The number of internet users has increased substantially in the last decade and these increasing rates of internet use also apply to children. Children usually have poorer self-control and poorer cognition than college-age populations or adults, the impact of Internet addiction on the health of this group has important implications not only for their individual economic and social outcomes but also the future human capital development in China.

We use data from the 2016 and 2018 China Family Panel Survey, a survey that collected data from a large and nationally representative sample of the Chinese population, to construct a sample of children from 25 provinces, and then use DID and PSM-DID methods to investigate whether Internet addiction (increased screen time in this article) impacts the physical and mental health of children (ages 10-15) in China.

Internet addiction has a significant negative impact on child physical and mental health. The mediating effect model shows that Internet addiction impairs lly studied the effects of Internet addiction on the physical and mental health of Chinese children. This study can help government leaders make targeted programs to prevent children from Internet addiction in the future, especially to reduce internet dependence among students.
Outcome measurement in bipolar disorder (BD) traditionally focused on clinical improvement without considering other domains. Improvement trajectories in clinical and social-functional domains are different and can simultaneously appear in one while not in other domains. Measuring personal recovery (PR) has become a priority internationally. This review explored the shift in research investigating operational recovery definitions and underpinning factors of recovery in BD over the past four decades.

Studies defining recovery domains (other than clinical recovery) in BD were systematically reviewed; operational recovery definitions and factors assessed in association with recovery were thematically categorised and integrated in a narrative synthesis.

Thirty-three studies, comprising 3638 participants from 19 countries were included. Identified operational recovery definition themes included i) PR ii) social-functional (SFR), and iii) occupational-residential (ORR) recovery. Examined factors were grouped search attempts to follow the significant policy shifts towards personalised care by measuring what matters to individuals and exploring broader underpinning psychosocial factors, it is still lagging behind.
Exposure to domestic violence has been shown to be an important risk factor of depression in western studies, but has received less attention in Chinese context. Additionally, the underlying mechanism of its link with depression has not been fully studied. With a longitudinal design, we examined the mediating role of sleep problems between exposure to domestic violence and depressive symptoms in Chinese adolescents, and further considered potential age and gender differences in the direct and indirect pathways.

Participants were recruited from primary and junior high schools in China and were surveyed across two waves with a 6-month interval. There were 1949 participants at Wave 1 and 1283 at Wave 2. Structural equation model was conducted to examine the mediating role of sleep problems in the association between exposure to domestic violence and depressive symptoms. Multigroup analyses were applied to test potential age and gender differences in the process.

Participants' exposure to domestic violence predicted increasing sleep problems, which further predicted more depressive symptoms. Age and gender moderated the indirect pathway from exposure to domestic violence to depressive symptoms through sleep problems, such that the mediating effects of sleep problems were significantly stronger in early-age adolescents and girls than middle-age ones and boys.

Parents should avoid the use of corporal punishment and protect their children from domestic violence. For adolescents who have underwent domestic violence, parents and clinicians might consider to decrease their depressive symptoms by ameliorating sleep problems, especially for the early-age adolescents and girls.

Neuroimaging studies on depersonalization / derealization disorder (DPD) have revealed that there are structural and functional alterations across numerous brain regions. However, to date, the exact white matter abnormalities that are associated with different clinical symptoms and cognitive impairments in first-episode, drug-naïve patients with DPD remain unclear.

Overall, 25 first-episode, drug-naïve patients with DPD and 23 healthy controls were recruited and underwent DTI scans. The tract-based spatial statistics analysis was conducted in order to determine white matter microstructural changes between the two groups. Correlation analysis was conducted between the fractional anisotropy (FA) of abnormal WM fibers and the total score of the 30-item Cambridge Depersonalization Scale (CDS-30), cognitive assessments.

Patients with DPD demonstrated higher FA in the right corpus callosum (CC), and posterior corona radiate (CR), compared to healthy controls. The FA in the right CC demonstrated a positive corclinical studies on DPD.Sequence variation in SLC45A2 are responsible for oculocutaneous albinism type 4 in many species and are associated with melanoma susceptibility, but the molecular mechanism is unclear. In this study, we used Slc45a2-deficient melanocyte and mouse models to elucidate the roles of SLC45A2 in melanogenesis and melanoma metastasis. We found that the acidified cellular environment impairs the activity of key melanogenic enzyme tyrosinase in Slc45a2-deficient melanocytes. check details SLC45A2 is identified as a proton/glucose exporter in melanosomes, and its ablation increases the acidification of melanosomal pH through enhanced glycolysis. Intriguingly, 13C-glucose-labeled metabolic flux and biochemical assays show that melanosomes are active glucose-metabolizing organelles, indicating that elevated glycolysis mainly occurs in melanosomes owing to Slc45a2 deficiency. Moreover, Slc45a2 deficiency significantly upregulates the activities of glycolytic enzymes and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B signaling to promote glycolysis-dependent survival and metastasis of melanoma cells. Collectively, our study reveals that the proton/glucose exporter SLC45A2 mediates melanin synthesis and melanoma metastasis primarily by modulating melanosomal glucose metabolism.Survival outcomes in melanoma and their association with mutations in the telomerase reverse transcriptase gene TERT promoter remain uncertain. In addition, few studies have examined whether these associations are affected by a nearby common germline polymorphism or vary on the basis of melanoma histopathological subtype. We analyzed 408 primary tumors from a prospective melanoma cohort for somatic TERT-124[C>T] and TERT-146[C>T] mutations, the germline polymorphism rs2853669, and BRAFV600 and NRASQ61 mutations. We tested the associations between these variants and clinicopathologic factors and survival outcomes. TERT-124[C>T] was associated with thicker tumors, ulceration, mitoses (>0/mm2), nodular histotype, and CNS involvement. In a multivariable model controlling for the American Joint Committee on Cancer stage, TERT-124[C>T] was an independent predictor of shorter recurrence-free survival (hazard ratio = 2.58, P = 0.001) and overall survival (hazard ratio = 2.47, P = 0.029). Patients with the germline variant and TERT-124[C>T]-mutant melanomas had significantly shorter recurrence-free survival than those lacking either or both sequence variants (P T] mutation is a biomarker of aggressive primary melanomas, an effect that may be modulated by rs2853669.Despite significant progress in the field of biosensing, the impact of electric field on biosensor detection capability and the feasibility of the biosensor application in wastewater has yet to be investigated. The objective of this study was to develop a low-cost, highly sensitive, and selective reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-based biosensor. The constructed biosensor consists of an in-house prepared GO and a four-terminal Kelvin sensing. Spin-coating was chosen as the deposition technique and results revealed an optimal GO number of layers and concentration of 7 and 2 mg/mL, respectively. Experiments to determine the effects of electric field on the performance of the biosensor showed significant changes in the biosensor surface, also presenting a direct impact on the biosensor functionality, such that the biosensor showed an increase in limit of detection (LOD) from 1 to 106 fg/mL when the applied voltage was increased from 0.0008 to 0.2 V. Furthermore, this study successfully explores a pilot scale setup, mimicking wastewater flow through sewage pipelines. The demonstrated improvements in the detection capability and sensitivity of this biosensor at optimized testing conditions make it a promising candidate for further development and deployment for the detection of protein analytes present at very low concentrations in aqueous solutions. In addition, the application of this biosensor could be extended to the detection of protein analytes of interest (such as the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2) in much more complex solutions, like wastewater.Organic aerosols (OA) play significant roles in several atmospheric processes and adversely impact human health. This study examines the key structural units present in water- and methanol-soluble organic carbon (WSOC, MSOC) fraction of OA from emission sources (traffic and biomass cooking) and an urban background location in India. Proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy was employed to assess the distribution of non-exchangeable proton structural groups of the OAs. Organic carbon, elemental carbon, black carbon, and water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC) analyses were also conducted. The 1H NMR analysis corroborated that the WSOC and MSOC fractions hold similar 1H structural groups; however, they differ in their relative distribution and absolute concentrations across the ambient locations and source emissions. The relative contribution of the proton structural groups to OA was in the order C-H > H-C-C=> H-C-O > Ar-H. The aliphatic concentration was lower in the morning tunnel entry aerosols when compared to other tunnel aerosols, whereas the unsaturated structures (H-C-C= ) were present in all the tunnel aerosols within a range of 47.
