Is Best Coffee Machine The Best There Ever Was?
The Best Coffee Machines For Home

There's no one-size-fits-all coffee maker. We've put together our top choices, ranging from a superautomatic that grinds your beans and packs them into semiautomatics that give you the best control over your espresso.

The Breville Oracle Touch is the perfect blend between automation and the need to be able to master the art of espresso-making. It's the best bean-to-cup machine we've found.

1. Rocket Appartamento

Rocket Appartamento is a fantastic choice for those who want to make espresso at home without having to compromise on quality. This espresso machine with a small footprint was created for those with limited counter space. It has a great build quality and a compact footprint. It comes with a 1.8 milliliter copper heat exchange boiler and commercial E61 Group Head so you can steam your milk and brew your coffee at the same at the same time.

The machine looks fantastic and features a round design on the side panel with engravings of steam and hot water spouts. This is a new take on the classic look of Rocket and is already impressive for a compact machine. It also has the black gauge of pressure in the boiler to indicate when the boiler is ready for use.

The water reservoir and drip tray are smaller on this model than others. You'll need to be careful when emptying and re-filling the machine. This is especially true if you use it frequently. This is a trade-off that comes with having less footprint. This is not an issue that is specific to this model.

This machine can easily handle the demands of your coffee. That being said, we would suggest investing in a quality grinder, such as the Baratza Sette Gigante to ensure consistency and better flavor. You can also use the machine in conjunction with a Rocket Portafilter to increase tamping.

Rocket Appartamento, as a prosumer machine, can create delicious drinks and it is easy to create Latte Arts. However, it's worth noting that the machine isn't made for novices, and there is some learning curve for those who are upgrading from appliance-grade machines. The heat exchange boiler could be a bit difficult to manage and you'll have to master the basics of cooling flushes.

Both the Lelit Bianca and the Rocket Appartamento offer the option of connecting to a water supply which means you'll always have cold, fresh filtering water available for your drinks. The latter, however, comes with a 2.25-liter water tank that is more difficult to refill than some of its competitors.

2. Lavazza A Modo Mio Jolie

As you might expect from a Lavazza machine this one has been made with quality in mind. It is quick to reach the brewing temperature, allowing you to make your first cup of coffee in less than 35 minutes. The water tank is also fast and easy to refill, with the lid detaching completely to reveal a large opening. It can be filled with tap water if you like.

This is the smallest machine in the Lavazza A Modo Mio range, but it still is a powerful machine. It's priced at less than PS100 at retail and is much less expensive than the Nespresso Essenza or similar machines from SMEG or Desea. The Jolie is a great alternative for those who do not have the space or funds for traditional espresso machines however, they nevertheless want to drink an authentic Italian espresso.

The Jolie is extremely simple to use and takes up only a tiny amount of counter space. You only need to press a single button to activate the machine, then again to begin dispensing your chosen brew. The button has a backlight so that you can see the amount you've consumed. You can also stop the process if you want to drink the pod in smaller amounts.

This model does not come with a steam wand, however, you can add creamy froth to your milk using an optional milk frother. The machine is quite quiet as well, and can be used in a small workspace or in a flatshare kitchen without disturbing anyone else.

The pods are not expensive, but they are available in a variety of blends that can be used by anyone from the mildest espresso drinker to the most demanding. You can find them in many supermarkets, as well as regular grounds coffee and coffee beans. You can also buy Lavazza A Modo Mio Compatible pods on the internet.

The Jolie and Milk is a stylish capsule machine with an integrated milk warmer and a frother. It comes with a 75cm power cord and plug, a quick-guide and warranty card, as well as a test box of nine Lavazza pods: six roasted (two Qualita Rossa, two Lungo Dolce and two Delizioso) and two decaffeinated (Dek Cremoso). The machine itself is small enough to be kept on a flat surface or slipped under the cupboard.

3. Breville BES870XL

At first glance, the Breville Barista Express looks like an espresso machine that's not within the budget of many average consumers. If you're willing take the time to learn how to use it, this is an excellent do-it-all home espresso maker that performs better than some of the more expensive models available. It's among the best priced in its class, and is particularly suitable for beginners who don't have an espresso machine yet--which can easily cost them another $100 or more.

The model is priced lower than the top-of-the-line Breville Oracle (the most expensive at $2199) However, it's a good choice for baristas working on a tight budget. It comes with a variety of customizable features and even an integrated burr mill, which makes it more affordable. It's also a single boiler that means it can only be used for steaming or brewing at the same time.

Breville, an incredibly newcomer to the market for espresso machines, has swiftly earned a reputation for its high-quality appliances. This machine is no exception, and it has just enough control to let aspiring baristas improve their skills without spending hundreds more than necessary.

The unit does not come without its flaws. The hopper is situated on the side, not the top of the model. It's not a huge issue, but it can be a problem if you wish to dispense multiple shots at once. The rear-facing position of the tank makes it difficult to determine how much liquid remains.

If you're willing some time to learn how to use the Breville Barista Express then it's an excellent appliance for any espresso lover at home. The only drawback is the cost, which can be a nagging issue for certain buyers. For those looking for a lower-cost option, check out our review of the Gaggia Classic or the La Pavoni Impresso. Both machines are similar in capability and provide a bit more control than the Barista Express. However, they cost less than the price.

4. OXO Brew 9 Cup

A high-tech smart coffee machine with a user-friendly interface that makes great coffee. Its sleek stainless steel design and backlit LED screen add a stylish design to your kitchen. It has a single dial that allows you to program the number of cups. There are two options: 5-9 cups and 2-4 cups. Its brewing technique is similar to pour-over, which most coffee enthusiasts believe makes the most flavorful coffee. The water is heated to the perfect temperature and then evenly poured over the coffee grounds with shower heads. The coffee is then brewed inside the double-walled thermal carafe for upto 60 minutes. The pause and pour function lets you remove the carafe while brewing to fill your own cup. The machine stops brewing and shows a red light for the carafe on its LED interface until you return it. then it resumes and completes brewing.

The OXO 9-Cup coffee maker comes SCAA certified, which means that it meets the organization’s strict technical standards. Its brew cycle is about longer than the Bodum BISTRO and the Technivorm Moccamaster KBT 741, but it offers more control over temperature, brewing time, and quality.

In our testing we found that the OXO Brew 9-Cup brewed an excellent drip coffee and a full-carafe of coffee in 7 minutes and 41 seconds. That's a little longer than the 6 minutes or less the Bonavita Connoisseur and the Moccamaster require, but it falls within the range of time that experts in the field recommend for a great cup of drip.

It is also necessary to grind your own beans prior to making. You can select an manual grinder or a more automated model, such as the Baratza Encore. It has multiple grind settings, and it has a hopper that can be used for whole beans.

The only issue with this product is that it's not dishwasher safe. This could be a concern for some users. The stainless steel is still easy to clean by hand, however. The OXO 9-Cup is an excellent contender for the best drip coffee maker due to its sleek design and simple to use interface.
