Both BD and ADHD are disorders with onset in childhood and early adolescence. Both disorders are often undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, and sometimes overdiagnosed, leading to high rates of morbidity and disability. The psychiatric and behavioral symptoms associated with ADHD and BD have significant overlap. Albeit the existence of a large body of literature, it is far from being clear whether comorbidity can be explained by the confounding overlap of operationally defined criteria or whether it reflects a genuine comorbidity of two biologically distinct disorders. The aim of this paper is to recognize and/or differentiate the pattern of ADHD across the course of BD from a nosological point of view, focusing on specific clinical and neurobiological dimensions. We found that some critical issues may help to fulfill the purpose of our perspective. We suggest that the relationship between ADHD and BD, based on clinical, developmental, and epidemiological commonalities, can be better clarified using four different scenarios.
Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are associated with posttraumatic and complex posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms in adulthood (PTSD/cPTSD), as well as reduced epistemic trust (trust in the authenticity and personal relevance of interpersonally transmitted information) and impaired personality functioning. The present work aims to investigate the predictive value of epistemic trust-the capacity for social learning-on the mediating effect of personality functioning in the association of ACEs and PTSD/cPTSD.
We conducted structural equation modeling (SEM) based on representative data of the German population (
= 2,004). Personality functioning (OPD-SQS) was applied as a mediator between ACEs and PTSD/cPTSD (ITQ), while epistemic trust (ETMCQ) was added as predictor for OPD-SQS. TLI, CFI, and RMSEA (95%-CI) determined the models' fit.

Our paper explores the relevance of teaching communication competencies in psychiatry for undergraduate medical students. Our work focused on reviewing the methods for teaching communication skills to undergraduate students in Psychiatry. Eleven studies were selected to be included in this review. We found considerable heterogeneity among methods for teaching communication skills but also some common elements such as the use of simulated patients and providing feedback. This review has identified two models the Calgary-Cambridge interview model and the Kolb cycle-based model. However, most studies still lack a theoretical background model. We believe that the inclusion of communication skills training in medical curricula is fundamental to teaching medical students general communication skills but also specific training on establishing adequate communication with psychiatric patients. However, more research is needed to determine the best method for training but also regarding its translation to patient care and cost-effectiveness.Impaired cognitive function related to intrusive memories of traumatic experiences is the most noticeable characteristic of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); nevertheless, the brain mechanism involved in the cognitive processing is still elusive. To improve the understanding of the neuropathology in PTSD patients, we investigated functional cortical networks that are based on graph theory, by using electroencephalogram (EEG). EEG signals, elicited by an auditory oddball paradigm, were recorded from 53 PTSD patients and 39 healthy controls (HCs). Source signals in 68 regions of interests were estimated using EEG data for each subject using minimum-norm estimation. Then, using source signals of each subject, time-frequency analysis was conducted, and a functional connectivity matrix was constructed using the imaginary part of coherence, which was used to evaluate three global-level (strength, clustering coefficient, and path length) and two nodal-level (strength and clustering coefficients) network indices in four frequency bands (theta, alpha, low-beta, and high-beta). The relationships between the network indices and symptoms were evaluated using Pearson's correlation. Compared with HCs, PTSD patients showed significantly reduced spectral powers around P300 periods and significantly altered network indices (diminished strength and clustering coefficient, and prolonged path length) in theta frequency band. In addition, the nodal strengths and nodal clustering coefficients in theta band of PTSD patients were significantly reduced, compared with those of HCs, and the reduced nodal clustering coefficients in parieto-temporo-occipital regions had negative correlations with the symptom scores (Impact of Event Scale-Revises, Beck Depression Inventory, and Beck Anxiety Inventory). The characterization of this disrupted pattern improves the understanding of the neuropathophysiology underlying the impaired cognitive function in PTSD patients.College students are increasingly reporting common mental health issues like depression and anxiety, raising severe concerns for students' psychological wellbeing. Specifically, after the emergence of Post-COVID-19, digitization caused a potential role in mitigating students' psychological concerns. Therefore, the role of mental health education has been regarded as a topic of interest in managing the issue of Chinese college students' mental wellbeing. This study intends to look into the relationship between mental health education and psychological wellbeing, along with the moderating role of politically motivated internet addiction and the ideological passion of college students. For the given reason, the random sampling method was employed for collecting data from target respondents. The study uses 750 questionnaires prepared on a five-point Likert scale that were distributed to the respondents with an expected response rate of 50%. The partial least square (PLS) software was used to analyze the data for this study. The study concludes that there is a significant moderating role of politically motivated internet addiction and ideological passion in the relationship between college students' mental health and wellbeing. The study meaningfully contributes to the body of knowledge by establishing the unique, positive moderating role of Politically motivated internet addition in strengthening the relationship which undoubtedly will assist in improving the psychological wellbeing of college students through mental health education policies and implications.
The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a significant toll on people worldwide for more than 2 years. Previous studies have highlighted the negative effects of COVID-19 on the mental health of healthcare workers (HCWs) more than the positive changes, such as post-traumatic growth (PTG). Furthermore, most previous studies were cross-sectional surveys without follow-ups. This study draws on PTG follow-up during the COVID-19 outbreak at 12-month intervals for 2 years since 2020. The trajectories and baseline predictors were described.
A convenience sampling method was used to recruit frontline nurses or doctors at the COVID-19-designated hospital who were eligible for this study. A total of 565 HCWs completed the 2 years follow-up and were used for final data analysis. The latent growth mixture models (GMM) was used to identify subgroups of participants with different PTG trajectories. Multinomial logistic regression model was used to find predictors among sociodemographic characteristics and resilience at baseline.
Four trajectory PTG types among HCWs were identified 'Persistent, "Steady increase", "High with drop", and "Fluctuated rise." Comparing the "Persistent low" type, the other three categories were all associated with older age, higher education. Furthermore, "Persistent low" was also negatively associated with resilience at baseline.
The PTG of HCWs with different characteristics showed different trends over time. It is necessary to increase the measure frequency to understand the PTG status in different times. Improving HCW's resilience could help improve staff PTG.

Schizophrenia is a chronic mental illness observed with equal prevalence in different cultures and ethnic groups. The clinical picture relates to behavior and social adaptation. A significant percentage of patients, despite the implementation of various therapeutic interventions, remain resistant to the ongoing treatment. Occupying a certain gender role depends both on biological belonging and on the way of self-perception characteristic of the given person. Self-perception reflects gender identification, which in social aspect is determined by the choice of social activities performed. Changes in behavior and social adaptation in patients with schizophrenia led us to conduct a study to analyze the perceived gender role in patients with schizophrenia, looking for differences between patients with treatment resistance and those in clinical remission.
A total of 105 patients with schizophrenia were analyzed. Of them, 45 were with resistant symptoms and 60 in clinical remission. The clinical analysis of the showed higher identification with the female gender role. Approximately half of the males identified with the female gender role. Resistance had no influence on the choice of sex-associated social activity. Factors related to the course of the schizophrenia process such as age of onset of psychosis and duration of psychosis was not associated with an influence on identification with sex-associated social activity. learn more Our research suggests that identification with a particular sex associative social activity is most likely established earlier in the prodromal period.
