Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?
It's easy to move around in a lightweight double pushchair, especially if you have kids with different ages. They are easy to fold, steer and carry up and down steps.
This City Mini GT2 features side-by-side seating with plenty of legroom. It also has adjustable reclining, UPF 50+ canopy and windows that peek out. It also features a smart frame that expands widthways to accommodate a second car seat and compatible car seat(s).
Side-by-Side
The majority of lightweight double pushchairs that we tested are side-by-side designs and are generally recommended for children who can sit up unassisted, as these models tend to lack car seat integration. However, the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double are both top choices that have recline that can be adjusted in both seats, a large canopy, and padded 5-point harnesses. These are also easy to move around, despite their larger footprint. They are ideal for parents who worry about fitting through doors.
The Cybex Duet pushchair is unique because it features a unique frame that expands in width to add an additional child seat. This makes it slimmer than other pushchairs that are side-by-side. It can fit through standard doors and is easy to maneuver in public transportation. It's also a jogger, which is great for those who want to use it in conjunction with an infant carrier or car seat. It's available in a variety of fun colors.
Another excellent side-by-side lightweight double is the UPPAbaby Vista v2 Double, that offers more flexibility and customization thanks to its modular frame. Its clever design lets you to transform it into an individual or double buggy by adding two carrycots or car seats for children. It can even accommodate twins. It's a good option for families that are growing. The UPPAbaby umbrella stroller is one of the lightest, sexiest and fashionable strollers you can find.
If you prefer a more compact lightweight double, try the egg2 which folds down to the size of a tiny suitcase. It can be used as a single or a double by adding two carrycots or infant car seats and our home testers loved how sleek and simple it was to handle, even when fully loaded with children.
Double pushchairs with side-by-side seating aren't 100% foolproof, however- if your children are at the same age or stage they might be fighting over who is allowed to ride in which seat. If they're different heights, a tandem model could be better for them, as it allows them to look at each other.
Tandem
While side-by-side models are best suitable for siblings of the same age, tandem lightweight double strollers come with distinct appeals. They can be fitted with a larger car seat, and some come with seats that can be reversible or a carrycot in the middle. They are generally more spacious and simple to get in and out of the baskets, though they are typically smaller than those on single buggies. Many feature larger canopies as well as peekaboo windows, and even padded leg cushions.
The iCandy Peach tandem is another great example of a lightweight tandem that provides great value. Its fabrics feel a little less expensive than our other top-rated tandems, however, it still looks and feels great and is easy to use. One of the most striking things about it is its one-handed fold. Although it does require practice, Kirstie in our Lab declared it to be "genius". The carrycot can't be folded while it's attached. However, the mechanism to attach and remove the carrycot is easy and quick.
Tandem pushchairs that are lightweight generally make more precise turns than side-byside models, however they are more difficult to drive on bumps and uneven surfaces. They are also slower to accelerate and heavier to move. This can put stress on your back.
A convertible double buggy is a different alternative. It's initially one but you can also add adapters to make it a double. It can also include a second seat, carrycot, or both in the front. Or the children can sit together. Some may have the option of including a buggyboard that assists an older child to keep pace with siblings who are younger.
The Uppababy Vista V2 is a excellent example of a convertible because it can also be converted into a twin pram with the purchase of additional cocoons (PS59 each) that provide a flat area for infants. They can be placed in a row or joined to face each other and you can also use them in conjunction with the infant car seat that comes with the pushchair (as long as you choose the right one). These buggies for dual-use are made of quality materials and can be used for a long time without showing any wear. double stroller Push Chairs & Prams have an excellent resale value.
Single-to-Double
Designed for outdoor-loving families who want to upgrade their single stroller, this light double buggy turns into a jogger with the help of an impressive kit that comes with air-filled tyres as well as all-wheel suspension. It is also a good choice for twins, or children of different ages and as a triple tandem, it is able to take on rough terrain. It's an excellent choice for parents who want a sleek design as simple as a single. It comes in various colors of fabric.
We loved the way that this iCandy model folds into itself using a single-hand mechanism that's really simple to master. And although it's heavier than some of the other single-to-double pushchairs featured in this review, our home tester Karolina said that it still feels very maneuverable - even when she had two toddlers and a carrycot inside.
The seat can be used with the parent facing, and you can also purchase accessories for this stroller such as the Roma Gemini carrycots (PS100 each) that are perfect for babies. Our panel of testers found that the seats were comfortable for toddlers and had good headrests and lumbar support. And there are plenty of options for reclining in the front, with the seat being able to be adjusted to different positions, and the rear seat offering the option to recline.
This type of buggy has the main disadvantage of being a bit wider than the side-by-side doubles. This makes it difficult to maneuver through doorways and it can be difficult to get between kerbs. The suspension and wheels of these models are generally able to cope with pavements. They're also lighter than most side-by-sides and, therefore, you can have plenty of storage. These strollers aren't easy to maneuver through supermarkets with narrow aisles and they might struggle to carry a large amount. Even though it's easier to turn the stroller on a narrow curved path, this can be a hassle. Some are more easy to turn than other models, like the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double or the Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double.
Convertible
Convertible double pushchairs are great because they can be adjusted to the changing needs of families. They typically start as single buggies and include adapters to add the second seat, a carrycot, or (in some cases) an automobile seat to the frame. Some can even convert back to a single buggie when your child gets older and starts to walk more or prefers to ride on a buggy board.
This stylish tri-fold double stroller is one of the lightest on our list. It can hold up to 40lbs per child and comes with a storage basket between the seats. The home testers loved the large canopy with windows that peek out, multi-position reclining seats and front and rear suspensions for smoother rides on rough terrain. It also has a convenient cup holder for parents and an ample, easy-to-access basket. However, they pointed out that the backs of the seats have small pockets that are not big enough to accommodate anything more than a smartphone and keys.
This high-end, lightweight side-by-side is available in more than 20 configurations. It also comes with a second seat and carrycot. Its impressive feature set includes a handlebar with a high-profile design for easier steering as well as rear and front suspensions to smooth rough terrain; a self-standing compact fold that has straps that make it easy to schlep and seven-inch swing lock front wheels and back wheels that measure 10 inches with suspension to provide a more comfortable ride. The only downside is that you'll need to purchase an additional car seat or baby carrier.
This multi-functional tandem is the most popular of our home testers due to the fact that it is simple to maneuver and features a large basket for shopping that can be accessed from both seats when in the parent-facing position. It is easy to maneuver thanks to its low weight (about the same as a few single pushchairs). The seats are reversible, which means that you can flip them to face either way, and the clever way it connects an additional seat or riding board to the rear is appreciated by many. Parents also loved the fact that it can accommodate infant carriers and car seat from a variety of brands. This includes some that are not normally compatible with other double buggies.
