It is a well-known complication of drug and alcohol intoxication. However, less well appreciated is the potential role of neck hyperflexion as a specific cause of death in individuals with acute alcohol intoxication. Two cases are reported to demonstrate the usefulness of meticulous scene descriptions and documentation in cases of alcohol toxicity. Case 1 An intoxicated 51-year-old woman was found deceased with neck hyperflexion due to pressure on her head from a vehicle bumper bar (blood alcohol 0.24%). Case 2 An intoxicated 46-year-old man was found lying on his back with his neck acutely flexed and his chin pressed firmly into his shoulder (blood alcohol 0.4%). In both cases the deaths were attributed to positional asphyxia due to hyperflexion of the neck associated with alcohol intoxication, with potential exacerbation from concussion and alcohol/drug effects. Careful review of the scene findings and statements from those who are first to find a body in cases of acute alcohol intoxication may be necessary to determine the incidence of marked neck hyperflexion and its possible role in these deaths. Our perception of distinct structures in brain cells and understanding of their function has been revised and updated overtime. Past approaches combined with current powerful technologies provide a more complete picture of the brain's organization, from how the neurons connect with each other to finer details of every corner inside the neurons. This paper is based on analyzing the process of green innovation inspiration and green innovation compensation effect after the implementation of environmental regulations by the Chinese Government. This paper tests the hypothesis using the evolutionary game model and studies the underlying behavioral characteristics of the government, enterprises, and the relevant influencing factors. These influencing factors further aid in examining the evolution law applicable on both sides, which are aligned with the dynamic replication equation and evolutionary equilibrium states under different situations. The key variables used in this study include the concentration of government's environmental regulation, the cost of the regulations, economic penalties, enterprise's green innovation-related income, expenditures, and the enterprise's performance appraisal. Moreover, the results of this study reflect the system stability and equilibrium strategy on the proportion of retained earnings spent by enterprises on green innovation activities and the Government's strict environmental regulations. In the process of game strategy selection between the government and enterprises, the net income and weight of eco-efficiency indicators of the enterprises actively carrying out green innovation activities play a decisive role. Moreover, there should be reduced weight of economic benefits and increase the economic sanctions and innovation subsidies of enterprise pollution behaviors. Furthermore, reduced cost of regulations and innovation expenditures help guide enterprises to rationally allocate superior resources to enhance green enterprise innovation and take the level of innovation to the point that it achieves a win-win green sustainable development of economic performance and environmental performance. The spatial heterogeneity and influence factors of public lifespan have been reported worldwide at the national level or typical longevous areas. However, few sub-national studies considering the living environment and socio-economic level together have been explored in the imbalanced developed region with a huge population base and deteriorated air quality. In this paper, spatial heterogeneity of lifespan integrating environment and socio-economic influence factors was investigated in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (BTH) region of China using geographically weighted regression (GWR). Five indicators were constructed to determine the lifespan based on the three national censuses (1990-2010) in the BTH region. The results showed that the areas with higher CH (centenarians per 100,000 inhabitants) and centenarity index (CI) exhibited changing distribution in the BTH region, whereas those with lower CH and CI and extreme value of the ultra-octogenarian index (UOI) and LI (> 90/ > 65) maintained a relatively stable feature through time. But as lifespan indicators increase overall, the differences between the counties/districts widen. Furthermore, remarkable spatial heterogeneity was detected for the associations between the significant environmental and socio-economic variables and lifespan indicators. Although the natural geographic condition (altitude) still exhibited a negative influence on the longevity of the population, the socio-economic factors (GDPpc and income level) showed a more dominant influence on the extension of the elderly and longevity population. Correspondingly, the widened unbalance of population lifespan (UOI, LI, CH) was considered closely related to the socio-economic polarization, and the adverse effects of air pollution on life expectancy at birth (LEB) have also emerged. To further improve the overall lifespan level and narrow the lifespan gap in the BTH region, future work on cleaner air and more balanced development is still needed. The slow kinetics of CO2 absorption and high energy cost of CO2 desorption were the main challenges for CO2 capture technology. To overcome these drawbacks, a novel tri-solvent MEA (monoethanolamine) + EAE (2-(ethylamino)ethanol) + AMP (2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol) was prepared at different amine concentrations of 0.1 ~ 0.5 + 2 + 2 mol/L. The CO2 absorption and desorption experiments were conducted on MEA + EAE + AMP and their precursor MEA + EAE to evaluate the absorption-desorption parameters. Results demonstrated that the optimized concentrations of the bi-blend were 0.2 + 2 mol/L for absorption and 0.4 + 2 mol/L for desorption. For the tri-solvent, the optimized concentration was 0.2 + 2 + 2 mol/L, consistently for both abs-desorption sides. Compared with tri-solvent of MEA + BEA + AMP, MEA + EAE + AMP proved better in absorption but poorer in desorption, while its CO2 loading of operation line was 0.35 ~ 0.70 mol/mol, higher than that of 0.30-0.60 mol/mol MEA + BEA + AMP. These results led to another tri-solvent candidate of amine solvents in an industrial pilot plant. The perennial plant Echinops spinosus (ES) grows in the Hail area of Saudi Arabia, and its traditional formulations are often employed in folk medicine. The goal of this study is to identify the active components present in Hail Echinops spinosus and to investigate the anti-diabetic properties of both ES total extract (ESTE) and its high flavonoids fraction (ESHFF) in experimental diabetes induced by streptozotocin (STZ) injection in rats. Forty-two rats were divided into six groups. Diabetes was induced using STZ (55 mg/kg). Seven days after STZ administration, the diabetic animals were treated daily with ESTE, ESHFF, or metformin (MET) as a standard anti-diabetic drug for 28 days. Blood and tissues samples were collected for biochemical, molecular, and histological investigations. Both ESTE and ESHFF demonstrated anti-diabetic properties, as evidenced by lowering glucose levels and increasing the levels of insulin, insulin receptor expression rate, and glycogen synthesis. Additionally, ESTE as well as ESHFF alleviated diabetic complications in the kidneys and liver by decreasing oxidative stress, modulating inflammatory mediators, and suppressing the apoptotic cascade along with correcting diabetic dyslipidemia. It could be deduced that Hail ES extracts could play a role in the treatment of type 2 diabetes and diabetes-related lesions as well as oxidative damage in hepatic and renal tissues.Arsenic (As) is a hazardous pollutant that negatively impacts the physiological functions of alga. So far, a detailed understanding of algal response to As stress is still lacking. In this study, a transcriptome analysis was performed to illustrate the toxicity response of Caulerpa lentillifera J. Agardh, an edible algae with rich nutrition, to arsenite [As(III)], a toxic form of As. Totally, 1913 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were screened, of which 642 were up- and 1271 were downregulated in C. lentillifera under As(III) stress (30 mg·L-1) compared with control. As(III) stress promoted the growth of C. lentillifera at low concentration (0.1 mg·L-1) and inhibited the growth at high concentration (≥ 0.5 mg·L-1). LCL161 datasheet Multiple DEGs involved in oxidoreductase activities were significantly affected by As(III), and several DEGs related to antioxidant enzyme activity were downregulated, resulting in suffering from oxidative stress in C. lentillifera. Results also showed that As(III) stress inhibited chlorophyll and carotenoid synthesis, destroyed the integrity of chloroplasts, and interfered with the absorption of light energy, thereby inhibiting photosynthesis in C. lentillifera. The highly enriched ABC transporter-related genes involved in the detoxification process were upregulated under As(III) stress, indicating their critical role in the resistance to As stress in C. lentillifera. The gene expressions for 10 selected DEGs were confirmed by qRT-PCR, showing the reliability of the data revealed by RNA sequencing. Our novel work illustrated the toxicity of C. lentillifera under As(III) stress at the molecular level, serving as a basis for future investigations on the prevention and treatment of such pollutants. This study aimed to the examination of the levels and effects of organobromine compounds (polybrominated diphenyl ethers PBDEs and methoxylated brominated diphenyl ethers MeO-PBDEs), in Sparus aurata native to the Lagoon of Bizerte. For that, different biomarkers of exposure (somatic indices, superoxide dismutase, and catalase activities) and effect (malondialdehyde level, histopathologic alterations, and DNA damage) as well as pollutant levels were measured in specimens collected from this impacted ecosystem and the Mediterranean Sea as a reference site. Bizerte Lagoon PBDE fish levels were higher than the Mediterranean Sea, whereas MeO-PBDEs were higher in the reference site. Fish from Bizerte Lagoon presented a higher hepatosomatic index, lower catalase and superoxide dismutase activity, higher level of malondialdehyde, and higher percentage of DNA tail in comparison to fish from the reference area. The histological study of the liver indicated substantial lesions in fish from the polluted site. The results showed strong positive correlations between the concentrations of the PBDE or MeO-PBDE and the MDA and DNA tail % levels and negative correlations for the activities of enzymes of SOD and CAT.
