ohio) and declines in abundance where summer temperatures are projected to increase well above those observed in the recent past (e.g., northern Minnesota). Although climate uncertainties dominate long-term population forecasts, our analyses suggest that we can improve precision of near-term forecasts by collecting targeted data to better understand relationships between breeding-season climate variables and local monarch abundance. Overall, our results highlight the importance of accounting for the impacts of climate changes throughout the full-annual cycle of migratory species.Several models have been developed to analyse cortical activity in response to salient events constituted by multiple sensory modalities. In particular, additive models compare event-related potentials (ERPs) in response to stimuli from two or more concomitant sensory modalities with the ERPs evoked by unimodal stimuli, in order to study sensory interactions. In this approach, components that are not specific to a sensory modality are commonly disregarded, although they likely carry information about stimulus expectation and evaluation, attentional orientation and other cognitive processes. In this study, we present an analytical method to assess the contribution of modality-specific and nonspecific components to the ERP. We developed an experimental setup that recorded ERPs in response to four stimulus types (visual, auditory, and two somatosensory modalities to test for stimulus specificity) in three different conditions (unimodal, bimodal and trimodal stimulation) and recorded the saliency of these stimuli relative to the sensory background. Stimuli were delivered in pairs, in order to study the effects of habituation. To this end, spatiotemporal features (peak amplitudes and latencies at different scalp locations) were analysed using linear mixed models. Results showed that saliency relative to the sensory background increased with the number of concomitant stimuli. We also observed that the spatiotemporal features of modality-specific components derived from this method likely reflect the amount and type of sensory input. Furthermore, the nonspecific component reflected habituation occurring for the second stimulus in the pair. In conclusion, this method provides an alternative to study neural mechanisms of responses to multisensory stimulation. The coordination chemistry of Ra2+ is poorly defined, hampering efforts to design effective chelators for 223Ra-based targeted alpha therapy. Here, we report the complexation thermodynamics of Ra2+ with the biomedically-relevant chelators DOTA and macropa. Our work reveals the highest affinity chelator to date for Ra2+ and advances our understanding of key factors underlying complex stability and selectivity for this underexplored ion.Cholesterol is known to modify the phase behavior of model lipid membranes as it makes phospholipid bilayers more structured. Simulation results have shown that the addition of cholesterol allows more bulk-like water to protrude into phospholipid interfaces. However, such claims have not yet been verified experimentally. We have investigated the alteration in the hydrogen bond network structure of water at the surface of two model phospholipids DOPC and DOPG as cholesterol is added into these using ATR-FTIR spectroscopy in the FIR-THz region. Our measurements and analysis led us to probe the collective H-bond network explicitly at the lipid surface. A detailed principal component analysis of the measured data concludes that the water-water H-bond vibration dynamics gets slower at the lipid surface as compared to bulk water, the effect being more prominent in the case of the charged phospholipid, DOPG. However, as cholesterol is added and more bulk-like water protrudes into the liposome interface, the H-bond vibration gets weaker and correspondingly the dynamics gets accelerated.Wolfram syndrome (WS) is a monogenic diabetes caused by variants of the WFS1 gene. Tubastatin A order It is characterized by diabetes mellitus (DM) and optic atrophy (OA). Individuals with WS initially present with autoantibody-negative type 1 DM (T1BDM). The diagnosis is often delayed or misdiagnosed even after visual impairment becomes apparent. We report a case of WS diagnosed by ophthalmologic screening before the appearance of visual impairment. A 7-year-old male patient developed T1BDM at the age of 3 years. At 6 years of age, his endogenous insulin secretion decreased but was not completely depleted, and glycemic control was good with insulin treatment. Fundus examination at that time revealed optic nerve head pallor, and WFS1 gene analysis confirmed a compound heterozygous variant (c.2483delinsGGA/c.1247T>A). Ophthalmologic screening can help in early diagnosis of WS in T1BDM especially when if endogenous insulin secretion is preserved, which would facilitate effective treatment.
A greater understanding of physiotherapists' work-life during their first year of work in private practice, and whether their experiences are mediated by personal traits, may provide valuable information to support their transition and retention.

Describe the first year of practice for graduate physiotherapists in terms of employee engagement, job satisfaction, performance, and burnout, and evaluate the relationship between these measures and personal traits (resilience, grit, mind-set).

One-year longitudinal mixed-methods study.

Twenty new graduate physiotherapists completed questionnaires evaluating resilience, grit, and mind-set within 1-week of commencing employment. Engagement and job satisfaction were evaluated at 3, 6 and 12-months, and burnout evaluated at 12-months. Performance data (number of patients seen, revenue) were collected throughout the year. Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted at baseline, 3, 9 and 12-months.

Engagement and satisfaction were high at all time poinat 12-months, those with higher job satisfaction and employee engagement had lower levels of burnout. Participants proposed practical strategies to help mitigate burnout.
To estimate incremental costs of an implementation model for scaling up Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) for neonates with birthweight <2000 g.

Seven sites across Ethiopia and India collected data for 2018-19 to calculate incremental recurrent costs (of health worker time, supplies, and operations) and start-up costs for KMC scale up. The costs were estimated per live newborn <2000 g eligible for KMC identified in the study population.

Scaling up KMC in study districts required average incremental costs of US$59 (95% CI US$ 52-67) in Ethiopia and US$72 (95% CI US$ 41-103) in India per eligible newborn in the population. Most of these costs were recurrent; the annualised start-up costs per eligible newborn ranged from 12%-25% of total costs in Ethiopia and 9%-16% in India. The major cost driver was human resources, followed by initial and recurrent training, supplies, and communications costs. Incremental infrastructure costs were only 2%-6% of total costs in both countries. Most of the costs were for activities at the KMC implementing facility, accounting for 79%-88% of the total costs in Ethiopia and 89%-93% of those in India.

The costs for successful scale up of KMC seem affordable but must be included in programme budgets.

Nevertheless, integrating silicon-based materials into high-performance energy devices is relatively scarce and highly appreciable because of the challenging production technology. Herein, we reported that silicene was triumphantly assembled into a high-voltage symmetric supercapacitor, which possesses a wide operating potential window (0-3 V), a maximum specific capacitance of 0.41 mF cm-2, a high energy density of 1.22 mJ cm-2, a high power density of 0.49 mW cm-2, and an excellent cycling stability of 96.6% capacitance retention after 10 000 cycles. The comprehensive performance of the silicene high-voltage symmetric supercapacitor is superior to that of the reported silicon-based materials. First-principles calculations reveal that monolayer or few-layer silicene with shorter ion diffusion pathways and higher utilization efficiency of active sites improves ion transport and electron transfer kinetics on the surfaces. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first time that silicene has been applied to the field of supercapacitors. This work will open up new horizons toward the material science research of electrochemical energy devices as well as help to promote the development of the high-performance supercapacitor industry. The preparation of luminescent self-healing materials simultaneously featuring superior integrated mechanical properties is still a great challenge because the relationship between self-healing ability and mechanical capacities is conflicted. Here, transparent luminescent materials with balanced self-healing behavior, extreme toughness, and fast elastic recovery are prepared via hierarchical rigid domain design by coordinating lanthanide (Ln3+) to terpyridine (TPy) moieties linked to the polymer chains formed through polymerization of tolylene-2,4-diisocyanate-terminated polypropylene glycol (PPG-NCO) and 1,6-hexanediamine (HDA). The hierarchical rigid domain containing lanthanide-terpyridine (Ln3+-TPy) coordination interactions and H-bonds formed by urea and urethane leads to a tough network that features unprecedented toughness of 133.35 MJ m-3, which reaches 83% of that of typical spider silk (≈ 160 MJ m-3) and is also dynamic for fast self-healing at ambient temperature. Besides, the multi-color emission, ranging from red through orange and yellow to green, can be achieved via adjusting the molar ratio of Eu3+/Tb3+. We believe that the strategy applied in this work provides some insights for the preparation of high mechanical strength luminescence materials with self-healing properties.Complex systems are challenging to understand, especially when they defy manipulative experiments for practical or ethical reasons. Several fields have developed parallel approaches to infer causal relations from observational time series. Yet, these methods are easy to misunderstand and often controversial. Here, we provide an accessible and critical review of three statistical causal discovery approaches (pairwise correlation, Granger causality, and state space reconstruction), using examples inspired by ecological processes. For each approach, we ask what it tests for, what causal statement it might imply, and when it could lead us astray. We devise new ways of visualizing key concepts, describe some novel pathologies of existing methods, and point out how so-called 'model-free' causality tests are not assumption-free. We hope that our synthesis will facilitate thoughtful application of methods, promote communication across different fields, and encourage explicit statements of assumptions.
