In the present study, we elucidated the potential cytotoxicity of AgNPs in H9c2 rat cardiomyoblasts and assessed the underlying toxicological manifestations responsible for their toxicity thereof. The results indicated that the exposure of AgNPs to H9c2 cardiac cells decreased cell viability in a dose-dependent manner and caused cell cycle arrest followed by induction of apoptosis. The AgNPs treated cardiac cells showed a generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and mitochondrial dysfunction where mitochondrial ATP was reduced and the expression of AMPK1α increased. AgNPs also induced ROS-mediated autophagy in H9c2 cells. There was a significant time-dependent increase in intracellular levels of Atg5, Beclin1, and LC3BII after exposure to AgNPs, signifying the autophagic response in H9c2 cells. More importantly, the addition of N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) inhibited autophagy and significantly reduced the cytotoxicity of AgNPs in H9c2 cells. The study highlights the prospective toxicity of AgNPs on cardiac cells, collectively signifying a potential health risk.Cyclophosphamide is anticancer drug with a well-Known nephrotoxicity. This work was applied to study the lucrative antioxidant influence of metformin as co-therapy on the nephrotoxicity induced by cyclophosphamide in the treatment of different cancer diseases. Four groups of male Sprague Dawley rats were used; Control group (C) received single I.P. injection of 0.2 ml saline, Metformin (MET) group received daily gavage of 200 mg/kg metformin for two weeks, Cyclophosphamide (CP) group received single I.P. injection of 200 mg/kg CP, Protector group (CP.MET) received daily gavage of 200 mg/kg metformin for two weeks and single I.P. injection of 200 mg/kg CP at day 7. By day 14 rats were euthanized. Samples were collected from kidney tissues and blood for kidney function evaluation, histopathological and assessment of oxidative stress markers. The results disclosed that CP yields many functional and structural damage to the kidney, worsened oxidative stress markers and kidney function indicators. The protector group displayed better kidney tissue morphology, acceptable kidney function indicators as well as satisfactory oxidative stress markers. In assumption, metformin could be combined with CP owing to its lucrative effect counter to CP persuaded nephrotoxicity.Symbiotic bacteria play vital roles in the survival and health of marine sponges. Sponges harbor rich, diverse and species-specific microbial communities. Symbiotic marine bacteria have increasingly been reported as promising source of bioactive compounds. A culturomics-based study was undertaken to study the diversity of bacteria from marine sponges and their antimicrobial potential. We have collected three sponge samples i.e. Acanthaster carteri, Rhytisma fulvum (soft coral) and Haliclona caerulea from north region (Obhur) of Red Sea, Jeddah Saudi Arabia. Total of 144 bacterial strains were isolated from three marine sponges using culture dependent method. Screening of isolated strains showed only 37 (26%) isolates as antagonists against oomycetes pathogens (P. ultimum and P. capsici). Among 37 antagonistic bacteria, only 19 bacterial strains exhibited antibacterial activity against human pathogens (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) ATCC 43300, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853, Escherichia coli ATCC 8739, Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212). Four major classes of bacteria i.e γ-Proteobacteria, α-Proteobacteria, Firmicutes and Actinobacteria were recorded from three marine sponges where γ-Proteobacteria was dominant class. One potential bacterial strain Halomonas sp. EA423 was selected for identification of bioactive metabolites using GC and LC-MS analyses. Bioactive compounds Sulfamerazine, Metronidazole-OH and Ibuprofen are detected from culture extract of strain Halomonas sp. EA423. Overall, this study gives insight into composition and diversity of antagonistic bacterial community of marine sponges and coral from Red Sea and presence of active metabolites from potential strain. Our results showed that these diverse and potential bacterial communities further need to be studied to exploit their biotechnological significance. The current study was undertaken to investigate anticancer activity of coumestrol phytoestrogen against human skin cancer. MTT assay was performed for cell viability assessment and clonogenic assay for cell colony formation assessment. Apoptosis was analysed by Annexin V/FITC staining, AO/EB staining and western blotting assays. Effects on the m-TOR/PI3K/AKT signalling pathway were investigated by western blotting. Results indicated that coumestrol induced significant toxicity in human skin cancer cells in contrast to mouse skin cancer cells. The proliferation rate in normal skin cells remained almost intact. Annexin V-FITC and AO/EB staining assays indicated coumestrol induced cytotoxicity in skin cancer cells is mediated through apoptosis stimulation. The apoptosis in skin cancer cells was mediated through caspase-activation. Cell migration and invasion was inhibited by coumestrol in human skin cancer cells via inhibition of MMP-2 and MMP-9 expressions. Moreover, m-TOR/PI3K/AKT signalling pathway in SKEM-5 cells was blocked by coumestrol.
This study aimed to analyze the genetic relationships between honey bee subspecies using reference specimens and recently collected specimens from different parts of the world. The purity of these specimens was discussed in light of the obtained results.

The genetic networks were constructed between 21 subspecies of honey bees,
L. 9 in Africa, 7 in Europe and 5 in Asia. The analysis was performed using the mtDNA of these subspecies and the Population Analysis with Reticulate Trees software. Some subspecies were represented by more than two specimens based on the available online sequences.

The subspecies
from Africa showed unique characteristics and is genetically isolated than all other studied bee subspecies. Specimens collected from Saudi Arabia showed genetic relatedness to
,
, and some European subspecies, suggesting high degree of hybridization. The close genetic relationship between the Egyptian bees,
and the Syrian bees, A
, were emphasized. The overall genetic network showed the prk showed the presence of three distinct branches in relation to geographical locations. The high accurateness of the used analysis was confirmed by previous phylogenetic studies as well as the genetic relationships between hybrid bees of A. m. capensis and A. m. scutellata. The genetic networks showed the presence of bee subspecies from Africa in all branches including Europe and Asia. The study suggests the impurity of some specimens mostly due to the hybridization between subspecies. Specific recommendations for future conservation efforts of bees were presented in light of this study.Medicinal mushrooms have been used in various treatments from a very long time, among which, Ganoderma lucidum is one of the most important medicinal mushroom. It is cultivated worldwide to meet its ever-increasing demand in the market. It is generally cultivated by bed log (Sawdust) and wood log (billet) method. This study was an attempt to observe the growth performance of G. lucidum on poplar billets (Populus deltoides) in the Sherpur Village (Dehradun) and Manjgaun village (Tehri Garhwal) of Garhwal Himalaya, India. The farmers' field with empty house/ rooms having proper growing conditions especially humidity and light were used for the cultivation of G. lucidum. The G. lucidum spawn was inoculated in poplar wood billets and these billets were installed in well prepared soil. The results demonstrated that cropping cycle of G. lucidum was shorter (132-136 days) in Sherpur Village (Dehradun) as compared to Manjgaun village (141-145 days) in Tehri Garhwal. Further the results also revealed that yield was decreased in the subsequent flushes. In Village Sherpur, the fruiting bodies of G. lucidum were harvested between 64-66 days, 100-101 days and 135-136 days during first, second and third flush after the installation of billets, respectively. Vacuolin-1 PIKfyve inhibitor However; in village Manjgaun, the fruiting bodies of G. lucidum were harvested between 69 and 71 days, 107-108 days and 144-145 days in first, second and third after the installation of billets respectively. Warmer temperature in Village Sherpur resulted in the early emergence and development of the fruiting bodies as compared to village Manjgaun where pinhead and fruiting body development was delayed due to the lower temperature during cropping cycle.Acorus calamus (AC), is an herbal medicine commonly used as traditional practice in pharmacological applications. Present study initiated was evident to proof the hepatoprotective and nephroprotective activity with supporting histopathological status of kidneys and liver. Investigation done with the 5% (w/v) of AC dissolved in tap water (50 g/l) given for 15 days compared with control tap water to 5-7 week old C57Bl/6 mice both sexes. Renal function, liver function, biochemical and complete blood count was evaluated. AC significantly reduced food intake, body weight, also plasma concentration of electrolytes such as Na+, K+, Ca2+, were reduced as the excretion of electrolytes were increased in urine, significantly increased Fluid Intake, with Urinary urea, Urinary creatinine, Glomerular Filtration Rate, creatinine clearance, High-density lipoproteins, Mean Corpuscular Volume. The biochemical findings showed the hepatoprotective and histopathological changes showed the nephroprotective nature of AC by normal structure with no necrosis.Sandflies are the main vectors of Leishmania parasites in tropical and subtropical areas. The immunization of vertebrate hosts with vector components through repeated bites may offer an alternative method for sandfly control. Aliquots of female Phlebotomus papatasi (Scopoli) (Diptera Psychodidae) were weekly blood fed on 12 individual hamsters throughout 18 successive weeks. Significant biological and biochemical changes resulting from antibodies developed by immunized host sera against repeated biting were observed in sandfly females. Blood feeding and fertility rates of females significantly gradually declined to the end of the study period. No appreciable difference was observed in mortality rates among flies repeatedly fed on individual hamsters throughout weeks 9 and 18, compared to flies fed on naïve hamsters. Total salivary gland proteins of female sandflies were compared to proteins in sera of sensitized hamsters. SDS-page revealed bands common to both flies and hosts, indicating the development of anti-saliva antibodies in hamster sera. The importance of anti-sandfly saliva antibodies as a potential tool for vector control leading to the interruption of leishmaniasis is discussed.Barbershops provide areas for the growth and transfer of bacterial pathogens and thereby have an impact on public health. Barbershops are ideal places for the interactive spread of infections, including community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA). Here, the work determines the degree of bacterial contamination of hair dryers used in barbershops. The samples were collected in the city of Riyadh, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on March 2019. Significant bacterial contamination was seen, with total bacterial count increasing when the hair dryers were run for 20 instead of 10 s. The study shows a high level of bacterial contamination barbershops using hair dryers, with MRSA being isolated in some. The results suggest that high quality filters should be used inside hair dryers and filters, and theses should be cleaned frequently.
