Nearly 100 million years of long geological time were required for the unicuspid tooth to transform into a tribosphenic molar, which is the prototype of all molars in modern mammals. From the ontogenetic (developmental) perspective, the shape of the tooth germ becomes complex by adding the secondary enamel knots repeatedly in a short embryonic period. The secondary enamel knots are signaling centers that determine the future cusp positions.

Here we first reviewed the evolutionary process of the tribosphenic molar in the Mesozoic Era (the age of dinosaurs), and cusp homologies in the fossil record. Next, we reviewed the developmental mechanisms controlling the patterning of secondary enamel knots, which determine the final cusp patterns of molars in modern mammals. Finally, we discussed the possible relationship between the two processes from the extremely different time scales.

To assess the feasibility and diagnostic yield of orally ingested SBCE to investigate obscure gastrointestinal bleeding (OGIB) in patients with surgically altered gastric anatomy, compared to native gastric anatomy.

207 patients with OGIB were selected from an open, multicenter, retrospective cohort (SAGA study) and match-paired according to age, gender and bleeding type (overt/occult) to 207 control patients from a randomized controlled trial (PREPINTEST). Primary outcomes were the diagnostic yield (P1 or P2 findings), completion rate, adverse events rate, and small bowel transit time (SBTT).

The diagnostic yield was not statistically different between groups (44.9% in SAGA vs 42.5% in control patients). Inflammatory/ulcerated lesions were significantly more frequent in patients with SAGA (43.0% vs 29.3%). The median SBTT was significantly longer in the SAGA group than in control patients (283 vs 206 minutes), with a significantly lower completion rate (82.6% vs 89.9%); Adverse events were scarce (0.5% vs 0.0%).

Proprioceptive accuracy refers to the individual's ability to perceive proprioceptive information, that is, the information referring to the actual state of the locomotor system, which originates from mechanoreceptors located in various parts of the locomotor system and from tactile receptors located in the skin. Proprioceptive accuracy appears to be an important aspect in the evaluation of sensorimotor functioning; however, no widely accepted standard assessment exists. In this systematic review, our goal was to identify and categorize different methods that are used to assess different aspects of proprioceptive accuracy.

A literature search was conducted in 5 different databases (PubMed, SPORTDiscus, PsycINFO, ScienceDirect, and SpringerLink).

Overall, 1139 scientific papers reporting 1346 methods were included in this review. A French certification of competence in gynecological cancer surgery has been elaborated in 2021 to certify specialized surgeons. For trainees, this would require a practical curriculum (number of rotations in certain departments), a surgical logbook and the theoretical European exam. The objective of our work was to interrogate trainees in gynecology and obstetrics on their oncological training and their opinion on the certification.

We conducted a national French prospective, observational study, using a web-based questionnaire from 06/2021-02/2022. All trainees were interrogated on their overall training in gynecological oncology. The opinion on the certification was assessed for the sub-group willing to specialize in oncological surgical gynecology.

One hundred and twenty-five responded, and 66.1% wanted to specialize in surgical oncology. Many had completed one rotation in a specialized gynecological oncology center (45.3%) and in digestive surgery (48.8%). Concerning the theoretical training, 92% of the respondents believed it to be insufficient. Eighty participants (64%) wished to specialize in oncological surgical gynecology and were interrogated on the certification. The majority (65%) thought the three criteria were difficult to achieve but adequate. The most difficult criterium was the practical curriculum (70.5%) followed by the surgical logbook (55.1%) due to inequalities of training amongst French regions.
