We report the 1H T1 dispersion curve between 0 and 5 MHz for the synthetic opioid fentanyl citrate (C28H36N2O8). The structures in the curve can be used to estimate the 14N nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) frequencies of the material. Density functional theory predictions of the NQR parameters of several fentanyl citrate compounds are also reported. The predictions for the aniline nitrogen are consistent with structures in the observed T1 data. To help interpret the fentanyl citrate results the T1 dispersion curve for the explosive ammonium nitrate is also presented. This study investigated 2 possible approaches to dietary control of acute postprandial responses to a rice-based meal under equicarbohydrate conditions (1) a dried apple (DA) preload and (2) co-ingestion of vinegar-soaked DA. We hypothesized that both approaches would counteract hyperglycemia with no negative effect on satiety, possibly explained by an inhibitory effect on digestive enzyme activity and/or the effect of the sugar component of the DA. Fifteen healthy female subjects consumed (1) rice, (2) co-ingestion of DA and rice (DA + R), (3) DA preload and rice (PDA + R), (4) rice with sugar solution (same sugar profile as in DA) preloaded (PSS + R), or (5) co-ingestion of rice with vinegar-soaked DA (VDA + R) in a randomized crossover trial. Acute postprandial glycemic response tests and subjective satiety tests were conducted for each test meal. Compared with rice reference, the PA + R and PSS + R achieved 31.4% and 36.3% reduction of the incremental area under the curve0-120, 24.3% and 27.0% decreases in the average glucose peak, along with 21.6% and 27.0% decreases in glycemic excursion in 240 minutes, whereas the VDA + R resulted 42.4%, 27.0%, and 29.7% reductions in the incremental area under the curve0-120, peak, and glycemic excursion, respectively. The DA-containing meals had no effect or a favorable effect on satiety. The in vitro assay found larger resistant starch and smaller rapid digestible starch fractions in DA + R and VDA + R meals compared to those of the rice reference (P  less then  .001). The result of this study supported the research hypothesis, and the DA-containing meals could be considered as a potential dietary approach for glycemic management. In this research Scenedesmus obliquus and Chlorella vulgaris growth was tested on digestate sludge obtained from the anaerobic co-digestion treatment of the organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW) together with waste activated sludge (WAS). Digestate was diluted 110 and tested in three batch experimental conditions with no pre-treatments (noPT), after centrifugation (AC) and after filtration (AUF), in order to evaluate microalgae limiting growth factors. The best growth was obtained by C. vulgaris on digestate AC compared to S. obliquus, reaching 479 ± 31 cell million ml-1 and 131 ± 12 cell million ml-1 respectively. Ammonia removal evaluated in C. buy Oxaliplatin vulgaris and S. obliquus cultures was 99.2% ± 0.3 and 98.146% ± 0.008 in AC condition, respectively. Considering that AUF showed similar microalgae growth values, the digestate pretreatment for microalgae growth, could be limited to centrifugation. This study analyzed the environmental impacts of nine scenarios for Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) bottle waste disposal, in the city of Bauru, Brazil. Nine scenarios were considered in this study (1) current (base) scenario (96.4% of PET waste is sent to landfill, 3.6% is sent to sorting cooperatives); (2) 50% to sorting cooperatives, 50% to landfill; (3) 50% to sorting cooperatives, 50% to incineration; (4) 50% to landfill, 50% to incineration; (5) 100% to sorting cooperatives (keeping the current collection distribution); (6) 100% to landfill; (7) 100% to incineration; (8) and (9) 100% sent to sorting cooperatives, with changes in the collection scheme. Life cycle assessment was implemented to compute the impacts for each scenario and compare their environmental performances. The results have shown that recycling is a better option than incineration across all impact categories analyzed. Landfilling had lower net impacts than incineration in all categories, except for ozone depletion and freshwater eutrophication. All recycling scenarios proposed outperformed the current scenario in all impact categories. Even though recycling presents itself as an environmentally-promising alternative, much work still needs to be done for its successful implementation, such as promoting source-separation at home and improving the management strategies of recycling cooperatives, including additional funding and training to support an increased sorting capacity.
The European Syncope Guidelines (ESG) recommend the use of Head-up tilt test (HUT) in case of suspicion of vasovagal syncope (VVS) or orthostatic hypotensive syncope (OHS) after an adequate initial inconclusive evaluation. We report a single center experience in the scenario of suspected VVS or OHS, who underwent HUT in patients referred to a Syncope Clinic after ruling out high-risk causes.

We prospectively and consecutively included all syncopal patients that were referred for HUT, by their attending physician after performing a series of diagnostic tests to rule out cardiac etiology. The clinical history and diagnostic tests performed were reviewed prior to HUT. Patients were pre-classified according to the recommendations from the ESG as; VVS, OHS or Syncope of Unknown Etiology (SUE).

We studied 1058 patients, 558 (52.7%) males, mean age 46.5 ± 20.1 yr. There were no gender differences in age, risk factors, previous heart diseases, ECG findings or number of previous tests. Based on the ESG criteria a significant number of diagnostic tests were probably unnecessarily performed. HUT was positive in 609 patients (57.5%). The rate of positive HUT according to pre-classification was significantly different among groups 60% VVS, 46.1% OHS and 54.3% SUE (p = 0.037). Combining ESG recommendations and HUT results of the 1058 resulted in 762 (72%) diagnosed as VVS, 89 (8.4%) as OHS and 207 (19.5%) as SUE.

Appropriate application of ESG recommendations combined with HUT, identified 81% of patients with non-cardiogenic syncope, potentially avoiding a significant number of unnecessary diagnostic tests.

Here we present a case of outflow tract premature ventricular contractions, which were eliminated by ablation from the right ventricular outflow tract accompanied by additional ablation from the very distant endocardial left ventricular outflow tract. The findings during the ablation indicated there was a single origin with multiple exit sites rather than multiple origins for each QRS morphology. This case illustrates that the preferential pathways can demonstrate very distant multiple exit sites.Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) appears to be ubiquitous in natural water. Higher level of H2O2 can cause physiological stress, immunosuppression and even death in aquatic animals, but the physiological and molecular mechanisms of H2O2 toxicity are not well studied. Thus, the aim of the present study was to exposure potential toxic mechanisms of H2O2 via assessing the effects on redox state, apoptosis and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in common carp. The fish were subjected to four concentrations of H2O2 (0, 0.25, 0.5 and 1 mM) for 14 days. And then, the tissues including blood, liver, muscle, gills, intestines, heart, kidney and spleen were collected to measure biochemical parameter and gene expression. The results showed that H2O2 exposure suppressed the majority antioxidative parameters in serum, liver, muscle and intestines, but enhanced T-SOD, CAT and T-AOC levels in gills. In all tested tissues, the MDA content was significantly promoted by H2O2 exposure. The oxidative stress-related genes including nrf2, sted tissues of common carp. The Nrf2, IRE1, PERK and MAPK pathways played important roles in H2O2-induced toxicity in fish. These data enriched the toxicity mechanism of H2O2 in fish, which might contribute to the risk assessment of H2O2 in aquatic environment.Effective phytoremediation by aquatic plant such as duckweed could be applied to solve Cd pollution. In the present study, the impact of Graphene oxide (GO) on the accumulation of Cd in duckweed has been studied. The response of duckweed was also investigated, concluding growth, Cd2+ flux, and gene expression response. Results showed that GO promoted the accumulation of Cd in duckweed. After 6 h of Cd enrichment in duckweed, Cd content was about 1.4 times that of the control group at fronds and 1.25 times that of the control group at roots, meanwhile, Cd content in the water system was 0.67 times that of the control group. The Cd2+ influx increased significantly. 4471 genes were up-regulated and 3230 genes were down-regulated significantly as duckweed treated with GO under Cd treatment. Moreover, phagosome pathway was downregulated, some key proteins Stx7, Rab7 and Tubastatin B (TUBB) were significantly downregulated with GO addition under Cd stress. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) observation showed that GO and Cd were attached on the cell surface of duckweed as white crystal. GO could be applied in phytoremediation by duckweed of Cd in aquatic system.Nanotechnology has become one of the fastest growing industries in the current century because nanomaterials (NMs) are present in an ever-expanding range of consumer products increasing the chance of their release into natural environments. In this study, the impacts of two metal nanoparticles (Ag-NPs and CuO-NPs) and their equivalent ionic forms (Ag+ and Cu2+) were assessed on the lentic freshwater rotifer Brachionus calyciflorus and on its ability to adapt and recover through generations. In our study, Ag-NPs and CuO-NPs inhibited the rotifer population growth rate and caused mortality at low concentrations ( less then 100 μg L-1). Ag-NPs and CuO-NPs decreased in the medium when organisms were present (48 h exposure 51.1 % and 66.9 %, respectively), similarly Ag+ and Cu2+ also decreased from medium in presence of the organisms (48 h 35.2 % and 47.3 %, respectively); although the metal concentrations removed from the medium were higher for nanoparticles than metal ions, metal ions showed higher effects then their respective nanoparticle forms. Rotifer populations exposed for 4 generations to the toxicants were able to recover the population growth rate, but some rotifers showed developmental delay and inability to reproduce even after the removal of the toxicants. Intracellular accumulation of reactive oxygen species as well as plasma membrane damage were found in the rotifers at concentrations corresponding to EC10 (Ag-NPs = 1.7 μg L-1, Ag+ = 4.5 μg L-1, CuO-NPs = 46.9 μg L-1, Cu2+ = 35 μg L-1) of the population growth rate. Our results showed, for the first time, that effects of metal nanoparticles and metal ions on rotifer populations may persist along several generations. This should be taken into account when assessing risks of metal nanoparticles in freshwaters.
