This review discusses the management of common adverse events (AEs) in patients with advSM who participated in phase 2 clinical studies that led to the approval of midostaurin.

COVID-19 social isolation restrictions have accelerated the need to adapt clinical assessment tools to telemedicine. Remote adaptations are of special importance for populations at risk, e.g. older adults and individuals with chronic medical comorbidities. In response to this urgent clinical and scientific need, we describe a remote adaptation of the T-RES (Oron etal. 2020; IJA), designed to assess the complex processing of spoken emotions, based on identification and integration of the semantics and prosody of spoken sentences.

We present iT-RES, an online version of the speech-perception assessment tool, detailing the challenges considered and solution chosen when designing the telehealth tool. We show a preliminary validation of performance against the original lab-based T-RES.

Retrospective study.

The aim of this study was to assess long-term radiographic and clinical outcomes in Lenke 5C adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients after posterior selective fusion.

Lenke 5C AIS patients who underwent posterior selective thoracolumbar/lumbar (TL/L) fusion in our hospital from January 2007 to January 2010 were recruited. Radiographic parameters were measured preoperatively and at the 3-month, 1-year, 2-year, 5-year, and 10-year follow-ups. The SRS-22 (Scoliosis Research Society) questionnaire was used to assess the clinical outcomes.

We included 37 patients who underwent posterior selective TL/L fusion surgery in our study, and the mean follow-up time was 11.26 ± 0.85 years. The average preoperative Cobb angles of the thoracic and TL/L curves were 24.0 ± 9.0° and 45.4 ± 6.3°, respectively, which were corrected to 12.2° and 12.4° at the 3-month follow-up postoperatively, with correction losses of 2.2° and 1.5° at the 10-year follow-up. In the sagittal plane, the degree of tn the PJA was highly significant in the postoperative period, and it showed an increasing trend until the 2-year follow-up.
Retrosepctive analysis of prospectively collected data from the multicentre Canadian Surgical Spine Registry (CSORN).

Degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) is the most common cause of spinal cord dysfunction in North America. Few studies have evaluated return to work (RTW) rates after DCM surgery. Our goals were to determine rates and factors associated with postoperative RTW in surgically managed patients with DCM.

Data was derived from the prospective, multicenter Canadian Spine Outcomes and Research Network (CSORN). From this cohort, we included all nonretired patients with at least 1-year follow-up. The RTW rate was defined as the proportion of patients with active employment at 1 year from the time of surgery. check details Unadjusted and adjusted analyses were used to identify patient characteristics, disease, and treatment variables associated with RTW.

Of 213 surgically treated DCM patients, 126 met eligibility, with 49% working and 51% not working in the immediate period before surgery; 102 had 12-month fed with RTW in this analysis.
Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) provides safe and effective insomnia care without the risk of harm associated with sleeping medications. Unfortunately, few patients with insomnia engage with CBT-I, with most using sedative hypnotics instead. This study conducted focus groups with patients with insomnia who were treated with sleeping medication, including older adults, women, and patients with chronic pain. The goal was to explore the perspectives of high-risk, CBT-I naïve patients on increasing access and engagement with CBT-I.

Participants included 29 Veterans with insomnia who had been prescribed sleeping medication in the last year and had not previously engaged with CBT-I.

Semi-structured 90-min focus groups were used to 1) explore messages and appropriate channels for a CBT-I social marketing campaign, 2) determine patient preferences for self-management CBT-I tools, and 3) determine patient opinions on alternative provider-delivered forms of CBT-I. Thematic analysis was used to identify conceptual themes.

Three main themes were identified. First, patient education is necessary but not sufficient. Patients recommended multiple outreach attempts through multiple channels to motivate tired and overwhelmed insomnia patients to engage with CBT-I. Second, patients gravitated toward a stepped-care approach. Most would start with self-management CBT-I tools, moving on to provider-delivered CBT-I if needed. Finally, patients appreciated being able to choose from a menu of CBT-I delivery options and would use multiple options simultaneously.

These findings suggest promising opportunities to increase the use of CBT-I for high-risk patients through patient education and provision of self-management CBT-I tools.

Computed tomography (CT) has become an important technique for assessing skeletal muscle mass. Low skeletal muscle mass (LSMM) is considered an unfavorable factor for postoperative complications in patients with gastric cancer (GC).

Patients who underwent laparoscopic gastrectomy for GC were included. Skeletal muscle mass at the third lumbar vertebra (L3) level was measured by preoperatively using CT. The patients were divided into an LSMM group and a non-LSMM group and the intergroup differences were analyzed. Furthermore, we divided the LSMM group into mild and severe LSMM subgroups. The study also analyzed the influence of obesity-related LSMM on postoperative complications.

A total of 409 patients were enrolled; of them, 265 had LSMM and 41 had severe LSMM. LSMM was associated with age, body mass index, and Nutritional Risk Screening 2002 score. In the multivariate analysis, LSMM was not related to postoperative complications. Further analysis revealed that severe LSMM was a risk factor for postoperative complications. The study also found that the risk of postoperative complications was significantly increased in patients with obesity-related LSMM.

LSMM was not significantly correlated with postoperative complications. Severe LSMM and obesity-related LSMM are unfavorable factors for postoperative complications with GC after gastrectomy.
