Dimethyl sulfide (DMS) is produced by plankton in oceans and constitutes the largest natural emission of sulfur to the atmosphere. find more In this work, we examine new particle formation from the primary pathway of oxidation of gas-phase DMS by OH radicals. We particularly focus on particle growth and mass yield as studied experimentally under dry conditions using the atmospheric simulation chamber AURA. Experimentally, we show that aerosol mass yields from oxidation of 50-200 ppb of DMS are low (2-7%) and that particle growth rates (8.2-24.4 nm/h) are comparable with ambient observations. An HR-ToF-AMS was calibrated using methanesulfonic acid (MSA) to account for fragments distributed across both the organic and sulfate fragmentation table. AMS-derived chemical compositions revealed that MSA was always more dominant than sulfate in the secondary aerosols formed. Modeling using the Aerosol Dynamics, gas- and particle-phase chemistry kinetic multilayer model for laboratory CHAMber studies (ADCHAM) indicates that the Master Chemical Mechanism gas-phase chemistry alone underestimates experimentally observed particle formation and that DMS multiphase and autoxidation chemistry is needed to explain observations. Based on quantum chemical calculations, we conclude that particle formation from DMS oxidation in the ambient atmosphere will most likely be driven by mixed sulfuric acid/MSA clusters clustering with both amines and ammonia.Alkyl nitrate (AN) and secondary organic aerosol (SOA) from the reaction of nitrate radicals (NO3) with isoprene were observed in the Simulation of Atmospheric PHotochemistry In a large Reaction (SAPHIR) chamber during the NO3Isop campaign in August 2018. Based on 15 day-long experiments under various reaction conditions, we conclude that the reaction has a nominally unity molar AN yield (observed range 90 ± 40%) and an SOA mass yield of OA + organic nitrate aerosol of 13-15% (with ∼50 μg m-3 inorganic seed aerosol and 2-5 μg m-3 total organic aerosol). Isoprene (5-25 ppb) and oxidant (typically ∼100 ppb O3 and 5-25 ppb NO2) concentrations and aerosol composition (inorganic and organic coating) were varied while remaining close to ambient conditions, producing similar AN and SOA yields under all regimes. We observe the formation of dinitrates upon oxidation of the second double bond only once the isoprene precursor is fully consumed. We determine the bulk partitioning coefficient for ANs (K p ∼ 10-3 m3 μg-1), indicating an average volatility corresponding to a C5 hydroxy hydroperoxy nitrate.
Prolonged intermittent theta-burst stimulation (piTBS) and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) are effective antidepressant interventions for major depressive disorder (MDD). Cognition-modulated frontal theta (frontalθ) activity had been identified to predict the antidepressant response to 10-Hz left prefrontal rTMS. However, whether this marker also predicts that of piTBS needs further investigation.

The present double-blind randomized trial recruited 105 patients with MDD who showed no response to at least one adequate antidepressant treatment in the current episode. The recruited patients were randomly assigned to one of three groups group A received piTBS monotherapy; group B received rTMS monotherapy; and group C received sham stimulation. Before a 2-week acute treatment period, electroencephalopgraphy (EEG) and cognition-modulated frontal theta changes (Δfrontalθ) were measured. Depression scores were evaluated at baseline, 1 week, and 2 weeks after the initiation of treatment.

The Δfrontalθ at baseline was significantly correlated with depression score changes at week 1 (r = -0.383, p = 0.025) and at week 2 for rTMS group (r = -0.419, p = 0.014), but not for the piTBS and sham groups. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for Δfrontalθ was 0.800 for the rTMS group (p = 0.003) and was 0.549 for the piTBS group (p = 0.619).

The predictive value of higher baseline Δfrontalθ for antidepressant efficacy for rTMS not only replicates previous results but also implies that the antidepressant responses to rTMS could be predicted reliably at baseline and both piTBS and rTMS could be effective through different neurobiological mechanisms.

To report a case of daratumumab-induced bilateral angle closure glaucoma and myopia that showed no recurrence after repeated drug administration with prophylactic cycloplegia.

A 63-year-old man with relapsing multiple myeloma presented with acute bilateral eye pain and blurred vision 14 hours after first daratumumab infusion. Eye examination revealed raised intraocular pressure and shallow anterior chamber. Anterior segment ocular coherence tomography and ultrasound biomicroscopy showed ciliochoroidal effusions in both eyes. The diagnosis of bilateral acute angle closure glaucoma and induced myopia was made. Cycloplegia- and intraocular-pressure-lowering medications were given, which gradually deepened the anterior chambers and normalized intraocular pressure and refraction. The ciliochoroidal effusions completely resolved on day 14. The cycloplegic was given as a premedication for subsequent infusions. There was no recurrence of effusion throughout his 6-month daratumumab treatment course.

Daratumumab can induce ciliochoroidal effusion, which results in acute secondary angle closure and myopia. The potential prophylactic effect of the cycloplegic drug may enable continuation of daratumumab infusion under close monitoring.

To report two cases of thyroid eye disease (TED) associated compressive optic neuropathy (CON) that resolved after treatment with teprotumumab.

Two patients presented with active TED resulting in mild CON with the typical corresponding visual field (VF) defects. Both patients were initiated on intravenous (IV) corticosteroid therapy but despite treatment had persistent VF defects. Both patients were then treated with teprotumumab and demonstrated marked clinical improvement and complete resolution of TED-CON VF defects early in their infusion course.

These cases suggest that teprotumumab can be a rapid and effective treatment for TED-CON, and raises the question of whether it may be superior to IV corticosteroid therapy.

Since the conventional resampling scheme used in the PF suffers from computational burden, resulting in less efficiency in terms of computation time and complexity as well as the real time applications of the PF. The strategy to remedy this issue is proposed in this work. After state updating, important high particle weights are used to formulate the pre-set percentile in each sequential iteration to create a new set of high quality particles for the next filtering stage. The number of particles after PBR remains the same as the original. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, we first evaluated the performance of the method via numerical examples to a complex and highly nonlinear benchmark system. Then, the proposed method was implemented for frequency estimation for two time-varying signals. From the experimental results, via three measurement metrics, our approach delivered better performance than the others. Frequency estimates obtained by our method were excellent as compared to the conventional resampling method when number of particles were identical. In addition, the computation time of the proposed work was faster than those recent adaptive resampling schemes in literature, emphasizing the superior performance to the existing ones.
Spinal arachnoid cysts (SAC) are intradural lesions, which may provoke a compression of the spinal cord and roots. Endoscopic techniques are increasingly used to minimize the surgical access and the postoperative scar tissue. Shunts may also represent an option. The aim of this paper is to illustrate the technique of endoscopic-assisted fenestration and positioning of a cysto-peritoneal diversion in a thoracic SAC using a flexible endoscope and to perform a systematic literature review on this subject.

We reported our case and we performed a review of the literature, searching for all the adult cases of Type III SACs in English language treated through endoscopic procedures.

We found 5 articles matching our search criteria and we included 9 adult patients in our analysis. Six patients were females and the most common localization was the thoracic spine. Six patients underwent selective laminectomies followed by endoscopic fenestration without cyst wall resection. Three patients had a percutaneous endoscof post-operative complications. The long-term risk of recurrence should be established by prospective studies. The present work aims to evaluate the binding capacities of binary complexes of L-Methionine with transition metal ions CoII, NiII and CuII in Triton X 100-water mixtures, a non-ionic micellar media of different compositions (0.0-2.5% (v/v)), investigated under the experimental conditions of 0.16 mol/dm3 ionic strength using NaNO3 at a temperature of 303.0 ± 0.1 K Potentiometrically. The potentiometric data was assessed by Irving-Rossotti pH metric technique with the least-squares method of MINIQUAD75, a computer program. The selectivity of the best fit model obtained by continuous exhaustive chemical modelling studies and the accuracy of the results is assessed based on statistical parameters. MLH, ML and ML2 are the identified species for the three M(CoII, NiII and CuII) - Met systems. The shift in the equilibrium of binary metal-methionine complexes with variation in composition (0.0-2.5%) of the solvent can be explained by electrostatic together with non-electrostatic forces contributed by the interaction of solute with solvent. In this paper, cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) were isolated from the cellulose extracted from cocoa pod husk waste, followed by characterization using XRD, FT-IR, TGA, SEM and TEM to determine its crystallinity, structural properties, thermal characteristics, morphology and dimensions respectively. The result revealed that the cocoa pod husk amorphous segments containing hemicelluloses and lignin were extensively removed with increasing chemical treatments leading to increased purity, crystallinity index and thermal stability of the extracted materials. The diameter, length and crystallinity index of the CNC isolated from the CPH are 10-60 nm, 41-155 nm and 67.60% respectively.
