The strategy of T. latifolia in Se phytoremediation consisted of a phytostabilization and accumulation of Se predominantly in roots. Se plant root uptake was promoted by synergistic effects of Cu, Pb, Zn, and Cd while Co, Fe, Mn, Ni, Na, K, and Mg had antagonistic effects. Se plant uptake was also governed by sediment characteristics mainly pH, total Se, and iron concentration. Se speciation results demonstrated that the most accumulated Se species by T. latifolia roots were selenite and selenomethionine with average concentrations of 2.68 and 2.04 mg/kg respectively while other Se species were the most translocated (average translocation factor of 1.89). Se speciation in roots was positively correlated with sediment pH, organic matter, electrical conductivity, and iron concentration. This study confirms deploying corrective measures for mine effluent treatment before discharge in a sediment-plant environment to protect living organisms from toxic effects. KT 474 nmr T. latifolia is recommended as a Se-hyperaccumulator to be used for mine soil phytoremediation in cold regions in Canada.
To investigate the clinical and pathological characteristics of lupus nephritis (LN) patients with serositis and analyse the relationship between serositis and hyperuricemia (HUA) in LN patients in northeast China.

The data of patients with LN diagnosed by renal biopsy in our hospital from April 2013 to May 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. The differences between the non-serositis and serositis groups were compared by t tests and Chi-square test. Factors with P < 0.05 in the univariate analyses were investigated further using binary logistic regression analysis to investigate the independent risk factors of serositis in patients with LN.

LN patients with serositis were more likely to have fever, hypertension, neuropsychiatric and hematological involvement than those without serositis (P < 0.05). Compared with the non-serositis group, LN patients with serositis were prone to have HUA, high D-dimer, high triglycerides, and had significant differences in the levels of plasma albumin (Alb), estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C-reactive protein, complement C3, 24-h urinary protein, pathological types, pathological score and SLEDAI score. Logistic regression analysis showed that HUA was one of risk factors for serositis in LN patients. The rate of complete remission in LN patients with serositis was significantly lower (P < 0.05) and the rate of no remission and mortality were significantly higher (P < 0.05) than LN patients without serositis.

A retrospective cohort study utilizing the 2012-2016 National Inpatient Sample of hospitalizations in the United States of America. The International Classification of Diseases, 9th and 10th Revision, Clinical Modification codes were used to identify deliveries, inpatient long-acting reversible contraception (IPP LARC), and postpartum tubal ligation (PPTL). We conducted univariable and multivariable logistic regression to examine associations between demographic, clinical, hospital and geographical characteristics with likelihood of LAPM including IPP LARC and PPTL.

Our sample included 3,642,328 unweighted deliveries. The rate of IPP LARC increased from 34.6 to 54.9 per 10,000 deliveries (58.7%), while the rate of PPTL utilization decreased from 719.5 to 671.8 per 10,000 deliveries (6.6%) over the study period. Real-time PCR was used for the mRNA expression levels of miR-126 and Phosphatase and Tensin Homolog (PTEN). Western blot was used for the protein expression levels of PTEN, PI3K, AKT, and mTOR. The cultured cells were identified as mouse VSMCs using digital microscopes based on artificial intelligence. Compared with the normal group, the expression of miR-126 and PTEN mRNA in the model group were significantly increased and reduced, respectively. Compared with the model group, the expression level of miR-12solic acid can inhibit the proliferation and migration of VSMCs in aortic aneurysm mice through the miR-126/PTEN/PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway. Furthermore, PTEN gene and miR-126 negatively regulate PI3K/AKT/mTOR and PTEN/PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway, respectively .In the absence of any neuropsychiatric condition, older adults may show declining performance in several cognitive processes and among them, in retrieving and producing words, reflected in slower responses and even reduced accuracy compared to younger adults. To overcome this difficulty, healthy older adults implement compensatory strategies, which are the focus of this paper. We provide a review of mainstream findings on deficient mechanisms and possible neurocognitive strategies used by older adults to overcome the deleterious effects of age on lexical production. Moreover, we present findings on genetic and lifestyle factors that might either be protective or risk factors of cognitive impairment in advanced age. We propose that "aging-modulating factors" (AMF) can be modified, offering prevention opportunities against aging effects. Based on our review and this proposition, we introduce an integrative neurocognitive model of mechanisms and compensatory strategies for lexical production in older adults (entitled Lexical Access and Retrieval in Aging, LARA). The main hypothesis defended in LARA is that cognitive aging evolves heterogeneously and involves complementary domain-general and domain-specific mechanisms, with substantial inter-individual variability, reflected at behavioral, cognitive, and brain levels. Furthermore, we argue that the ability to compensate for the effect of cognitive aging depends on the amount of reserve specific to each individual which is, in turn, modulated by the AMF. Our conclusion is that a variety of mechanisms and compensatory strategies coexist in the same individual to oppose the effect of age. The role of reserve is pivotal for a successful coping with age-related changes and future research should continue to explore the modulating role of AMF.Biobanking refers to the systematic collection, storage, and distribution of pre- or post-mortem biological samples derived from volunteer donors. The demand for high-quality human specimens is clearly demonstrated by the number of newly emerging biobanking facilities and large international collaborative networks. Several animal species are relevant today in medical research; therefore, similar initiatives in comparative physiology could be fruitful. Dogs, in particular, are gaining increasing attention in translational research on complex phenomena, like aging, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases. Therefore, biobanks gathering and storing dog biological materials together with related data could play a vital role in translational and veterinary research projects. To achieve these aims, a canine biobank should meet the same standards in sample quality and data management as human biobanks and should rely on well-designed collaborative networks between different professionals and dog owners. While efforts to create dog biobanks could face similar financial and technical challenges as their human counterparts, they can widen the spectrum of successful collaborative initiatives towards a better picture of dogs' physiology, disease, evolution, and translational potential. In this review, we provide an overview about the current state of dog biobanking and introduce the "Canine Brain and Tissue Bank" (CBTB)-a new, large-scale collaborative endeavor in the field.In this paper, we employed data from the 2011 Miami-Dade Health Survey (n = 444) to formally test whether the association between religious struggles and psychological distress is mediated by psychosocial resources. We found that religious struggles were associated with lower levels of social support, self-esteem, the sense of control, and self-control. We also observed that religious struggles were associated with higher levels of non-specific emotional distress, depression, and anxiety, but not somatization. In this paper, we develop and examine an analogous index for categorical item level data modeled with item response theory (IRT). The proposed Tucker-Lewis index for IRT (TLIRT) is based on Maydeu-Olivares and Joe's (2005) [Formula see text] family of limited-information overall model fit statistics. The limited-information fit statistics have significantly better Chi-square approximation and power than traditional full-information Pearson or likelihood ratio statistics under realistic situations. Building on the incremental fit assessment principle, the TLIRT compares the fit of model under consideration along a spectrum of worst to best possible model fit scenarios.
