Meet One Of The 3 Wheel All Terrain Pushchair Industry's Steve Jobs Of The 3 Wheel All Terrain Pushchair Industry
3 Wheel All Terrain Pushchair

A pushchair that is all-terrain and has excellent maneuverability will suit you whether you are looking for a buggy for woodland walks or an excursion on the high street. These models typically come with large wheels and a suspension system that provides a smooth ride on bumpy terrain.

The majority are suitable for babies and include a lie-flat seat or newborn carrycot. They are also typically fitted with foam-filled, never-flat tyres for reducing maintenance.

Suspension

A true all terrain pushchair has a great suspension that is designed to be extremely smooth on uneven ground and help your child to be comfortable and calm. The wheels are usually big and puncture-proof to protect against injury from sharp rocks or sharp sticks.

The larger tyres can allow you to tackle more challenging terrain with ease, with some all-terrain pushchairs even offering the option of additional tyres that can be switched between for different conditions. Depending on the kind of terrain you like to explore, some all-terrain pushchairs have an swivel front wheel that can be locked for stability or left unlocked for greater maneuverability when needed.

Some all-terrain strollers come with a brake handbrake lockable that is more accessible with your free hand. This is better than a traditional pedal on the handlebars. This is a great feature for those who are an avid climber.

There are many strollers that have decent off-road capability however they are not the best. They also have large wheels and excellent suspension. They are generally cheaper than full-on all-terrain buggy options and will still be suitable for short strolls in the countryside or trips to the park.

Many of these pushchairs can be used starting at birth, either with the carrycot or a newborn-ready car seat. Be aware that the seats will not lay flat when pushing over bumps or dips. According to EU regulations, they only must meet minimum standards of a reclining angle of around 150 degrees. Certain brands, like Graco, have overcome this with their new "comfitech" suspension in the seat that allows the seat to recline at a slightly more flatter angle for a bit more comfort. This feature is available on the Lila XP all-terrain pushchair which can be used in conjunction with an appropriate Graco infant car seat to create a 3 in 1 travel system.

Seat

There's a wide selection of 3-wheel all terrain pushchairs available with a fantastic off-road performance. They are perfect if live in the countryside or walk frequently on rough, uneven terrain. 3 wheeled pushchair are often more robust and sturdy than a regular pushchair, and have special features such as large wheels that are puncture-proof to handle the most difficult of surfaces. They tend to be quite large and may be difficult to maneuver in tight spaces or in aisles of shops.

The seat of an all-terrain buggy may be world or parent facing and grows with your child, from infant to toddler (it's suitable from 6 months). It's fitted with foam-filled 'never flat' tyres to ensure an easy ride, dual frame suspension and luxurious padding in the seat, which provides great postural support and comfort. It also features a recline mechanism, an expansive sun hood that extends with integrated ventilation, as well as a smart phone pocket.

Another great option is the new Out 'n' About Nipper V5 Pushchair for all-terrain use that's a trailblazer with a great suspension and air-filled tyres which means it can be used to jog once your child is old enough. It features a 360-degree lockable front wheel that provides easy maneuverability and a quick one-handed folding. It's suitable for babies from birth and can be paired with an UPPAbaby carrycot or infant car seat adaptors (sold separately).

There are a number of all-terrain strollers that don't offer a reversible seat. However, the Oyster 3, Venicci Tanum and egg 2, which offer this option, have a good weight limit and a robust off-road ability. There are many pushchairs that are classed as all-rounders like the iCandy Pear and Bugaboo Cameleon that are able to cope with rough terrain at the park or National Trust places but don't have quite the off-road capability of genuine all-terrain pushchairs.

Then there are the crossover models which are a fantastic compromise between extreme off-road and high-street and offer excellent all-terrain capabilities with large wheels and great suspension, but they're designed like a standard pushchair, with reversible seats and fully-equipped carrycots, so they can be used everyday. The best models are made by brands such as iCandy Easywalker and Bugaboo.

Wheels

All-terrain pushchairs are essential when you live in the countryside or take your child for regular walks on rough terrain. These models have larger wheels on the back than regular pushchairs, which allows them to withstand bumpy terrain better and provide a smoother ride for your child. A lot of models also have a robust suspension that is puncture-proof, which means they can be used on woodland paths or forest paths, gravel roads and market town cobbles.

Some all-terrain pushchairs also feature a lockable front wheel which offers more stability when walking on rough terrain or on high kerbs. Others have swivel front wheels that allow you to maneuver the buggy more easily when changing direction or turning corners.

All-terrain pushchairs come with air-filled tyres that provide excellent shock absorption and are great for rough terrain but they're more prone to punctures than the EVA tyres that are used on city strollers that are light, therefore it's a good idea to invest in an repair kit with spare tubes and a pump alongside your pushchair. Certain all-terrain models come with foam tyres which are less prone to punctures, but aren't as effective at absorption of shock and can be harder to push than tyres filled with air.

The new Bugaboo Fox 5 is a excellent example of a pushchair that has both air and foam-filled tyres, an excellent suspension system, and large rear puncture-proof wheels which are perfect for off-road or jogging use (once your child is old enough). This model is also suitable for babies and can be used with a carrycot or a lay-flat seat.

The iCandy Peach All-Terrain is another alternative. It has big tyres, a single steering wheel in the front and big tyres. It's not as flexible as other all-terrain strollers on this list however it can manage hilly terrain and features a large one-handed fold that's great for long walks in the countryside, or long trips. It is also suitable for babies and comes with a large canopy that extends with an adjustable handlebar and a large, spacious basket.

pushchair 3 wheels

There are excellent all-terrain pushchairs designed for parents who are looking to take their children off-road, but do not wish to tackle Ben Nevis. They offer the best of both. Choose a model that has excellent all-terrain capabilities, durable suspension, and large puncture-proof wheels. However, they are designed in a more traditional pushchair design with reversible seats and the option of a full carrycot.

UPPAbaby's well-known Ridge all-terrain pushchair is an excellent example of this; it offers excellent suspension, a simple one-handed fold and a generous 10kg basket, but it also comes with features that are suitable for parents, such as an adjustable handlebar, hand-operated brake on the right and a large, covered storage space. A hood that can be removed and cleaned with cool soapy water is another handy feature that will help to stop mould and mildew from growing.

If you are planning to take your all-terrain stroller off-road choose air-filled tires rather than rubber grips. These will give a smoother ride on rough terrain and will be more maneuverable in tight spaces. If you plan to use your all terrain pushchair for occasional jogging make sure that the front wheel is swivelable or has a quick-release facility so it can lock in place for more stability.

To keep 3 wheeler pushchair in good condition, ensure that they can be machine-washed. If not, a spot clean with warm soapy water and warm water should be sufficient. The fabric can be dried completely outside to avoid mildew or mould.

The majority of our three wheel all terrain pushchairs can be used from the moment of birth. It is recommended to look for models that have a fully lying-flat seat with an adjustable backrest. This allows you to use the pushchair from the time your baby is born until the time your child reaches three years of age. If you want to travel with your family of three, there are plenty of models that are compatible with car seats thanks to the built-in adaptors. You can leave your car at home and instead use all-terrain strollers with a fixed wheel for jogging, light or casual strolling. One such example is the Delta Special Needs All-Terrain Jogger from Delichon, which comes in a variety of frame and canvas sizes that can be used by children and adults.
