Most studies of urban forest management look at vegetation on public land. Yet, to meet ambitious urban forest targets, cities must attempt to maintain or increase trees and canopy cover on private urban land too. link= PhenolRedsodium In this study, we review and evaluate international approaches to protecting and retaining trees on private urban land. Our study combines a systematic academic literature review, two empirical social science studies on the views of urban forest professionals, and a global case study review of innovative regulations and incentives aimed at protecting and retaining trees on private urban land. Case studies were evaluated for the extent they exceeded minimum standards or went beyond 'business-as-usual'. We found that the most innovative mechanisms combine many regulations, instead of relying on a single regulation, and use financial incentives to retain or plant trees in newly developed or re-developed sites, as well as private residences. We did not find any cases where appropriate monitoring was in place to determine the efficacy and efficiency of these mechanisms. We also found no single simple solution that could effectively and efficiently protect and retain trees on private land. Only by combining policies, planning schemes, local laws, and financial incentives with community engagement and stewardship will cities protect and retain trees on private land. This study compares eight different asbestos stabilization treatments and their effectiveness in reducing asbestos fiber dispersion from weathered corrugated asbestos cement sheets (CACS) under different wind conditions. The effectiveness of the different asbestos stabilizers was assessed in order to identify the characteristics of fibers dispersed from treated CACS samples. link2 The impact of wind speed on the concentration and composition of the dispersed fibers was also evaluated. For all wind speeds, the concentration of the fibers dispersed from the CACS samples that were treated with stabilizers decreased relative to the untreated CACS. These results show that asbestos concentrations were considerably reduced following stabilizer treatment and that treated CACS dispersed fewer asbestos fibers relative to untreated CACS. link3 The results of this study will be useful for the development of strategies regarding the appropriate management of asbestos in public buildings.Attribute non-attendance (ANA) in discrete choice experiment (DCE) exercises has attracted increasing, yet limited, scholarly attention. This paper attempts to investigate ANA in a comparative case study, with a focus on its patterns and their association with socioeconomic, behavioral and perceptual factors, as well as its impacts on willingness-to-pay (WTP) estimates. We deploy a four-level polytomous scale (always, often, seldom, and never considered) for respondents to state their various degrees of attribute attendance (SANA) in an identical DCE questionnaire about urban river restoration initiatives in two global cities with contrast socioeconomic contexts, yet similar request for restoring polluted and modified urban rivers, Guangzhou (south China) and Brussels (Belgium). The survey results reveal the existence of large proportions of partial attendance in two sampled cities. link2 We use an extended mixed logit model, which incorporates separate parameters delineating each attribute's different attendance groups, to estimate respondents' average WTP values. We find that accounting for SANA could improve the goodness-of-fit of the model and affect the magnitude of mean WTP estimates. Respondents' attribute attendance level pertaining to various attributes is mainly associated with their perceived importance of urban rivers' ecosystem services, but may not be necessarily correlated with the strength of their preference for corresponding attributes as indicated by the mean WTP estimates. Whether this discontinuity between respondents' stated ANA levels and WTP estimates within Guangzhou sample questions the ability of DCEs to generate unbiased welfare estimation and policy guidance in developing countries calls for further studies.
To determine whether the ictal scalp EEG findings suggest purely hippocampal epileptogenicity in patients with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (mTLE) associated with hippocampal sclerosis (HS).
Twenty-three patients with mTLE with pathologically confirmed HS were divided into 12 with epileptogenicity only in the hippocampus (HS only group) and 11 with epileptogenicity in both the hippocampus and temporal neocortex or other locations (HS plus group), based on the combination of surgical procedures, postoperative outcome, and pathological findings. Sixteen underwent selective amygdalohippocampectomy (SelAH) and 7 received anterior temporal lobectomy. Ictal scalp EEG findings of 79 focal impaired awareness seizures were compared between the HS only and HS plus groups. We focused on the 1-4Hz rhythmic delta activity at ictal onset followed by 5-9Hz rhythmic theta/alpha activity 10-30 s after the onset in the temporal region.
The initial delta and delayed theta/alpha (ID-DT) pattern was observed in 8 of 12 patients in the HS only group, but in none of 11 patients in the HS plus group (p<0.01).

Improving symptomology and cognitive deficits in neurodevelopmental disorders is a crucial challenge. We examined whether neurostimulation protocols, which have been shown to yield long-term effects when combined with cognitive training, could benefit children with Attention-deficit/hyperactivity-disorder (ADHD), the most common neurodevelopmental disorder in childhood.
We used a randomized double-blind active-controlled crossover study of 19 unmedicated children with ADHD, who received either anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) or random noise stimulation (tRNS) over the bilateral dlPFC, while completing executive functions training.
For our primary outcome, tRNS yielded a clinical improvement as indicated by the reduced ADHD rating-scale score from baseline, and in comparison to the changes observed in tDCS. The effect of brain stimulation one week after completion of treatment yielded further improvement, suggesting a neuroplasticity-related effect. Finally, tRNS improved working memory compared to tDCS, and a larger tRNS effect on ADHD rating-scale was predicted for those who showed the greatest improvement in working memory.
We found that our intervention can have a lasting effect, rather than a merely immediate effect as was shown for in previous medical interventions in ADHD.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of tamsulosin, administered preoperatively, for the prevention of postoperative urinary retention (POUR). POUR is a common complication of abdominal surgery, leading to the use of urinary catheters, which are a risk factor for urinary tract infection. Tamsulosin is a uroselective alpha-1a blocker used for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms.
A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was undertaken from August 2015 to May 2018. Adults undergoing elective inpatient abdominal surgery were randomized to receive either tamsulosin 0.4mg or placebo daily for 7d before surgery and continuing for up to 7d postoperatively. The primary outcome was need for at least a single intermittent catheterization postoperatively. Secondary outcomes included first postvoid residual volume, number of catheterizations, need for replacement of an indwelling catheter, hospital length of stay, and urinary tract infection within 30d of surgery.
A total of 158 participants were enrolled, with a final analytic cohort of 141 participants. The two groups had similar baseline characteristics, operative characteristics, and timing of catheter removal. link3 There was no difference in the incidence of POUR between the two groups (26% in tamsulosin versus 31% in placebo, P=0.49). There was also no difference in any of the secondary outcomes between the two groups. Epidural usage, open surgery, and age <50 were identified as risk factors for POUR.

Soft tissue sarcomas (STSs) are mesenchymal tumors that may rarely metastasize to lymph nodes. This investigation sought to evaluate regional lymph node metastasis (RLNM) in extremity STS using a national cohort.
This study was a retrospective review of the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database from 1975 to 2016. PhenolRedsodium A Cox proportional hazards model was used to identify prognostic factors associated with disease-specific survival (DSS).
RLNM was present in 3.7% (n=547) of extremity STS. The rate of RLNM was highest in rhabdomyosarcoma (26.7%), clear cell sarcoma (18.8%), epithelioid sarcoma (14.5%), angiosarcoma (8.1%), spindle cell sarcoma (5.0%), and synovial sarcoma (3.2%). The 5-year DSS probability without RLNM was 69% (standard error 1.3%) compared to 26% (standard error 3.6%) with RLNM (P<0.001).
