The inflammasomes promote pro-caspase-1 cleavage, leading to processing of pro-interleukin (IL)-1β into its mature form. We investigated the role of the IL-1β and nucleotide binding oligomerization domain-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome in gastric injury in mice receiving water-immersion restraint stress (WIRS), focusing on the cyclooxygenase (COX)-2/prostaglandin (PG) E
axis.

To induce gastric injury, the mice were placed in a restraint cage and immersed in the water bath to the level of the xiphoid process. Protein levels of mature caspase-1 and IL-1β were assessed by western blotting.

Water-immersion restraint stress induced gastric injury with increase in IL-1β expression by activation of NLRP3 inflammasome. Exogenous IL-1β attenuated the injury, whereas anti-IL-1β neutralizing antibody and IL-1β receptor antibody aggravated it. NLRP3

mice enhanced the injury with reducing of mature IL-1β, and this aggravation was reduced by exogenous IL-1β supplementation. Toll-like receptor 4
mice were hyporesponsive to WIRS in terms of mature IL-1β production. Rabeprazole attenuated the injury with preventing inflammasome activation. WIRS injured the stomach with promotion of COX-2 mRNA and PGE
production, and exogenous IL-1β enhanced these molecules, while IL-1β immunoneutralization exerted opposite effect. PGE
supplementation abolished the hypersensitivity in NLRP3
and caspase-1
mice through negative regulation of inflammatory cytokines.

Because of that, the aim of this study was the evaluation of two drying methods (hot-air drying and freeze-drying) in its bioactive and physicochemical composition for its preservation. The best performances of antioxidant capacity were 62 μmol TE g-1 (ORAC) and 14.21 μmol TE g-1 (DPPH), being higher compared with other vegetable sources. Its protein (5.33 %), fiber (5.58 %) and K (2.82 mg g-1 ) content also stands out. β-Carotene retention was 35.02 and 23.25 % after freeze drying and hot-air, respectively. Freeze-drying seems a good strategy for digüeñe, bioactive compounds, color and structure were better maintained. This work represents the first characterization of dehydrated digüeñe, constituting approaches for its valorization and use in the food industry.
DNA methyltransferases (DNMTs) take on a relevant role in epigenetic control of cancer proliferation and cell survival. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the establishment and maintenance of DNA methylation in human cancer remain to be fully elucidated. This study was to investigate that how DNMT1 affected the biological characteristics of colorectal cancer (CRC) cells via modulating methylation of microRNA (miR)-152-3p and thymosin β 10 (TMSB10) expression.

DNMT1, miR-152-3p, and TMSB10 expression, and the methylation of miR-152-3p in CRC tissues and cells were detected. SW-480 and HCT-116 CRC cells were transfected with DNMT1 or miR-152-3p-related sequences or plasmids to explore their characters in biological functions of CRC cells. The binding relationship between DNMT1 and miR-152-3p and the targeting relationship between miR-152-3p and TMSB10 were analyzed. The tumor growth was also detected in vivo.

Upregulated DNMT1, TMSB10, reduced miR-152-3p, and methylated miR-152-3p were detected in CRC tissues and cells. Silenced DNMT1 or upregulated miR-152-3p reduced TMSB10 expression and suppressed CRC progression and tumor growth. Moreover, elevated DNMT1 could reverse the effect of miR-152-3p upregulation on CRC development and tumor growth. DNMT1 maintained methylation of miR-152-3p. TMSB10 was the direct target gene of miR-152-3p.

Milk fat globule membrane (MFGM), which contains abundant polar lipids and glycoproteins, can narrow the gap in growth and development between breast-fed and infant-formula-fed babies. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of MFGM supplementation in infant formula on intestinal epithelium maturation, tight junctions, and gut colonization in rat pups.

Sprague Dawley rat pups consume one of the five diets from postnatal day 8, including rat breastfeeding (BF), infant formula (IF), and infant formula containing MFGM at 260mg kg
body weight (BW), 520mg kg
BW, or 1040mg kg
BW. Results show that MFGM supplementation in infant formula can facilitate intestinal mucosal barrier maturation via promoting intestinal proliferation and differentiation, and increasing tight junction proteins. In addition, compared with that of the IF pups, the intestinal flora composition of MFGM-supplemented pups is more similar to that of BF pups.

Anhedonia, the loss of interest and pleasure, is a core symptom of depression and is associated with deficits in reward processing. Behavioural Activation for depression may address this symptom due to its focus on identifying and increasing intrinsically rewarding activities.

This was a qualitative study employing reflexive thematic analysis (TA).

Participants were eight treatment-seeking adolescents with a recent primary diagnosis of depression who had received eight sessions of Brief Behavioural Activation. Qualitative semi-structured interviews were conducted after treatment was completed.

Three main themes emerged (1) connecting, reviewing, and taking action 'focus on getting better rather than what you're feeling'; (2) struggles, restrictors, and motivators 'it seemed really unachievable'; and (3) feeling, acting, or seeing things differently 'looking forwards in a more healthy way'.

Both specific Brief Behavioural Activation strategies (e.g., connecting with values) and more generic therapeutic strategies (e.g., self-monitoring) may be helpful in treating the symptom of anhedonia in adolescent depression. Motivational aspects of anhedonia, as well as anxiety, fatigue, and academic pressures act as potential barriers to recovery. This highlights the need for psychological treatments for adolescent depression to include explicit and targeted strategies to enhance motivation.

The aim is to compare existing data on the efficiency of these devices. A literature search was conducted using online libraries. Inclusion criteria included randomized control trials or comparative human studies published after the year 2000. A systematic review was conducted for the five individual devices with a more detailed comparison of the biochemistry for the SPAD and MARS systems. Eighty-nine patients were involved in the review comparing SPAD and MARS. Results showed that there was an average reduction in bilirubin (-53 μmol/L in MARS and -50 μmol/L in SPAD), creatinine (-19.5 μmol/L in MARS and -7.5 μmol/L in SPAD), urea (-0.9 mmol/L in MARS and -0.75 mmol/L in SPAD), and gamma-glutamyl transferase (-0.215 μmol/L·s in MARS and -0.295 μmol/L·s in SPAD) in both SPAD and MARS. However, there was no significant difference between the changes in the two systems. This review demonstrated that both MARS and SPAD aid recovery of ALF. There is no difference between the efficiency of MARS and SPAD. Because of the limited data, there is a need for more randomized control trials. Evaluating cost and patient preference would aid in differentiating the systems.
