Regardless of ROIs or images, the peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR), structural similarity (SSIM), mean square error (MSE) and mean absolute error (MAE) of the generated images are greatly improved compared to those of the input data. In addition, based on scores from physicians, the average score for the coronary artery artifact correction of the output images is higher.
This study demonstrates that the dual-zone GAN has the excellent ability to correct motion artifacts in the coronary arteries and maintain the overall characteristics of CCTA clinical images.

Since the stair artifacts may affect non-destructive testing (NDT) and diagnosis in the later stage, an applicable model is desperately needed, which can deal with the stair artifacts and preserve the edges. However, the classical total variation (TV) algorithm only considers the sparsity of the gradient transformed image. The objective of this study is to introduce and test a new method based on group sparsity to address the low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) problem.
This study proposes a weighted total variation with overlapping group sparsity model. This model combines the Gaussian kernel and overlapping group sparsity into TV model denoted as GOGS-TV, which considers the structure sparsity of the image to be reconstructed to deal with the stair artifacts. On one hand, TV is the accepted commercial algorithm, and it can work well in many situations. On the other hand, the Gaussian kernel can associate the points around each pixel. Quantitative assessments are implemented to verify this merit.
Numerical simulations are performed to validate the presented method, compared with the classical simultaneous algebraic reconstruction technique (SART) and the state-of-the-art TV algorithm. It confirms the significantly improved SNR of the reconstruction images both in suppressing the noise and preserving the edges using new GOGS-TV model.
The proposed GOGS-TV model demonstrates its advantages to reduce stair artifacts especially in low SNR reconstruction because this new model considers both the sparsity of the gradient image and the structured sparsity. Meanwhile, the Gaussian kernel is utilized as a weighted factor that can be adapted to the global distribution.

Digital radiography (DR) is grayscale adjustable and it can be unclear whether an acquired DR image is captured with the minimum radiation dose required. It is necessary to make an image of the amount of noise when taken at a lower dose than the acquired image, without increased exposure.
To examine whether an image of unacquired dose can be created from two types of dose DR images acquired using a phantom.
To create an additive image from two images of different doses, the pixel value of one image is multiplied by a coefficient and added to the other. The normalized noise power spectra (NNPS) of the normal image and the additive image with the same signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) are compared. The image noise of the unacquired doses is estimated from the graph changes of the pixel values and standard deviations of two images. The error between the SNR of the image obtained by changing the dose and the estimated SNR is measured. We propose a multiplication coefficient calculation formula that theoretically adjusts the additive image to the target SNR. The SNR error of the image created based on this formula is measured.
The NNPS curves of the additive and normal images show a difference on the high frequency side. According to the statistics considering the preset of mAs value, there is no significant difference at 85%. The SNR estimation error is approximately 1%. The SNR error of the additive image created based on the formula is approximately 5%.
The noise of the image of unacquired dose can be estimated, and the additive image adjusted to this value can be considered equivalent to the image taken at the actual dose.

Vestibular drop attacks (VDA), also called Tumarkin otolith crises as a complication of Ménière's disease (MD) were first described in 1936. Nevertheless, a clearer understanding of their prevalence and manifestations is needed.
of this review is to determine the frequency, correlates and consequences of VDA in MD.
Three databases were searched (i.e., MEDLINE, PubMed and Google Academia). A total of 1,791 references were identified, of which 18 studies were considered eligible. There was a large variation in the definition of VDA used in the studies.
The frequency of VDA in MD leading to a fall to the ground varied from 3 to 19% in 9 hospital-based studies. In studies where a less restrictive definition of VDA included attacks with postural perturbation, tripping and near-to-fall situations was used the prevalence ranged from 50 to 72%. The pooled frequency of VDA leading to fall to the ground was 8% (95% CI 4 to 12%) in hospital-based studies. In these studies, VDA often occurred in severe and advanced MD whereas in cohort studies such connection was not found. Co-morbidity with migraine increased the likelihood of VDA occurrence in MD. In 3 studies syncope was recorded in connection to VDA with falls. In terms of clinical manifestation, audiometry, MRI, vestibular evoked muscle response measures indicated endolymphatic hydrops with involvement of the otolith system. The hearing loss was more pronounced, and balance was worse in MD patients with VDA than in those without. Injury associated with VDA was reported in only one study.
VDA is a common phenomenon in MD, occurring even in mild MD and complicated with syncope. Some preliminary evidence suggests that VDA may lead to severe injuries.

Retinoblastoma (RB) is the most common childhood eye cancer. Chemotherapeutic drugs such as etoposide used in RB treatment often cause massive side effects and acquired drug resistances. Dysregulated genes and miRNAs have a large impact on cancer progression and development of chemotherapy resistances.
This study was designed to investigate the involvement of retinoic acid receptor alpha (RARα) in RB progression and chemoresistance as well as the impact of miR-138, a potential RARα regulating miRNA.
RARα and miR-138 expression in etoposide resistant RB cell lines and chemotherapy treated patient tumors compared to non-treated tumors was revealed by Real-Time PCR. Overexpression approaches were performed to analyze the effects of RARα on RB cell viability, apoptosis, proliferation and tumorigenesis. Besides, we addressed the effect of miR-138 overexpression on RB cell chemotherapy resistance.
A binding between miR-138 and RARα was shown by dual luciferase reporter gene assay. The study presented revealed that RARα is downregulated in etoposide resistant RB cells, while miR-138 is endogenously upregulated. Opposing RARα and miR-138 expression levels were detectable in chemotherapy pre-treated compared to non-treated RB tumor specimen. buy Elacestrant Overexpression of RARα increases apoptosis levels and reduces tumor cell growth of aggressive etoposide resistant RB cells in vitro and in vivo. Overexpression of miR-138 in chemo-sensitive RB cell lines partly enhances cell viability after etoposide treatment.
Our findings show that RARα acts as a tumor suppressor in retinoblastoma and is downregulated upon etoposide resistance in RB cells. Thus, RARα may contribute to the development and progression of RB chemo-resistance.

The tumor stage represents the single most important prognostic factor for colorectal cancer (CRC), although more accurate prognostics remain much needed. Previously, we identified CA125 as an independent significant prognostic factor, which we have further validated along with CEA, CA19-9, and CA242 in a large cohort of CRC patients.
Using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays, we analyzed preoperative serum samples in 322 CRC patients operated on between 1998 and 2003.
Using the Spearman's rho model, we calculated the correlation between our previous findings on MUC16 and CA125, for which the correlation coefficient was 0.808 (p < 0.001). The Cox regression analysis of the linear and logarithmic values of CEA, CA125, CA242, and CA19-9 identified only CA125 (hazard ratio [HR] 1.03; 95% confidence interval [95% CI] 1.02-1.04; p < 0.001) as significant when using the linear values. Survival among CRC patients with a high CA125 level was poor compared with CRC patients with a low CA125 level (HR 2.48; prognostic marker than both CEA and CA19-9. We recommend including both CA125 and CA242 in prognostic clinical trials among CRC patients.
Oral infections associate statistically with cancer.
We hypothesized that certain periodontal microorganisms might specifically link to malignancies in general and set out to investigate this in our ongoing cohort study.
A sample of 99 clinically examined patients from our cohort of 1676 subjects was used to statistically investigate the associations between harboring periodontal microorganisms Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (A.a), Porphyromonas gingivalis (P.g), Prevotella intermedia (P.i), Tannerella forsythia (T.f) and Treponema denticola (T.d). We used oral infection indexes and the incidence figures of malignancies as registered in 2008-2016 in the Swedish National Cancer Register.
The pathogen A.a showed strong association with malignancy in 32 out of the 99 patients while P.g and P.i were more prevalent among patients without malignancy. In principal component analyses, A.a appeared in the strongest component while the second strongest component consisted of a combination of T.f and T.d. The third component consisted of a combination of P.g and P.i, respectively. Of basic and oral health variables, gingival index appeared to be the strongest expression of inflammation (Eigen value 4.11 and Explained Variance 68.44 percent).
The results partly confirmed our hypothesis by showing that harboring certain periodontal bacteria might link to malignancy. However, the associations are statistical and no conclusions can be drawn about causality.
