Brain tumors, a group of heterogeneous diseases, are the second most common cancer and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in children. Insight into the prognosis of pediatric brain tumor survival has led to improved outcomes and could be further advanced through precision in prognosis. We analyzed the United States SEER population-based dataset of 15,723 pediatric brain tumor patients diagnosed and followed between 1975 and 2016 using a stratified Cox proportional hazards model. Mortality risk declined with increased age at diagnosis, the adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) (95 % confidence interval) was 0.60 (0.55, 0.67) and 0.47 (0.42, 0.52) for ages at diagnosis 1-10 years and 10-19 years, respectively, when compared with infants. Non-Hispanic Caucasian patients showed a lower risk of mortality than non-Hispanic African Americans (1.21 (1.11, 1.32)) and Hispanics (1.21 (1.11, 1.32)). Primary tumor sites, grades, and histology showed substantial heterogeneity in mortality risk. Brainstem (2.62 (2.41, 2.85)) and Cerebrum (1.63 (1.46, 1.81)) had an elevated risk of mortality than lobes. Similarly, Grade II (1.32 (1.07, 1.62)), Grade III (3.39 (2.74, 4.19)), and Grade IV (2.18 (1.80, 2.64)) showed an inflated risk of mortality than Grade I. Compared to low-grade glioma, high-grade glioma (7.92 (7.09, 8.85)), Primitive neuroectodermal tumors (4.72 (4.15, 5.37)), Medulloblastoma (3.11 (2.79, 3.47)), and Ependymal-tumors (2.20 (1.95, 2.48)) had increased risk of mortality. County-level poverty and geographic region showed substantial variation in survival. This large population-based comprehensive study confirmed identified prognostic factors of pediatric brain tumor survival and provided estimates as epidemiologic evidence with greater generalization.
To determine the role of progesterone, pessary and cervical cerclage in reducing the risk of (preterm birth) PTB in twin pregnancies and compare these interventions using pairwise and network meta-analysis.
Medline, Embase, CINAHL and Cochrane databases were explored. The inclusion criteria were studies in which twin pregnancies were randomized to an intervention for the prevention of PTB (any type of progesterone, cervical cerclage, cervical pessary, or any combination of these) or to a control group (e.g. placebo or treatment as usual). Interventions of interest were either progesterone [vaginal or oral natural progesterone or intramuscular 17a-hydroxyprogesterone caproate (17-OHPC)], cerclage (McDonald or Shirodkar), or cervical pessary. The primary outcome was PTB < 34 weeks of gestation. Both primary and secondary outcomes were explored in an unselected population of twin pregnancies and in women at higher risk of PTB (defined as those with cervical length <25 mm). Radiotherapy is an effective option for the treatment of TNBC; however, acquired radioresistance is a major challenge to the modality. In this study, we show that the integrated stress response (ISR) is the most activated signaling pathway in radioresistant TNBC cells. The constitutive phosphorylation of eIF2α in radioresistant TNBC cells promotes the activation of ATF4 and elicits the transcription of genes implicated in glutathione biosynthesis, including GCLC, SLC7A11, and CTH, which increases the intracellular level of reduced glutathione (GSH) and the scavenging of reactive oxygen species (ROS) after irradiation (IR), leading to a radioresistant phenotype. The cascade is significantly up-regulated in human TNBC tissues and is associated with unfavorable survival in patients. Dephosphorylation of eIF2α increases IR-induced ROS accumulation in radioresistant TNBC cells by disrupting ATF4-mediated GSH biosynthesis and sensitizes them to IR in vitro and in vivo. These findings reveal ISR as a vital mechanism underlying TNBC radioresistance and propose the eIF2α/ATF4 axis as a novel therapeutic target for TNBC treatment.Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease with no cure. Although the origin of psoriasis and its underlying pathophysiology remain incompletely understood, inflammation is a central mediator of disease progression. In this regard, electrophilic nitro-fatty acids (NO2-FAs) exert potent anti-inflammatory effects in several in vivo murine models of inflammatory diseases, such as chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease. To examine the therapeutic potential of NO2-FAs on psoriasiform dermatitis, we employed multiple murine models of psoriasis. Our studies demonstrate that oral treatment with nitro oleic acid (OA-NO2) has both preventative and therapeutic effects on psoriasiform inflammation. In line with this finding, oral OA-NO2 downregulated the production of inflammatory cytokines in the skin. In vitro experiments demonstrate that OA-NO2 decreased both basal IL-6 levels and IL-17A-induced expression of IL-6 in human dermal fibroblasts through the inhibition of NF-κB phosphorylation. Importantly, OA-NO2 diminished STAT3 phosphorylation and nuclear translocation via nitroalkylation of STAT3, which inhibited keratinocyte proliferation. Overall, our results affirm the critical role of both NF-κB and STAT3 in the incitement of psoriasiform dermatitis and highlight the pharmacologic potential of small molecule nitroalkenes for the treatment of cutaneous inflammatory diseases, such as psoriasis.Analyses of discourse surrounding climate change is a vital, but understudied, area of environmental and social psychology. In this review, we aim to draw psychologists' attention to recent discursive and narrative work on the topic of climate change. We summarise the importance of discursive methodologies for understanding and problematising the social dynamics of climate change at macro and micro levels and highlight their implications for intervention.Tropospheric aerosols are usually complex mixtures of inorganic and organic components, which show non-ideal behavior in hygroscopicity, mass transfer, and partitioning between gas and aerosols. In this study, we applied a novel approach based on a combination of a pulse RH controlling system and a rapid scan vacuum FTIR spectrometer to investigate the mass transfer limit of magnesium sulfate/glutaric acid (GA) mixture aerosol particles. The liquid water band area of the aerosols is used to reveal the mass transfer limit during the rapid pulse RH downward and upward processes. Partitioning equilibrium between the aerosol particles and water gas phase is observed at the higher RH range (73-50%). When the RH is lower than 40%, there is a hysteresis for the liquid water content changing with the RH, indicating the limited water mass transfer in the aerosols.
Osteosarcoma is the most prevalent type of primary bone sarcoma and is the major cause of deaths associated with cancer in children and adolescents. Despite novel and innovative therapies, early diagnosis of the osteosarcoma is still critically needed. Our study aimed to analyse the CCN3 proteins as a diagnostic marker and correlate their expression level with the severity of primary osteosarcoma patients.
In this prospective case-control study, after ethical clearance and informed consent, a total of 35 cases with primary osteosarcoma and ten otherwise healthy controls were enroled according to our strict inclusion-exclusion criteria. Tissue samples were collected during biopsy procedures in suspected cases and in controls during bone grafting procedures. The CCN3 expression level was measured by the western blotting assay. The clinic-radiological examinations were done in cases and graded according to the AJCC classification. Comparisons of CCN3 expression were measured between cases and controls, follo CCN3 suitable for a potential diagnostic biomarker. However, the author recommends further extensive multi-centric collaborative studies to increase our study reliability and generalizability.

The primary Bjerknes force acting on wandering bubbles in the acoustic wave field and the secondary Bjerknes force between the wandering bubbles and the holding bubbles strongly affects the circular motion. The circling and residence behavior of gas bubbles is described and analyzed in detail, which is helpful to understand and improve industrial applications such as ultrasonic cleaning, sonochemical treatment, aeration and cavitation reduction.Recent advances in mobile health have enabled health data collection, which includes seizure and medication tracking and epilepsy self-management. We developed a mobile epilepsy management application, integrated with a hospital electronic health record (EHR). In this prospective clinical trial, we assessed whether the mobile application provides quality healthcare data compared to conventional clinic visits, and enhances epilepsy self-management for patients with epilepsy. The study population includes patients with epilepsy (ages 15 years and older) and caregivers for children with epilepsy. Participants were provided access to the application for 90 days. We compared healthcare data collected from the mobile application with data obtained from clinic visits. The healthcare data included seizure records, seizure triggering factors, medication adherence rate, profiles of adverse events resulting from anti-seizure medication (ASM), and comorbidity screenings. In addition, we conducted baseline and follow-up questionnaires after the 90-day period to evaluate how this mobile application improved epilepsy knowledge and self-efficacy in seizure management.
