Multi-gene mutation metastatic castrate-resistant cancer of the prostate.
Microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs) attract widespread attention due to their final threats to human health. Here, 50 nm and 500 nm polystyrene particles (PS50 and PS500) were selected as the typical NPs and MPs, respectively. Their aggregation kinetics was monitored, and their deposition was investigated on silica and alumina surfaces using quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D). PS500 has higher critical coagulation concentration (CCC) values than PS50, because of the weaker Brownian diffusion, less particle number and lower collision chance. PS50 has smaller values of critical deposition concentration (CDC) than PS500, indicating the stronger adsorption on silica. Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek (DLVO) calculations explain that PS500 has weaker attachment on silica and slower deposition rate on alumina than PS50. Our results demonstrate that solution chemistry, particle size and mineral surfaces determine the transport and distribution of plastic particles together.Ocean warming and acidification can cause deleterious effects on marine biota, which may be potentialized when associated with metal pollution. Thus, the aim of this work was to evaluate the effects of pH decrease, temperature increase and lead contamination on fertility rate and embryo-larval development of Echinometra lucunter. Gametes and embryos were exposed at pH 8.2 (control) and 7.5; at 26°C (control) and 28°C; and at lead concentrations of 0 (control), 125, 250 and 500 μg/L. These conditions were tested individually and in combination. The fertilization rate of E. lucunter was only significantly reduced in the treatments where temperature was increased and in the treatment where pH decreased. However, the development rate of the pluteus larvae was significantly affected in the majority of treatments metal contamination in the higher concentration; decreased pH in all metal concentrations; increased temperature in the highest metal concentration; decreased pH and increased temperature and all variables combined, which is decreased pH, increased temperature and metal contamination in relation to the control group (C). The development test was shown to be more sensitive than the fertilization test in all the studied scenarios. In general, the present study suggests that pH decrease, temperature increase and metal pollution may have a significant impact on E. lucunter reproductive cycle.In this study, we report molecular and metabolic responses of Sciaenops ocellatus during an acute oil exposure bioassay (100, 800 and 8000 mg 1-1 of crude oil). The global DNA methylation and expression profiles of key genes of the xenobiotic biotransformation system (cytochrome P450 1A [cyp1a] and glutathione S-tranferase [gst]), oxidative stress system (glutathione peroxidase [gpx], catalase [cat], aldehyde dehydrogenase [aldh]) and reproductive system (vitellogenin [vtg]) were evaluated. This study used contingent valuation and choice experiment methods and in-person interviews to estimate household willingness to pay (WTP) for gray and green interventions to augment water supply in rural Costa Rica. In particular, we examined residents' preferences for well construction, as a form of gray intervention, and reforestation, as a form of green intervention, aimed at alleviating water shortages. Household WTP to reduce annual water shortage by one day varied between $0.85 (95% CI = 0.77-0.94) and $1.32 (95% CI = 1.08-2.56) per month depending on the project. The results also indicated that households were willing to pay $2.28 (95% CI = 1.36-3.21) and $3.51 (95% CI = 2.57-4.44) per month to increase forest cover in the watershed by 140-180 and 300-340 ha, respectively, assuming no additional water provision from the reforestation project. Nonwater-related benefits comprised 25-34% of the WTP for green intervention, depending on the acreage scenario. We also observed that, even without the nonwater-related ecosystem service benefits associated with reforestation, the value of water from green intervention exceeded the corresponding value of water from gray intervention. The disparity between preferences for water obtained from gray and green intervention may be due to differences in corresponding timing, uncertainty, quality of additional water made available from the considered projects, and differences in value elicitation methods.Suppression of established populations of invasive alien species can be a complex and expensive process, which is frequently unsuccessful. The Asian clam, Corbicula fluminea (Müller, 1774), is considered a high impact invader that can adversely alter freshwater ecosystems and decrease their socioeconomic value. To date, C. fluminea continues to spread and persist within freshwater environments worldwide, despite repeated management attempts to prevent dispersal and suppress established populations. As extensive C. fluminea beds can often become exposed during low-water conditions, the direct application of hot or cold thermal shock treatments has been proposed as suitable mechanism for their control. Further, mechanical substrate disturbance may enhance the efficacy of thermal shock treatments by facilitating exposures to multiple layers of buried clams. In the present study, we advanced these methods by assessing combined applications of both hot and cold thermal shock treatments for control of C. fluminea, using steam spray (≥100 °C; 350 kPa), low- or high-intensity open-flame burns (~1000 °C) and dry ice (-78 °C). In a direct comparison of raking combined with hot thermal shock applications, both steam and high-intensity open-flame treatments tended to be most effective, especially following multiple applications. In addition, when hot thermal treatments are followed by a final cold shock (i.e. dry ice), steam treatments tended to be most effective. Further, when dry ice was applied either alone or prior to an application of a hot shock treatment, substantial if not complete C. fluminea mortality was observed. Overall, this study demonstrated that combined applications of hot and cold thermal shock treatments, applied following the disruption of the substrate, can substantially increase C. fluminea mortality compared to separate hot or cold treatments.The impact of surgical or percutaneous coronary revascularization on prognosis in patients with a chronic total occlusion (CTO) remains uncertain. Particularly, whether revascularization of those with robust coronary collaterals improves prognosis is unknown. The objective of this study was to determine the predictors and prognostic impact of revascularization of a CTO, and to determine the clinical impact of robust coronary collaterals. Patients with a CTO diagnosed on coronary angiography between Jul 2010 and Dec 2019 were included in this study. Management strategy of the CTO was defined as percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) or medical management. The degree of collateral robustness was determined by the Rentrop grading classification. Demographic, angiographic and clinical outcomes were recorded. A total of 954 patients were included in the study, of which 186 (19.5%) patients underwent CTO PCI, 296 (31.0%) patients underwent CABG and 472 (49.5%) patients underwent medical management of the CTO. 166 patients (17.4%) had Rentrop grade zero or one collaterals, 577 (60.5%) patients had Rentrop grade two and 211 (22.1%) had Rentrop grade three collaterals. The independent predictors of medical management of the CTO were older age, greater stenosis in the donor vessel, an emergent indication for angiography, a non-LAD CTO and female sex. The degree of collateral robustness was not associated with long-term mortality, while patients who were revascularized either through CABG or PCI had a significantly lower mortality compared to medical management alone (p  less then  0.0001). In patients with a CTO, the presence of robust collaterals is not associated with prognosis, while both surgical and percutaneous revascularization is associated with improved prognosis. Further research into the optimal revascularization strategy for a CTO is required.
