Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) may coexist with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, it is unclear whether the manifestations of AAV with and without coexisting RA are similar. This observational study aimed to investigate the clinicopathological manifestations of AAV with coexisting RA and to explore potential predictors for identifying AAV superimposed on RA.
Patients with both AAV and RA were identified by searching our hospital database and the literature. Data including age, sex, clinical manifestation, laboratory tests, renal pathology, and therapeutic regimens were retrieved. To assess the difference in clinical features and renal pathology between AAV patients with and without RA, we conducted 14 matched case-control studies.
A total of 47 patients were identified, 15 from our hospital and 32 from the literature, and 33 (70.2%) were women. AAV was diagnosed later than RA in 83.0% of the patients and manifested as microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) in 78.7% of the patients. The kidney was the most frequently involved extra-articular organ (74.5%), followed by the lung (51.1%), and skin (8.5%). Patients with both AAV and RA were more likely to be asymptomatic (26.7% vs 3.3%, p =0.013) than those with isolated AAV. However, they did not differ in other clinicopathological features. In RA patients, those with ANCA associated glomerulonephritis, were more likely to have decreased renal function at renal biopsy as opposed to those with primary glomerulonephritis.
AAV can coexist with RA. In this coexistence, AAV usually develops after RA, is more likely to be asymptomatic, and manifests predominately as MPA with renal involvement. Thus, we should remain vigilant to superimposed AAV on RA.

To investigate the safety of vitrectomy with laser photocoagulation in eyes with small peripheral retinal breaks without air or gas tamponade.
Among patients who underwent vitrectomy for various retinal disorders, those with small peripheral retinal breaks treated by laser photocoagulation without air or gas tamponade were included in this study. Their medical records were assessed retrospectively, and we investigated the characteristics of small peripheral retinal breaks and the incidence of postoperative retinal detachment (RD).
Thirty-one eyes of 31 patients who presented with small peripheral retinal breaks requiring endolaser photocoagulation during vitrectomy were included in this analysis. There were two cases of iatrogenic retinal breaks that occurred during vitrectomy, while others were preexisting lesions, including retinal tears, atrophic retinal holes, and retinal holes with lattice degeneration. In some vertebrate species, gene-environment interactions can determine sex, driving bipotential gonads to differentiate into either ovaries or testes. In the central bearded dragon (Pogona vitticeps), the genetic influence of sex chromosomes (ZZ/ZW) can be overridden by high incubation temperatures, causing ZZ male to female sex reversal. Previous research showed ovotestes, a rare gonadal phenotype with traits of both sexes, develop during sex reversal, leading to the hypothesis that sex reversal relies on high temperature feminisation to outcompete the male genetic cue. To test this, we conducted temperature switching experiments at key developmental stages, and analysed the effect on gonadal phenotypes using histology and transcriptomics.
We found sexual fate is more strongly influenced by the ZZ genotype than temperature. Any exposure to low temperatures (28 °C) caused testes differentiation, whereas sex reversal required longer exposure to high temperatures. We revealed ovotestes exist along a spectrum of femaleness to male-ness at the transcriptional level. We found inter-individual variation in gene expression changes following temperature switches, suggesting both genetic sensitivity to, and the timing and duration of the temperature cue influences sex reversal.
These findings bring new insights to the mechanisms underlying sex reversal, improving our understanding of thermosensitive sex systems in vertebrates.
These findings bring new insights to the mechanisms underlying sex reversal, improving our understanding of thermosensitive sex systems in vertebrates.Evaluations of different technologies and solutions for indoor localization exist but only a few are aimed at the industrial context. In this paper, we compare and analyze two prominent solutions based on Ultra Wide Band Radio (Pozyx) and Ultrasound (GoT), both installed in an industrial manufacturing laboratory. The comparison comprises a static and a dynamic case. The static case evaluates average localization errors over 90 s intervals for 100 ground-truth points at three different heights, corresponding to different relevant objects in an industrial environment mobile robots, pallets, forklifts and worker helmets. The average error obtained across the laboratory is similar for both systems and is between 0.3 m and 0.6 m, with higher errors for low altitudes. The dynamic case is performed with a mobile robot travelling with an average speed of 0.5 m/s at a height of 0.3 m. In this case, low frequency error components are filtered out to focus the comparison on dynamic errors. Average dynamic errors are within 0.3-0.4 m for Pozyx and within 0.1-0.2 m for GoT. Results show an acceptable accuracy required for tracking people or objects and could serve as a guideline for the least achievable accuracy when applied for mobile robotics in conjunction with other elements of a robotic navigation stack.Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM) describes the process of inferring the consumption pattern of appliances by only having access to the aggregated household signal. Sequence-to-sequence deep learning models have been firmly established as state-of-the-art approaches for NILM, in an attempt to identify the pattern of the appliance power consumption signal into the aggregated power signal. Exceeding the limitations of recurrent models that have been widely used in sequential modeling, this paper proposes a transformer-based architecture for NILM. Our approach, called ELECTRIcity, utilizes transformer layers to accurately estimate the power signal of domestic appliances by relying entirely on attention mechanisms to extract global dependencies between the aggregate and the domestic appliance signals. Another additive value of the proposed model is that ELECTRIcity works with minimal dataset pre-processing and without requiring data balancing. Furthermore, ELECTRIcity introduces an efficient training routine compared to other traditional transformer-based architectures. According to this routine, ELECTRIcity splits model training into unsupervised pre-training and downstream task fine-tuning, which yields performance increases in both predictive accuracy and training time decrease. Experimental results indicate ELECTRIcity's superiority compared to several state-of-the-art methods.The core of cross-modal hashing methods is to map high dimensional features into binary hash codes, which can then efficiently utilize the Hamming distance metric to enhance retrieval efficiency. Recent development emphasizes the advantages of the unsupervised cross-modal hashing technique, since it only relies on relevant information of the paired data, making it more applicable to real-world applications. However, two problems, that is intro-modality correlation and inter-modality correlation, still have not been fully considered. Intra-modality correlation describes the complex overall concept of a single modality and provides semantic relevance for retrieval tasks, while inter-modality correction refers to the relationship between different modalities. From our observation and hypothesis, the dependency relationship within the modality and between different modalities can be constructed at the object level, which can further improve cross-modal hashing retrieval accuracy. To this end, we propose a Visual-textful Correlation Graph Hashing (OVCGH) approach to mine the fine-grained object-level similarity in cross-modal data while suppressing noise interference. Specifically, a novel intra-modality correlation graph is designed to learn graph-level representations of different modalities, obtaining the dependency relationship of the image region to image region and the tag to tag in an unsupervised manner. Then, we design a visual-text dependency building module that can capture correlation semantic information between different modalities by modeling the dependency relationship between image object region and text tag. Extensive experiments on two widely used datasets verify the effectiveness of our proposed approach.Equine odontoclastic tooth resorption and hypercementosis (EOTRH) is one of the horses' dental diseases, mainly affecting the incisor teeth. An increase in the incidence of aged horses and a painful progressive course of the disease create the need for improved early diagnosis. Besides clinical findings, EOTRH recognition is based on the typical radiographic findings, including levels of dental resorption and hypercementosis. This study aimed to introduce digital processing methods to equine dental radiographic images and identify texture features changing with disease progression. The radiographs of maxillary incisor teeth from 80 horses were obtained. Each incisor was annotated by separate masks and clinically classified as 0, 1, 2, or 3 EOTRH degrees. Images were filtered by Mean, Median, Normalize, Bilateral, Binomial, CurvatureFlow, LaplacianSharpening, DiscreteGaussian, and SmoothingRecursiveGaussian filters independently, and 93 features of image texture were extracted using First Order Statistics (FOS), Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM), Neighbouring Gray Tone Difference Matrix (NGTDM), Gray Level Dependence Matrix (GLDM), Gray Level Run Length Matrix (GLRLM), and Gray Level Size Zone Matrix (GLSZM) approaches. The most informative processing was selected. GLCM and GLRLM return the most favorable features for the quantitative evaluation of radiographic signs of the EOTRH syndrome, which may be supported by filtering by filters improving the edge delimitation.
