Our study is the first to investigate the effect of CD38 inhibition in naturally aged animals.Novel erbium(III) ion-doped borate-based glasses (Er3+ BCNF) by conventional melt-quenching technique were designed and synthesized. The glasses were characterized for their structural, vibrational and spectroscopic properties. The nephelauxetic ratio, bonding parameters, and Judd-Ofelt (JO) intensity parameters (Ωλ λ = 2, 4 and 6) were determined by using absorption spectrum of 1 mol% Er2 O3 doped glass. These JO parameters were utilized to derive radiative properties for various excited states of erbium(III) ions. Emission cross-section for 4 I13/2  → 4 I15/2 transition of erbium(III) ions was computed through McCumber theory. The decay curves for (2 H11/2 , 4 S3/2 ) and 4 I13/2 levels were recorded and analysed. All the results of Er3+ BCNF glasses revealed that the studied glasses are efficient and thermally stable and could be suitable for display devices, optical amplification and green laser applications.
Relapsed/refractory peripheral T-cell lymphoma (R/R PTCL) has a poor prognosis. Romidepsin (Ro) and brentuximab vedotin (Bv), combined with ifosfamide, carboplatin, and etoposide (ICE) has not been significantly studied in PTCL.

We report outcomes of Bv-ICE in CD30 (+) and Ro-ICE in CD30 (-) R/R PTCL treated in "Blinded for peer review" Cancer Center.

We retrospectively identified R/R PTCL patients treated with BV-ICE or romidepsin-ICE from May 2016 to September 2019. Out of 13 R/R PTCL patients, 6 were treated with Bv-ICE and 7 with Ro-ICE. Bv-ICE had an overall response rate (ORR) of 66.7%, with all the patients achieving a complete response. ORR was 71.4% for Ro-ICE with 57.1% of patients achieving a complete response. Two patients treated with Bv-ICE and three treated with Ro-ICE received transplantation.

In our experience, treatment with Bv-ICE and Ro-ICE based on CD30 positivity is feasible and effective to treat patients with R/R PTCL.

The review is divided into several sections, including antiviral and antitumoral nucleoside analogs as well as nucleoside analogs that have received marketing approval in other therapeutic areas. © 2022 Wiley Periodicals LLC.In this study, phytochemical and pharmacological screening of the aerial part and roots extracts from Doronicum orientale Hoffm. (Asteraceae) was carried out. Plant extracts were obtained using solvents of different polarity (hexane, ethyl acetate, ethanol, ethanol/water, water) for selection the most optimal solvent for the extraction of active compounds. For instance, the extracts yielded total phenolic and flavonoid contents in the range of 12.13-45.67 mg GAE/g and 0.75-12.44 mg QE/g, respectively, while the total antioxidant capacity of the extracts determined by the phosphomolybdenum assay ranged from 0.88-2.53 mmol TE/g. HPLC/MS/MS analysis revealed 5-caffeoylquinic acid (2.52-337.05 μg/g) and 3,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid (3.12-299.36 μg/g) to be the major components present in the investigated extracts. Antioxidant activity in terms of radical scavenging ability of the extracts ranged from 0.82-45.56 mg TE/g in DPPH assay and from 5.07-104.58 mg TE/g in ABTS assay. The tested extracts were found to inhibit acetylcholinesterase (aerial part 0.50-2.33 mg GALAE/g; roots 0.40-2.43 mg GALAE/g), while with the exception of the water extracts, the other extracts showed butyrylcholinesterase inhibition (aerial part 2.46-5.02 mg GALAE/g; root 2.93-4.17 mg GALAE/g). Overall, this study presented an interesting scope of this species in phytomedicine with preliminary data demonstrating some of the tested extracts to possess high bioactive contents, antioxidant potential and enzyme inhibitory activity. Thus, additional investigations are necessary to confirm their safety in herbal drug applications.
Adaptive radiotherapy requires auto-segmentation in patients with head and neck (HN) cancer. In the current study, we propose an auto-segmentation model using a generative adversarial network (GAN) on magnetic resonance (MR) images of HN cancer for MR-guided radiotherapy (MRgRT).

In the current study, we used a dataset from the American Association of Physicists in Medicine MRI Auto-Contouring (RT-MAC) Grand Challenge 2019. Specifically, eight structures in the MR images of HN region, namely submandibular glands, lymph node level II and level III, and parotid glands, were segmented with the deep learning models using a GAN and a fully convolutional network with a U-net. These images were compared with the clinically used atlas-based segmentation.

The mean Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) of the U-net and GAN models was significantly higher than that of the atlas-based method for all the structures (p<0.05). Specifically, the maximum Hausdorff distance (HD) was significantly lower than that in the atlas method (p<0.05). Comparing the 2.5D and 3D U-nets, the 3D U-net was superior in segmenting the organs at risk (OAR) for HN patients. The DSC was highest for 0.75-0.85, and the HD was lowest within 5.4mm of the 2.5D GAN model in all the OARs.

COVID-19 vaccination represents a key preventative part of the Australian public health approach to the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic. Hospital inpatients are frequently high risk for severe COVID-19 and death. Anecdotes of high-risk inpatients being unvaccinated and a lack of electronic medical record (EMR) visibility of COVID-19 vaccination status prompted the present study as these patients could represent a risk to themselves, staff, other patients and service provision.

To determine the uptake of COVID-19 vaccine among inpatients at an adult Australian tertiary public hospital and identify reasons for non-vaccination.

Using antisolvent not only leads to the formation of shrinkage holes at the bottom of the perovskite layer, but the toxicity of antisolvents would also hinder the industrial preparation of perovskite devices. An antisolvent-free method is a possible solution to avoid these problems. Here, we report a lateral-structured photodetector based on an antisolvent-free method. The lateral photodetector exhibited a high responsivity of 1.75 A⋅W-1 and specific detectivity (D*) of 3.54 × 1012 Jones. In particular, the results indicated that the solvent had an influence on perovskite film morphology, crystallization, and device performance. The prepared CH3 NH3 PbI3 film presented needle-like crystals and low performance with single precursor solvent N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF). In comparison, appropriate mixing of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) could improve the morphology, crystallization, and performance of the film. In addition, the solvent volume ratio of the precursor had a profound effect on the performance of the as-prepared photodetectors. At a DMSODMF volume ratio of 55, the as-prepared film had massive perovskite crystals and fewer defects, resulting in optimal device performance, which can be explained by Urbach energy.The FeS cluster-dependent dihydroxyacid dehydratases (DHADs) and sugar acid-specific dehydratases (DHTs) from the ilvD/EDD superfamily are key enzymes in the bioproduction of a wide variety of chemicals. We analyzed [2Fe-2S]-dependent dehydratases in silico and in vitro, deduced functionally relevant sequence, structure, and activity relationships within the ilvD/EDD superfamily, and we propose a new classification based on their evolutionary relationships and substrate profiles. In silico simulations and analyses identified several key positions for specificity, which were experimentally investigated with site-directed and saturation mutagenesis. We thus increased the promiscuity of DHAD from Fontimonas thermophila (FtDHAD), showing >10-fold improved activity toward D-gluconate, and shifted the substrate preference of DHT from Paralcaligenes ureilyticus (PuDHT) toward shorter sugar acids (recording a six-fold improved activity toward the non-natural substrate D-glycerate). The successful elucidation of the role of important active site residues of the ilvD/EDD superfamily will further guide developments of this important biocatalyst for industrial applications.
