The aim of our study was to investigate the persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC) cases diagnosed in the prenatal period in our clinic and to compare the obstetric and genetic outcomes of isolated PLSVC cases with cases accompanied by other cardiac or extracardiac anomalies.
The cases diagnosed as PLSVC between January 2015 and January 2019 in our perinatology clinic were evaluated retrospectively. Patients were divided into two subgroups as isolated PLSVC and PLSVC accompanied by another anomaly. Furthermore, patients with extra anomalies were divided into three groups which are cardiac anomaly, extracardiac anomaly and those with both. The groups were compared in terms of genetic results and obstetric outcomes.
89 patients were included in our study. Cases with positive pregnancy outcomes were significantly higher in the isolated PLSVC group than with extra anomaly group (p<0.001). No karyotype anomaly was observed in the isolated group. Pregnancy results were significantly worse (postpartum demise, termination of pregnancy, in utero demise) in with both cardiac and extracardiac anomalies group (p<0.001). There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of karyotype results (p=0.535).
The diagnosis of PLSVC has gained importance and it can be made easier due to the fact that anatomic imaging can be performed in more detail. The isolated PLSVC cases have a very good prognosis. Obstetric outcomes vary according to the accompanying anomaly.

The endoglucanases in glycosyl hydrolase CAZy family 45 (GH45) are known for their small size, a high thermostability and a broad substrate specificity that has been employed in textile and detergent industries. Here we report the heterologous expression and characterisation of an GH45 endoglucanase from the brown rot Fomitopsis pinicola and its direct comparison to an already characterised GH45 from the white rot Phanerochaete chrysosporium. Both enzymes were recombinantly expressed in Pichia pastoris and purified by two chromatographic steps. The biochemical characterisation highlighted the acidophilic character, with an optimal pH of 4, and a preference for amorphous substrates as carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and substrates containing β-1,4-glucans rather than the previously reported β-1,3/1,4-glucans lichenan and β-glucan. The dominating products from β-1,4-glucans were C3-C6 oligosaccharides, whereas from β-1,3/1,4-glucans glucose was the main reaction product. From the characterisation no differences between the brown rot and the white rot GH45 was evident.
This study aimed to develop a health promotion application for cancer survivorship (CS app) based on the adult learning and self-efficacy theories and evaluated its usability as an educational tool for nursing students.
The CS app was developed according to ADDIE (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation) model. It consisted of interventions involving medication, diet, exercise, stress management, symptom management, and regular medical checkup for cancer survivors on three different levels in terms of difficulty and complexity. It was designed to teach nursing students how to provide tailored care to cancer survivors as well as help survivors with their repetitive and regular health management. The Mobile App Rating Scale and the user version of the Mobile App Rating Scale were used for a heuristic evaluation of the CS app by the experts and student users.
The CS app was developed based on literature reviews and cancer survivorship guidelines. It was evaluated by 20 student users and five experts based on a 5-point scale and obtained a score of 3.97 and 3.66, respectively. Nursing students rated the CS app positively, mentioning that they were able to "learn about appropriate nursing interventions for patients in various cases" and that they became interested in caring cancer survivors' health using the CS app.
The CS app is an effective and user-friendly educational tool to increase the motivation of nursing students in learning cancer survivorship care. This highlights the potential of CS app as a useful learning tool for nursing students.

Germ plasm has had multiple independent origins, and takes on diverse forms and functions throughout animals, including in insects. We describe here recent advances in the understanding of the evolution of germ plasm in insects. A major theme that has emerged is the complex and convoluted interactions of germ plasm with symbiotic bacteria within the germline, including at the very origin of oskar, the gene required for assembling germ plasm in insects. Major advancements have also been made in understanding the basic molecular arrangement of germ plasm in insects. These advances demonstrate that further analysis of insect germ plasm will be fruitful in illuminating diverse aspects of evolutionary and developmental biology.Termite genomes have been sequenced in at least five species from four different families. Genome-based transcriptome analyses have identified large numbers of protein-coding genes with caste-specific expression patterns. These genes include those involved in caste-specific morphologies and roles, for example high fecundity and longevity in reproductives. Some caste-specific expressed genes belong to multi-gene families, and their genetic architecture and expression profiles indicate they have evolved via tandem gene duplication. Candidate regulatory mechanisms of caste-specific expression include epigenetic regulation (e.g. histone modification and non-coding RNA) and diversification of transcription factors and cis-regulatory elements. We review current knowledge in the area of termite sociogenomics, focussing on the evolution and regulation of caste-specific expressed genes, and discuss future research directions. Most tools available for manipulating gene function in insects have been developed for holometabolous species. In contrast, functional genetics tools for the Hemimetabola are highly underdeveloped. This is a barrier both to understanding ancestral insect biology, and to optimizing contemporary study and manipulation of particular large hemimetabolous orders of crucial economic and agricultural importance like the Orthoptera. For orthopteran insects, including crickets, the rapid spread of next-generation sequencing technology has made transcriptome data available for a wide variety of species over the past decade. Furthermore, whole genome sequences of orthopteran insects with relatively large genome sizes are now available. With these new genome assemblies and the development of genome editing technologies such as the CRISPR-Cas9 system, it has become possible to create gene knock-out and knock-in strains in orthopteran insects. As a result, orthopteran species should become increasingly feasible for laboratory study not only in research fields that have traditionally used insects, but also in agricultural fields that use them as food and feed. In this review, we summarize these recent advances and their relevance to such applications.Human T cell lymphotropic virus types 1 and 2 (HTLV-1/2) are delta retroviruses. HTLV-1 may lead to complications, including adult T cell leukemia-lymphoma (ATLL) and HTLV-1-associated myelopathy. Immunosuppression may result in progression from an asymptomatic carrier state to ATLL. Data on the safety of stem cell transplantation (SCT) in patients with HTLV-1/2 infection are lacking. The Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research database was queried for patients who tested positive for HTLV infection in the pretransplantation workup and underwent either autologous SCT (autoSCT) or allogeneic SCT (alloSCT). Patients were excluded if they underwent SCT for ATLL. MM3122 The primary outcome was overall survival (OS) at 3 years and 4 years post-SCT. In those who underwent autoSCT, 54 patients were HTLV-positive and 9836 were HTLV-negative. In those who underwent alloSCT, 105 patients were HTLV-positive and 18,077 were HTLV-negative. No difference in OS was noted between the HTLV-positive and HTLV-negative patients at 3 years post-autoSCT (76% versus 77%; P = .916). Inferior OS (32% versus 46%; P = .017) and nonrelapse mortality (35% versus 27%; P = .030) were observed in HTLV-positive patients at 4 years post-alloSCT. Future work should examine the mechanism by which HTLV-1/2 impact survival in alloSCT recipients. The ZUMA-7 trial demonstrated the superiority of second-line chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy over standard of care chemotherapy with or without autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) for relapsed/refractory (r/r) large B cell lymphoma (LBCL). We conducted a retrospective population-based analysis to determine eligibility for second-line CAR-T cell therapy in the real-world setting. Among 125 patients with r/r LBCL between 2015 and 2019, 82% progressed within 12 months of first-line chemoimmunotherapy (CIT), 40% were treated with intention-to-transplantation, 22% underwent ASCT, and 7% achieved a durable remission after ASCT. With a median follow-up of 2.8 years, the median overall survival (OS) was 5.1 months, and 3-year OS was 15% (95% confidence interval [CI], 7% to 20%) for all patients and 10% (95% CI, 5% to 17%) for those progressing within 12 months of CIT. Although only 14% of patients met all the ZUMA-7 study inclusion criteria, as many as 65% of patients progressing within 12 months of CIT had adequate performance status to be considered potentially eligible for second-line CAR T cell therapy. Whereas the current standard of care results in poor outcomes for most patients with r/r LBCL, the use of CAR T cell therapy in second-line therapy could substantially increase the proportion of patients able to receive curative-intent treatment at first progression of LBCL.There is no doubt that chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease increases the risk of esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) by several fold (odds ratio, 6.4; 95% CI, 4.6-9.1), and some relationships between reflux disease-mediated inflammation and oncogenic processes have been explored; however, the precise interconnections between the immune response and genomic instabilities underlying these pathologic processes only now are emerging. Furthermore, the precise cell of origin of the precancerous stages associated with EAC development, Barrett's esophagus, be it cardia resident or embryonic remnant, may shape our interpretation of the likely immune drivers. This review integrates the current collective knowledge of the immunology underlying EAC development and outlines a framework connecting proinflammatory pathways, such as those mediated by interleukin 1β, tumor necrosis factor α, leukemia inhibitory factor, interleukin 6, signal transduction and activator of transcription 3, nuclear factor-κB, cyclooxygenase-2, and transforming growth factor β, with oncogenic pathways in the gastroesophageal reflux disease-Barrett's esophagus-EAC cancer sequence.
