Finger-stick blood sampling was conducted in all the subjects, and serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] concentrations were measured. Maternal characteristics during pregnancy and infantile information were collected by questionnaires or extracting from medical records. Multivariable linear models were performed to assess the relationship between 25(OH)D and body mass index (BMI), while multivariable logistic regression models were used to examine the association between 25(OH)D and obesity. Among the 414 infants, 69 (16.67%) and 81 (19.57%) infants were defined as obesity and vitamin D deficiency [25(OH)D less then 50 nmol/L], respectively. The mean (SD) of 25(OH)D concentration was 68.05 (19.05) in infants without obesity, which was significantly higher than that of obese infants [60.36(18.49), p = .002]. Inverse linear relationships were observed between 25(OH)D level and BMI (β = -0.017, p = .004) as well as BMI Z-score (β = -0.010, p = .004). Furthermore, vitamin D deficiency was associated with an increased risk of obesity of infants (adjusted odds ratio = 2.74, 95% confidence interval = 1.20-6.25, with 25(OH)D ≥ 75 nmol/L as a reference). Here, the present work aimed to explore the potential of camel milk, a natural product with distinguished antioxidant/anti-inflammatory actions, to ameliorate CsA-induced nephrotoxicity in rats. The molecular mechanisms related to renal oxidative aberrations and apoptosis were studied, including Nrf2/HO-1 and AKT/eNOS/NO pathways. The kidney tissues were inspected using histopathology, ELISA, Western blotting, and immunohistochemistry. The present findings demonstrated that camel milk (10 ml/kg) significantly lowered creatine, BUN, and NGAL nephrotoxicity markers and the aberrant histopathology, with similar efficacy to the reference quercetin. Moreover, camel milk suppressed the renal oxidative stress, as evidenced by significantly lowering NOX-1 and lipid peroxides and significantly augmenting the renal antioxidant moieties (GSH, GPx, and SOD), thereby, driving the restoration of Nrf2/HO-1 pathway. Meanwhile, camel milk counteracted the pro-apoptotic reactions by significantly lowering Bax protein expression, caspase-3 activity/cleavage, and PARP cleavage, alongside significantly increasing the expression of the proliferation signal PCNA. Regarding the anti-apoptotic AKT/eNOS/NO pathway, camel milk activated its signaling by significantly increasing the protein expression of PI3Kp110, p-AKT(Ser473)/total AKT, and p-eNOS (Ser1177)/total eNOS besides significantly boosting the renoprotective NO levels. In conclusion, these findings reveal that camel milk may be a promising candidate for the alleviation of CsA-induced nephrotoxicity.Jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Mill.) is of great importance due to its medicinal properties and nutritional value. The current investigation was carried out to assess phenotypic variation of naturally grown accessions of this species. The accessions investigated exhibited meaningful variabilities based on the recorded characters. Fruit fresh weight ranged from 0.36 to 3.83 g with an average of 1.16, fruit dry weight varied from 0.21 to 3.04 g with an average of 0.80, and fruit flesh thickness varied from 1.24 to 8.51 mm. Skin color showed large variabilities among the accessions, including maroon-yellow, light maroon, maroon, dark maroon, light brown, brown, dark brown, and maroon-crimson. Principal component analysis (PCA) determined the characters influencing the most variation among the accessions. Cluster analysis performed with the Euclidean distance and Ward's method divided the accessions into two main clusters. The present findings provided essential data about the morphological traits of Z. jujube that can be used for the selection of superior genotypes and development of the fruit processing industry. Besides, the available results can be useful in designing conservation strategies and breeding of Z. jujube.In Xinjiang, China, traditional handmade cheese is made from fresh milk under natural environmental conditions and is a common fermented dairy product in the region. Due to differences in production methods between regions, the research conducted on the bacterial diversity of traditional handmade cheese is not comprehensive. Hence, little is known about the relationship between bacteria and cheese quality. Therefore, in this study, cheese samples from Tarbagatay Prefecture, Xinjiang, were chosen for investigation. The bacteria in 17 cheese samples were analyzed by sequencing 16S rRNA using Illumina MiSeq technology. The results showed that there were two dominant bacterial phyla and six dominant bacterial genera in the cheeses. Of these, Lactobacillus and Lactococcus displayed the most significant positive correlation with cheese quality. This study provides data to support the improvement of traditional cheese quality via microbial diversity and lays a foundation for the industrialization of traditional cheese production.
