It is both safe and reliable for clinical use, and it is also easily managed by different hair surgeons without a long learning curve.
The current device can automatically make slit incisions in the recipient area with speed and consistency noninferior to manual site creation. It is both safe and reliable for clinical use, and it is also easily managed by different hair surgeons without a long learning curve.
Dermatologists have the opportunity to provide medically necessary procedures, including laser hair removal, to transgender patients for gender affirmation. Further research is required to better assess the unique dermatologic needs of this population.
To examine the prevalence of dermatologic procedures among transgender people in the context of gender-affirming treatment.
This cross-sectional study examined survey responses from 696 transgender persons enrolled in the Study of Transition, Outcomes, and Gender cohort. Prevalence of self-reported dermatologic procedures was examined and compared across participant subgroups.
Electrolysis was the most commonly reported procedure (32.9%). Transfeminine patients were more likely to use dermatologic procedures compared with transmasculine patients. Only 19 participants (2.8%) reported the use of dermal filler injections.
Differences in utilization of dermatologic procedures were noted in transgender populations. Motivations, barriers, and optimal timing for gender-affirming dermatologic procedures among transgender persons should be examined in future studies.

Masseter hypertrophy is the main cause of an asymmetrical and squared lower facial contour in the Asian community. PGE2 Botulinum toxin injection technique is crucial to treat this condition.
To improve injection techniques for masseter hypertrophy by elucidating the distribution of the injections within the masseter.
Thirty masseter muscles were divided into 6 groups of 5 muscles each. Each group received one 0.2- or 0.3-mL injection at Point A, B, or C according to a three-point technique. Muscle dimensions and dye of the primary and secondary dye spreading were measured.
The average muscle length, width, and thickness were 69.87, 33.50, and 11.23 mm, respectively. The average primary longitudinal and horizontal spreading was 36.56 and 15.60 mm, respectively. No statistically significant difference was found between 0.2- and 0.3-mL injections at each point.
The three-point technique best fits in the safe zone and should be the standard injection technique for masseter hypertrophy. Injection at Points B and C may create secondary spreading that affect the risorius muscle and the parotid gland which are the cause of asymmetrical smiling and xerostomia, respectively. The dosage should be adjusted according to the muscle volume and not only the thickness.

Minimally invasive cosmetic procedures are on the rise. To meet this rising demand, increasing numbers of physicians and nonphysicians are performing these procedures. Understanding malpractice trends and reasons for litigation in cosmetic medicine is important to establish safeguards for patient care and minimize liability.
Perform a comprehensive review of the literature on litigation associated with minimally invasive cosmetic procedures and discuss strategies to avoid facing a lawsuit.
The authors searched PubMed databases using a variety of keywords to identify studies of lawsuits arising from minimally invasive cosmetic procedures through December 2020.
A total of 12 studies of litigation meeting inclusion criteria were identified botulinum toxin (1), soft tissue fillers (3), lasers (5), body contouring/liposuction (1), chemical peels/dermabrasion (1), and sclerotherapy (1). Principle factors associated with litigation included negligence, lack of informed consent, vicarious liability for action of delegates, lack of communication, poor cosmetic result, failure to inform of risks, inappropriate treatment or dose, and failure to recognize or treat injury.
Understanding malpractice trends and reasons for litigation in minimally invasive cosmetic procedures can strengthen the patient-provider relationship, establish safeguards for patient care, and may minimize future risk of a lawsuit.

No consensus exists regarding the appropriate timing of adjuvant radiotherapy administration after surgical excision of keloids.
This study investigated the appropriate timing of adjuvant radiotherapy.
A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials and observational cohort studies was performed. A pooled estimate of the incidence rate was performed using a random-effects model. Subgroup analyses based on different anatomic region, biologically effective dose, keloid length, and radiotherapy regimen were also conducted.
Sixteen observational cohort studies (1,908 keloid lesions) met the inclusion criteria. The incidence rate was significantly lower in the group treated with electron beam therapy more than 24 hours after surgery (3.80%; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.78%-8.13%) than that in the group treated with the same therapy within 24 hours of surgery (37.16%; 95% CI, 20.80%-66.37%; p < .0001), but no significant difference was observed between the groups regarding brachytherapy and x-ray treatments.
Immediate adjuvant radiotherapy did not significantly reduce the incidence rate of recurrent keloids.

Accurate measurement of blood pressure (BP) is difficult in obese patients due to their upper arm shape and width. Errors made during BP measurement cause misdiagnosis or lead to wrong treatment.
The data of this methodological study were collected from 40 patients who were 18 years old or above, with a BMI above 25 kg/m2, and who were followed up with radial catheter arterial pressure in adult intensive care and postoperative care units between March and December 2020.
In total 55% of the participants were male with a mean age of 63.9 years, mean height of 165.7 cm, mean weight of 85.2 kg and mean BMI of 31.0 ± 2.1 kg/m2. Intra-arterial BP (IABP) measurement values were found to be correlated with conical wrapping technique and cylindrical wrapping technique (P < 0.001). As a result, a statistically significance was found between conical SBP and intra-arterial SBP (r = 0.921; P < 0.05) and conical DBP and intra-arterial DBP (r = 0.902; P < 0.05).
It was determined that the SBP and DBP results of the conical wrapping technique were closer to the results obtained by IABP measurements. For this reason, it is more appropriate to measure BP with conical wrapping technique in clinically obese patients.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the left ventricular (LV) function by conventional two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (2D STE) to detect subclinical LV systolic dysfunction in patients with dipper and nondipper hypertension.
One hundred consecutive patients with hypertension were included in our study. Clinical evaluation, baseline laboratory investigations, 24 ambulatory blood pressure monitoring 2D echocardiographic examination and 2D STE were performed for all patients. Patients were classified as dippers and nondippers according to their nighttime MAP (mean arterial blood pressure) reduction rate of ≥10 or <10%, respectively.
Of 100 patients, 71% were nondippers while 29% were dippers. Nondippers had a significantly lower global longitudinal strain (LS) value (-22.45 ± 3.26 vs. -18.2 ± 3.3, P < 0.001), global circumferential strain (CS) value (-24.23 ± 3.56 vs. -19.16 ± 8.25, P < 0.001) and global radial strain (RS) value (35.04 ± 11.16 vs. 29.58 ± 8.44, P = 0.009). It was found that nondipper status was associated with worsening of LS by 2.737, (P = 0.001), CS by 3.446, (P = 0.002), RS by -3.256, (P = 0.158) and DM also was found associated with worsening of LS by 1.849, (P = 0.062), CS by 3.284 (P = 0.018), RS by -2.499 (P = 0.381).
The nondipping hypertension pattern is associated with subclinical LV systolic dysfunction as shown by the impaired global myocardial strain in all three directions.

Restrained subjects often spit on law enforcement and corrections officers and medical responders. Based on the droplet-transmitted risk of COVID-19, such spitting could be considered a potentially life-threatening assault. Officers commonly use "spit socks" over the head and neck of spitting subjects to reduce this risk. The pneumatic impedance of such socks has not been published, so this remains an open issue for arrest-related death investigation.
We purchased samples of 3 popular spit sock models, 3 insect-protecting "bug" socks and hats, 3 N95 masks, a standard 3-ply surgical mask, and a common dust mask. We used a BTmeter model BTN8468 digital anemometer, an HTI model HT-1890 digital manometer, and an AC Infinity Cloudline model S6 inline controllable fan to measure air flow versus pressure drop. We compared the curves graphically and also calculated a pneumatic pseudo-impedance by dividing the pressure drop by the air velocity.
The spit and bug socks allowed nearly maximum airflow with minimal prrest-related death.Autosomal ring chromosomes are rare cytogenetic findings that arise from breakage and fusion of the chromosome ends. Rings are mitotically unstable, usually sporadic and associated with a 'ring syndrome', characterized by a variable phenotype growth retardation, no significant dysmorphisms and normal to moderately disabled intelligence. We describe the clinical features and molecular characterization of two sisters with ring chromosome 4. Karyotype analysis was performed on both sisters and parents. Chromosome microarray was performed on both sisters to delineate the breakpoint imbalance. Both sisters had a large ring 4 chromosome in the majority of cells analyzed on karyotype. Microarray results were identical in the sisters, showing a 55.8 kb duplication on the terminal 4p arm and a 1.5 Mb deletion on the terminal 4q arm. No genes of interest were identified in these regions. Parental karyotypes on lymphocytes and fibroblasts were normal, with no finding of mosaicism for the ring 4 chromosome. Polymorphic marker analysis revealed the maternal origin of the ring.
