We have explored recurrent neural networks with LSTM model which shows potential to predict the particulate matter ([Formula see text]) based on multi-step multi-variate data of two of the most polluted regions of South Asia, Beijing, China and Punjab, Pakistan effectively. The LSTM model is tuned using Bayesian optimization technique to employ the appropriate hyper-parameters and weight initialization strategies based on the dataset. The model was able to predict [Formula see text] for the next hour with root-mean-square error (RMSE) of 0.1913 (91.5% accuracy) and this error gradually increases with the number of time steps with next 24 hours steps prediction having RMSE of 0.7290. While in case of Punjab dataset with data recorded once a day, the RMSE for the next day forecast is 0.2192. These multi-step short-term forecasts would play a pivotal role in establishing an early warning system based on the air quality index (AQI) calculated and enable the government in enacting policies to contain it.
To analyze an intervention that delivered tailored clinic staff training on postpartum depression (PPD) followed by awareness raising and social support aimed at lowering PPD among low-income Bedouin women in southern Israel.

We conducted a non-randomized controlled trial at two women's health clinics. The study included 332 of the 384 eligible women recruited at baseline (intervention = 169, control = 163), who completed two face-to-face interviews, one at 26-38weeks of pregnancy (Time 1) and one 2-4months postpartum (Time 2). PPD was measured by the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and dichotomized using a ≥ 10 score cutoff. We calculated EPDS change (rate difference of dichotomous EPDS from Time 1 to Time 2) (no change, positive change, or negative change), and compared EPDS changes in a control clinic vs. an intervention clinic.

The intervention group showed a greater decrease in dichotomous EPDS ≥ 10 between times 1 and 2 (38.5% to 17.2%) than the control group (31.9% to 29.4%, PV = 0.008). Multinomial logistic regression showed that high PPD awareness significantly contributed to positive EPDS change in the intervention group (PV = 0.003) and high social support significantly protected against negative EPDS change in both groups, intervention (PV = 0.001) and control (PV = 0.003).

In low-income women, an intervention focusing on increasing PPD awareness and social support following staff training was associated with reduced EPDS and positive EPDS change following the intervention. Similar interventions should be implemented in women's clinics during pregnancy.

Community forum participants voted for an education and resource distribution program (using a baby box) to help reduce local infant mortality. Although multiple sites have implemented similar programs, there is limited peer-reviewed literature about outcomes.

A retrospective pre- and immediate post-survey design with an intervention (video and written education and resource distribution) in between was utilized with a follow-up survey. The primary research objectives were whether viewing educational videos led to change in self-reported likelihood of select maternal behaviors. Other objectives were whether demographic characteristics were associated with self-reported likelihood of behaviors, and to assess the actual self-reported postpartum behavior.

Participants reported a change in likelihood in asking a WIC counselor for help (p < 0.001); talking with a provider about substance use (p = 0.014), postpartum depression (p < 0.001) and birth control (p = 0.025); and using the baby box as a sleepibution may be beneficial in other cities.
The program positively impacted self-reported likelihood of several health behaviors. A community-driven approach to maternal education and resource distribution may be beneficial in other cities.
Panax notoginseng PnMYB2 is a transcriptional activator of primary and secondary cell wall formation by promoting the PCW-specific gene CesA3 and key lignin biosynthetic gene CCoAOMT1, respectively. R2R3-MYB transcription factors play important roles in regulation secondary cell wall (SCW) formation. However, there are few reports on the functions of MYB transcription factors which involved in both primary cell wall (PCW) and SCW formation. Here, we isolated an R2R3-MYB transcription factor, PnMYB2, from Panax notoginseng roots which are widely used in Chinese traditional medicines and contain abundant cellulose and lignin. The expression pattern of PnMYB2 was similar to the accumulation pattern of cellulose and lignin contents in different organs. PnMYB2 localized in the nucleus and may function as a transcriptional activator. Overexpression of PnMYB2 in Arabidopsis thaliana enhanced cellulose and lignin biosynthesis, and remarkably increased thickness of PCW and SCW in the stem of transgenic plants comparrase reporter assays and electrophoretic mobility shift assays (EMSA) results verified that PnMYB2 could bind and activate the promoters of AtCesA3 and PnCesA3, which are the PCW-specific cellulose biosynthetic genes, and AtCCoAOMT1 and PnCCoAOMT1, which are the key lignin biosynthetic genes. It is unknown if foveal hypoplasia in full-term born children differs in structure and function from that observed in children born preterm. We compared macular structure and visual function in children with history of prematurity and full-term children diagnosed with foveal hypoplasia.

We compared three groups of subjects (3-18years old) (1) full-term hypoplasia (FH, n = 56, gestational age ≥ 36weeks); (2) preterm hypoplasia (n = 57, gestational age ≤ 31weeks, birth weight ≤ 1500g); (3) control (n = 54), full-term normal. Using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography volume-scan images, macular structure within 3mm of Early-Treatment-Diabetic-Retinopathy-Study circle was segmented. Total, inner, and outer foveal thickness of right eyes were compared. Foveal hypoplasia was graded according to the Leicester Grading System.

The mean total foveal thickness in micrometers was 263 ± 19 for the control, 299 ± 30 for the full-term hypoplasia, and 294 ± 28 for the preterm hypoplasia groups (F = 33, p < 0.001). Foveal inner retinal layer thickness differed among groups (p < 0.001), but not in the outer layers (p = 0.10). The full-term hypoplasia group had significantly thicker foveal inner layers (p < 0.05) and greater frequency of higher-grade hypoplasia than the preterm hypoplasia group. To assess the clinical features, treatment factors, and long-term visual and anatomical outcomes of optic disc pit maculopathy (ODPM) in Korean patients.

Consecutive patients diagnosed between January 2000 and September 2020 were retrospectively reviewed. The primary outcome was best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and anatomical changes (determined by macular thickness reduction and fluid resorption). Secondary outcomes included factors associated with poor visual outcomes (> 3-line decrease or < 20/200 vision).

Of the 24 eyes (24 patients, mean age, 42.8years) in this study, two peak incidence groups were noted children younger than 14years (six patients; mean age, 9.7years) and middle-aged adults (18 patients; 53.8years). There were no significant differences between groups in terms of clinical features, treatment, and outcomes (P > 0.05). To objectively evaluate changes in lens densitometry in eyes with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (n-AMD) treated with repeated intravitreal ranibizumab injections during a 12-month period and to compare the results with those in untreated healthy fellow eyes and healthy control eyes.

In this prospective study, the 36 treated eyes and the 37 untreated fellow eyes of 38 patients with n-AMD and the 32 control eyes of 32 healthy individuals were analyzed. Lens densitometry was evaluated using the Scheimpflug imaging. All data in both groups regarding lens densitometry were recorded at baseline and 12months.

The mean densitometry of zone 1 in the treated eyes of patients had increased significantly at 12months compared with the baseline (baseline 9.3 ± 1.5, 12months 11.9 ± 1.7, p = .004) and was significantly greater than those measurements in the fellow eyes (9.8 ± 1.6 p = .02) and control eyes (9.6 ± 1.9, p = .01) at 12months as well. There were no significant differences in terms of densitometry values between the fellow and control eyes at baseline and 12months (for all, p > .05).

To summarise different patient-centred care approaches that can be used in ophthalmology and review their effectiveness.

An Entrez Pubmed search on publications concerning different patient-centred care was performed on September 7, 2021. Articles on animal research, non-English language and review articles were excluded after manually screening by two authors.

A total of 16 articles were reviewed after curation by the authors for relevance. Patient-centred care has advantages in improving disease knowledge, enhancing doctor-patient communications and improving mental well-being of patients. Various methods including intensive patient education, patient-centred communication techniques during consultations, personal disease records, education programme for caregivers, on-site ocular care for residential care home resident and shared medical appointments can be used to enhance patient-centred care.

Current strategies in patient-centred care in ophthalmology were found to be useful. However, they have not been widely practised and more studies would be required generate an evidence-based recommendation for future use.

To investigate the epidemiology and clinical characteristics of infants presenting with conjunctival, palpebral, or orbital congenital choristomas (dermolipomas, epidermoids, and dermoid cysts) and children undergoing surgery for congenital choristomas in the ocular adnexa.

We reviewed the medical files of congenital choristomas in children seen in The Capital Region of Denmark during a 5-year period (2014-2018). Children (< 18years) were divided into two groups those referred < 1year of age (Group I) and those undergoing surgery to remove the lesion (Group II). Group I was used to calculate a population-based incidence of congenital choristomas by comparing our data to birth statistics from the Danish Medical Birth Registry.

A total of 97 children were included, 43 in Group I and 70 in Group II (including 16 patients from Group I). The total incidence of congenital choristomas was 1 in 2537 live born children. Most lesions were palpebral choristomas (27/43, 63%) located in the superotemporal region (17/27, 63%), followed by the superonasal region (7/27, 26%). The main reasons for surgical removal of a congenital choristoma were growth (28/70, 40%) or cosmesis (25/70, 36%).

Often existing health economic models are applied in other countries and settings than those where they were developed. This practice requires assessing the transferability of a model developed from one setting to another. We evaluate the transferability of the MICADO model, developed for the Dutch 2007 setting, in two different settings using a range of adjustment steps. MICADO predicts micro- and macrovascular events at the population level.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy has demonstrated clinical success in treating haematologic malignancies but has not been effective against solid tumours thus far. Trop2 is a tumour-related antigen broadly overexpressed on a variety of tumours and has been reported as a promising target for pancreatic cancers. Our study aimed to determine whether CAR T cells designed with a fully human Trop2-specific single-chain fragment variable (scFv) can be used in the treatment of Trop2-positive pancreatic tumours.

We designed Trop2-targeted chimeric antigen receptor engineered T cells with a novel human anti-Trop2 scFv (2F11) and then investigated the cytotoxicity, degranulation, and cytokine secretion profiles of the anti-Trop2 CAR T cells when they were exposed to Trop2 + cancer cells in vitro. We also studied the antitumour efficacy and toxicity of Trop2-specific CAR T cells in vivo using a BxPC-3 pancreatic xenograft model.

Trop2-targeted CAR T cells designed with 2F11 effectively killed Trop2-positive pancreatic cancer cells and produced high levels of cytotoxic cytokines in vitro. In addition, Trop2-targeted CAR T cells, which persistently circulate in vivo and efficiently infiltrate into tumour tissues, significantly blocked and even eliminated BxPC-3 pancreatic xenograft tumour growth without obvious deleterious effects observed after intravenous injection into NSG mice. Moreover, disease-free survival was efficiently prolonged.

This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the benefits and risks associated with the DPE technique for labor analgesia. Randomized trials comparing DPE analgesia with EP analgesia for labor pain relief were systematically searched in the database of Medline, Embase, Cochrane Controlled Trials Register, Web of Science, and China Biology Medicine till 1st August 2021. The primary outcome was the percentage of patients with satisfactory pain relief following DPE or EP analgesia, which was defined as visual analog scale (VAS) pain scores ≤ 3/10 (or 30/100) measured 10 min and 20 min after initiation of labor analgesia. Totally ten trials with 1099 patients were included in this review. DPE technique increased the percentage of patients with VAS pain score ≤ 3/10 (or 30/100) both at 10 min (RR 1.43; 95% CI 1.17, 1.74; p  less then  0.001; I2 = 0%) and 20 min (RR 1.13; 95% CI 1.04, 1.22; p = 0.005; I2 = 0%) after labor analgesia. No adverse event was found with DPE analgesia. We conclude that compared with EP analgesia, DPE analgesia is beneficial for labor pain relief by shortening the time to achieve satisfactory pain control. Meanwhile, DPE analgesia is not associated with increased adverse maternal/fetal events.
Survival rates after colorectal and anal cancer are increasing and more patients have late complications to treatment. This represents a clinical field under development, and we have established a specialized clinic for late complications after colorectal and anal cancer. With this paper, we want to give our experiences and present the organizational setup with a nurse as the primary contact person.

We have established a multidisciplinary clinic for the treatment of late complications and the clinic is organized with specialized nurses as the front persons. The structure includes a stepwise increase in expertise level when needed, and the patient has one common entry regardless of symptoms. Initial screening is performed by an electronic questionnaire which is followed up by a consultation with the nurse. The nurse can provide primary treatment according to local algorithms developed in the clinic and refer the patient to more specialized care if needed.

Experiences from the first year of service show that more than half of the patients needs this and wants consultation in the late complication clinic. We also found that most of the consultations were performed successfully by phone instead of by physical visits, and the most common clinical problem was bowel symptoms including diarrhea and urge.

Perceived injustice is a novel psychosocial construct which reflects negative cognitive appraisals of blame, unfairness, and the severity and irreparability of one's loss. Experiences of injustice are increasingly recognised as a key determinant of recovery outcomes in healthcare. The aim of this study was to explore the impact of perceived injustice on psychological outcomes amongst a group of cancer patients and survivors who received false-negative smear results under a National Cervical Cancer Screening Programme (CervicalCheck).

Women who received false-negative smear results who were involved in the CervicalCheck controversy in Ireland completed online measures of perceived injustice (IEQ), psychological distress (depression and anxiety as measured by theHADS), and satisfaction with care (PSCC) (n = 144).

Rates of psychological distress in this sample were high, with 76% scoring in the clinical range for anxiety, 51% in the clinical range for depression, and 88% in the clinical range for perceivedddressing issues of perceived injustice in the psychosocial and rehabilitative care of cancer patients may support the early identification of those at risk of significant psychological distress and enhance intervention success. Implications for policy and practice in healthcare are discussed.
Enteral immunonutrition (EIN) has been extensively applied in cancer patients; however, its role in esophageal cancer (EC) patients receiving esophagectomy remains unclear. We performed this network meta-analysis to investigate the impact of EIN on patients undergoing surgery for EC and further determine the optimal time of applying EIN.

We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane library, and China National Knowledgement Infrastructure (CNKI) to identify eligible studies. Categorical data was expressed as the odds ratio with 95% confidence interval (CI), and continuous data was expressed as mean difference (MD) with 95% CI. Meta-analysis with head-to-head approach and network meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the impact of EIN on clinical outcomes using RevMan 5.3 and ADDIS V.1.16.8 software. The surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) was calculated to rank all nutritional regimes.

Total 14 studies involving 1071 patients were included. Meta-analysis with head-to-head approach indicated no difference between EIN regardless of the application time and standard EN (SEN); however, subgroup analyses found that postoperative EIN was associated with decreased incidence of total infectious complications (OR = 0.47; 95%CI = 0.26 to 0.84; p = 0.01) and pneumonia (OR = 0.47; 95%CI = 0.25 to 0.90; p = 0.02) and shortened the length of hospitalization (LOH) (MD =  - 1.01; 95%CI =  - 1.44 to - 0.57; p < 0.001) compared to SEN, which were all supported by network meta-analyses. Ranking probability analysis further indicated that postoperative EIN has the highest probability of being the optimal option in terms of these three outcomes.

Postoperative EIN should be preferentially utilized in EC patients undergoing esophagectomy because it has optimal potential of decreasing the risk of total infectious complications and pneumonia and shortening LOH.

A detailed literature search to understand the role of RB1 in adipogenesis revealed that the nature of the RB1 inactivation (in vivo/in vitro) led to differences in adipogenesis. The majority of these studies were animal-based, and the only study in humans employed an in vitro mode of RB1 inactivation. To overcome these differences and lack of human studies, we sought to explore the role of RB1 in adipogenesis using orbital adipose mesenchymal stem cells (OAMSCs) from patients with retinoblastoma that innately carry a heterozygous RB1 mutation. We hypothesized that these patient-derived RB1 mutant OAMSCs can model in vivo RB1 inactivation in humans. Our study revealed increased adipogenesis with a bias toward brown adipogenesis in the RB1 mutant in addition to an increased number of adipocytes in the mitotic phase.The Himalayan mountains are early indicators of climate change, wherein slight changes in climate can lead to a drastic variation in faunal diversity, distribution, invasion of fauna into higher altitudes, rapid population growth, shortening of life cycle and increased number of overwintering species. The insects best represent the faunal diversity. In recent years, due to variation in pattern of rainfall and temperature regimes, several insect pests have moved northwards and are posing great threat to hill agriculture. Few among them are greenhouse whiteflies, thrips and mites in protected cultivation system; blister beetles on flowers of cereals, pulses and oilseeds; invasive insect pests like fall armyworm of maize and tomato pin worm and sporadic pests like grasshoppers that are reaching a status of major key pest in various crops. Keeping in mind the phenomenon of climate change and associated changes in pest population, the present article focuses on emerging insect pest problems in cereals, millets, pulses, oilseeds and vegetables of Indian Himalayas, along with their changing population density with respect to different climatic parameters, the per cent increase in the pest damage over the years and their potential of gaining the status of major pests in near future and causing huge economic losses to hill agriculture.The pupil responds to a salient stimulus appearing in the environment, in addition to its modulation by global luminance. These pupillary responses can be evoked by visual or auditory stimuli, scaled with stimulus salience, and enhanced by multisensory presentation. In addition, pupil size is modulated by various visual stimulus attributes, such as color, area, and motion. However, research that concurrently examines the influence of different factors on pupillary responses is limited. To explore how presentation of multiple visual stimuli influences human pupillary responses, we presented arrays of visual stimuli and systematically varied their luminance, color, and set size. Saliency level, computed by the saliency model, systematically changed with set size across all conditions, with higher saliency levels in larger set sizes. Pupillary constriction responses were evoked by the appearance of visual stimuli, with larger pupillary responses observed in larger set size. These effects were pronounced even though the global luminance level was unchanged using isoluminant chromatic stimuli. Furthermore, larger pupillary constriction responses were obtained in the blue, compared to other color conditions. Together, we argue that both cortical and subcortical areas contribute to the observed pupillary constriction modulated by set size and color.We track and analyze the re-situation of scientific knowledge in the field of human population genomics ancestry studies. We understand re-situation as a process of accommodating the direct or indirect transfer of objects of knowledge from one site/situation to (one or many) other sites/situations. Our take on the concept borrows from Mary S. Morgan's work on facts traveling while expanding it to include other objects of knowledge such as models, data, software, findings, and visualizations. We structure a specific case study by tracking the re-situation of these objects between three research projects studying human population diversity reported in three articles in Science, Genome Research and PLoS Genetics between 2002 and 2005. We characterize these three engagements as a unit of analysis, a "skirmish," in order to compare (a) the divergence of interests in how life-scientists answer similar research questions and (b) to track the challenging transformation of workflows in research laboratories as these scientific objects are re-situated individually or in bundles. Our analysis of the case study shows that an accurate understanding of re-situation requires tracking the whole bundle of objects in a project because they interact in particular key ways. The absence or dismissal of these interactions opens the door to unforeseen trade-offs, misunderstandings and misrepresentations about research design(s) and workflow(s) and what these say about the questions asked and the findings produced.
Foot-ankle offset (FAO) is a three-dimensional (3D) biometric measurement of hindfoot alignment (HA) measured on images from weight-bearing computed tomography (WBCT). link2 Our aim was to investigate its distribution in a large cohort of patients, hypothesizing that threshold FAO values in valgus or varus could be identified as markers for increased risk of associated pathologies.

Prospective, monocentric, level II study including 125 subjects (250 feet) undergoing bilateral WBCT [58.4% female; mean age, 54years (18-84)]. Patients were clinically assessed and pathologies were classified according to anatomic location (valgus- or varus associated). HA was measured using FAO on 3D datasets and tibio-calcaneal angles (TCA) on two-dimensional Saltzman-El-Khoury views. Threshold FAO values and area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUC) were calculated for predicting increased risk of medial or lateral pathologies.

Mean FAO was 1.65% ± 4.72 and mean TCA was 4.15° ± 7.67. Clinically, 167 feet were normal, 33 varus and 50 valgus with FAO values of 1.71% ± 3.16, -4.96% ± 5.30 and 5.79% ± 3.77, respectively. Mean FAO was 0.99% ± 3.26 for non-pathological feet, -2.53% ± 5.05 for lateral and 6.81% ± 2.70 for medial pathologies. Threshold FAO values of -1.64% (51.4% sensitivity, 85.1% specificity, AUC = 0.72) and 2.71% (95% sensitivity, 82.8% specificity, AUC = 0.93) best predicted the risk of lateral and medial pathology, respectively.

Patients with FAO between -1.64% and 2.71% had the least risk of degenerative foot and ankle pathology. This interval could be considered a target for patients undergoing realignment procedures.

A "safe zone" for Foot Ankle Offset was described between -1.64% and 2.71%, for which the risk of foot and ankle pathologies is lower.

Biological therapies are gaining relevance in the management of CRSwNP with few adverse events reported. Among these, dupilumab, an anti-IL4-Ra monoclonal antibody, is frequently associated with hypereosinophilia (HE) which usually remains silent and progressively resolves, although some cases of systemic involvement occurs. The aim of this paper is to describe our experience and propose a management flowchart for HE during therapy with dupilumab.

Patients with CRSwNP who satisfied EPOS2020 criteria for biological therapies were included in this prospective study. Each case was discussed in a multidisciplinary meeting with subsequent prescription of dupilumab; all patients were candidates to follow-up bi-monthly for 6months, while additional blood tests were scheduled in the event of HE.

A total of 21 patients with a mean age of 48.4years were enrolled. Of these, 15 of 21 presented an asthma comorbidity and 9 of 21 ASA sensitivity. Four patients (19%) developed HE with AEC > 1.5 × 10
/L, whereas it occurred in 9.5% (two patients) if considered AEC > 3 × 10
/L. No cases of hypereosinophilic syndrome were recorded. Following our decision-making flowchart, two patients received short-term corticosteroid therapy, whereas the other two were only eligible for closer follow-up.

It is a broad-spectrum antibacterial pigment with various important biological activities such as anti-tumor, antiviral, and antioxidative effects. The newly discovered violacein operon vioABCDE was identified in the genome of the extremophile Janthinobacterium sp. B9-8. The key enzyme-encoding genes were cloned to construct the multigene coexpression plasmids pET-vioAB and pRSF-vioCDE. The violacein biosynthesis pathway was heterologously introduced into engineered Escherichia coli VioABCDE and VioABCDE-SD. The factors affecting violacein production, including temperature, pH, inoculum size, carbon and nitrogen source, precursor, and inducers were investigated. The violacein titer of VioABCDE-SD reached 107 mg/L in a two-stage fermentation process, representing a 454.4% increase over the original strain. The violacein operon from B9-8 provides a new microbial gene source for the analysis of the violacein synthesis mechanism, and the constructed engineering E. coli strains lay a foundation for the efficient and rapid synthesis of other natural products.Key points• The newly discovered violacein operon vioABCDE was identified in the genome of the extremophile Janthinobacterium sp. B9-8.• The violacein synthesis pathway was reconstructed in E. coli using two compatible plasmids.• A two-stage fermentation process was optimized for improved violacein accumulation.Poly(β-L-malic acid) (PMLA) is a water-soluble, biodegradable, and biocompatible polymer with broad prospective applications and can be hydrolyzed to produce widely used acidulant L-malic acid. In order to meet an increasing demand of PMLA, we employed two effective cell-recycling strategies to produce PMLA from raw cassava hydrolysate by Aureobasidium pullulans ZD-3d. In fed-batch fermentation with raw cassava hydrolysate, 101.9 g/L PMLA was obtained with the productivity and yield of 0.77 g/L/h and 0.40 g/g, respectively. Further, three times of membrane filtration-based cell recycling fermentation was carried out, with a high productivity and yield of 1.04-1.64 g/L/h and 0.5-0.84 g/g achieved, respectively. While harnessing centrifugation-based cell recycling fermentation for five times, the productivity and yield approached 0.98-1.76 g/L/h and 0.78-0.86 g/g, respectively. To our knowledge, the processes showed the highest average PMLA productivity compared with others using low-cost biomass, which offered efficient and economical alternatives for PMLA production. KEY POINTS • PMLA production from raw cassava hydrolysate by Aureobasidium pullulans was studied • High PMLA productivity and yield were obtained via two cell recycling strategies • The highest average PMLA productivity from low-cost biomass to date was achieved.To meet requirements in air quality monitoring, sensors are required that can measure the concentration of gaseous pollutants at concentrations down to the ppb and ppt levels, while at the same time they exhibiting high sensitivity, selectivity, and short response/recovery times. Among the different sensor types, those employing metal oxide semiconductors (MOSs) offer great promises as they can be manufactured in easy/inexpensive ways, and designed to measure the concentration of a wide range of target gases. MOS sensors rely on the adsorption of target gas molecules on the surface of the sensing material and the consequent capturing of electrons from the conduction band that in turn affects their conductivity. Despite their simplicity and ease of manufacturing, MOS gas sensors are restricted by high limits of detection (LOD; which are typically in the ppm range) as well as poor sensitivity and selectivity. LOD and sensitivity can in principle be addressed by nanostructuring the MOSs, thereby increasing their porosity and surface-to-volume ratio, whereas selectivity can be tailored through their chemical composition. In this paper we provide a critical review of the available techniques for nanostructuring MOSs using chemiresistive materials, and discuss how these can be used to attribute desired properties to the end gas sensors. We start by describing the operating principles of chemiresistive sensors, and key material properties that define their performance. The main part of the paper focuses on the available methods for synthesizing nanostructured MOSs for use in gas sensors. We close by addressing the current needs and provide perspectives for improving sensor performance in ways that can fulfill requirements for air quality monitoring.
Perineural spread (PNS) of tumors from pelvic malignancies is a rare phenomenon but constitutes an important differential diagnosis of lumbosacral plexopathy (LSP). Herein, we describe the clinical and imaging features of patients with LSP due to PNS of pelvic malignancies along with a literature review.

We retrospectively reviewed 9 cases of LSP caused by PNS of pelvic malignancy between January 2006 and August 2021, and all clinical and imaging parameters were recorded in detail. Clinical symptoms and signs of patients were described and listed in the order in which they occurred. The results of imaging test were analyzed to describe specific findings in LSP caused by PNS.

This study enrolled nine adult patients (mean age, 50.1years). Two cases initially presented as LSP and were later diagnosed with pelvic malignancy. link2 Pain in the perianal or inguinal area preceded pain at the extremities in six patients. Neurogenic bladder or bowel symptoms developed in five patients. On the magnetic resonance imaginCT should be considered for patients with LSP to rule out neoplastic LSP.
Pituitary tumors may cause compression of the optic chiasm, resulting in decreased visual acuity. Therefore, decompression of the optic chiasm is a major goal of surgical treatment in such patients. Quantitative pupillometry has been used in various clinical settings for assessing the optic system but has not been applied in patients with pituitary tumors. This study aimed to evaluate the potential of this technique to improve treatment modalities in patients undergoing surgical resection of pituitary tumors.

Pupillometry using the automated NPi 200® Pupillometer was performed in seven patients who underwent surgical resection of large pituitary tumors at the University of Heidelberg in 2018. The neurological pupil index (NPi) was assessed preoperatively and postoperatively, and correlations with visual acuity and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings regarding optic chiasm compression were determined.

All patients experienced visual disturbance due to a large pituitary tumor. link3 The NPi was < 4.0 iurgery.To demonstrate that the amount of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) and the freeze-dried viability of probiotics are correlated. Three strains of probiotics including Lactiplantibacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Bifidobacterium bifidum were subjected to environmental challenges, such as temperature, pH, and carbon dioxide. The results indicated that the challenges could stimulate the EPS synthesis of the probiotics. The experimental correlation between the amount of synthesized EPS and the freeze-dried survival rate was also analyzed, and the viability of each of the three strains was represented by the following functions in which the equation of L. plantarum is y = - 0.0336x2 + 2.7059x - 14.849 with R2 = 0.9699, the B. bifidum's equation is y = - 0.0554x2 + 2.6243x - 13.654 with R2 = 0.9554, and the L. acidophilus's one was y = 0.0346x2 + 0.5862x - 9.1339 with R2 = 0.9733. This could be a new approach to determining the freeze-dried viability of probiotic strains based on the measured EPS content.
Existing evidence estimates a twofold risk of venous thromboembolisms (VTEs) if tourniquet is applied during total knee arthroplasties (TKAs). However, this estimate relies on multiple trials with a low number of patients analyzing VTEs as a secondary outcome. We hypothesized that tourniquet-use increases the risk of symptomatic VTE within 90days of contemporary primary TKA and aimed to use the extensive Danish healthcare registries to quantify this risk.

Prospectively collected registry data from Danish patients receiving primary TKAs between 2014 and 2018 were included in the study. Patients were divided by tourniquet-use during surgery. By merging information from four nationwide registries, the study included 44 baseline characteristics with the potential to confound the association between tourniquet-use and VTE. Incidence rate and odds ratios were used to compare the risk of VTE within 90days of surgery.

19,804 patients of whom 10,111 (51%) were operated with tourniquet and 9693 (49%) without were included. The mean age (SD) was 70 (9) in both groups and 62% were females in the tourniquet group compared with 61% in the no tourniquet group. link3 The groups were similarly comparable across all other baseline characteristics except type of post-operative thromboprophylaxis, type of anaesthesia, implant fixation, and year of surgery. The 90-days incidence of VTE was 0.77% (95% CI 0.60-0.94) in the tourniquet group compared with 1.10% (95% CI 0.90-1.31) in the no tourniquet group. Following adjustment for the unbalanced confounders, the odds ratio for VTE was 0.77 (95% CI 0.54-1.10) associated with tourniquet-use.

In contemporary TKAs the rate of VTE within 90days is low and not significant altered by tourniquet-use. Thus, tourniquet can safely be applied during primary TKA-surgery without jeopardizing the risk of postoperative VTE.

II-prospective cohort study.The β3-agonist mirabegron is thought to induce relaxation of the detrusor muscle, contributing to the improvement of overactive bladder symptoms. There has been recent interest in purposing mirabegron as a medical expulsive therapy drug to improve the passage of smaller kidney stones by relaxing the ureteral smooth muscles. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of mirabegron on the activity of the ureter. Additionally, we investigated the receptor and mechanisms through which mirabegron exerts these effects. In vitro agonist-induced responses of isolated porcine distal ureteral tissues were measured in the absence and presence of mirabegron in organ bath experiments. The responses were expressed as frequency, area under the curve and maximum amplitude. Mirabegron at concentrations of 100 nM and lower failed to suppress phenylephrine- or 5-HT-induced contractions in the porcine ureteral strip. Mirabegron at 1 μM and 10 μM produced a rightward shift of phenylephrine concentration-response curves in these tissues. This effect of mirabegron (10 μM) was not present in 5-HT concentration-response curves. The mirabegron effect on phenylephrine-induced contractions was also not abolished by β-adrenoceptor antagonist SR 59230A (10 μM), β-adrenoceptor antagonist propranolol (10 μM), α2-adrenoceptor antagonist yohimbine (30 nM), and nitric oxide synthase inhibitor L-NNA (10 μM). The present results show that mirabegron suppresses ureteral contractile responses in the porcine ureter via α1-adrenoceptor antagonism, since their effects were not present when the tissues were contracted with 5-HT. Furthermore, the inhibitory effects by mirabegron were not affected by β3-adrenoceptor antagonists.Mexico City has one of the highest incidences of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) globally, with patients showing low survival, and high relapse rates. To gain more insight into the molecular features of B-ALL in Mexican children, we isolated CD10 + /CD19 + precursor B lymphoblasts from four bone marrow and nine peripheral blood samples of B-ALL patients using a fluorescence-activated cell sorting protocol. The global gene expression profile (BM vs PB) revealed 136 differentially expressed genes; 62 were upregulated (45.6%) and 74 were downregulated (54.4%). Pearson's correlation coefficient was calculated to determine the similarity between pre-B lymphoblast populations. We selected 26 highly significant genes and validated 21 by RT-qPCR (CNN3, STON2, CALN1, RUNX2, GADD45A, CDC45, CDC20, PLK1, AIDA, HCK, LY86, GPR65, PIK3CG, LILRB2, IL7R, TCL1A, DOCK1, HIST1H3G, PTPN14, CD72, and NT5E). The gene set enrichment analysis of the total expression matrix and the ingenuity pathway analysis of the 136 differentially expressed genes showed that the cell cycle was altered in the bone marrow with four overexpressed genes (PLK1, CDC20, CDC45, and GADD45A) and a low expression of IL7R and PIK3CG, which are involved in B cell differentiation.
