Foraging may, therefore, serve as a useful behavioral predictor of range use in free-range broiler chickens. These findings can, ultimately, serve as a foundation to increase range use and improve chicken welfare.A sustainable ruminant production system ensures economically viable livestock systems that meet the current and future demands of animal products as well as the environmental safety of current and future generations. The study analyzed the determinants of ruminant farmers' use of sustainable production practices for climate change adaptation and mitigation in Enugu State, Nigeria. Multistage sampling procedure was used to select ninety six (96) ruminant farmers that constituted the sample for the study. Semi-structured interview schedule with open ended questions was used in data collection. Data were analyzed using multiple regression and Pearson Moment Correlation statistics. Access to veterinary services (t = 2.056, p = 0.044), monthly household income (t = 3.582, p = 0.001) and annual income from ruminant production (t = -2.635, p = 0.011) were socio-economic factors that significantly influenced use of sustainable practices. The adjusted R- square implies that the three factors were able to explain 24% of variance in use of sustainable practices. There is a significant positive correlation (r = 0.426, p = 0.000) between knowledge level of farmers and their use of sustainable production practices. Schemes for financial inclusion such as payment for ecosystem services can spur farmers to adopt mitigation strategies. Improved climate change knowledge can enhance ruminant farmer's resilience to the increasing impacts of climate change.This study examined the effects of dietary Eucommia ulmoides leaf extract (ELE) supplements on carcass traits and lipid metabolism in growing-finishing pigs. A total of 144 crossbred (Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire) piglets with an average initial weight of 10.11 ± 0.03 kg were randomly allotted to four treatment groups, each with six replicates and six piglets per replicate. Each group of pigs was fed a basal diet or a diet supplemented with increasing levels of ELE (0.1, 0.2, or 0.3%). The results showed that adding ELE had no negative effect on the growth performance of pigs. Dietary supplements of 0.1% ELE significantly increased carcass weight (p less then 0.01), dressing percentage (p less then 0.01), carcass length (p less then 0.05), and eye muscle area (p less then 0.05). Compared with the control group, a 0.2% ELE supplement significantly increased (p less then 0.01) the levels of adiponectin, insulin-like growth factor 1, and hormone-sensitive lipase and lipoprotein lipase activity in the serum. Histological examination showed that ELE inhibited fat deposition in the backfat tissue. Lipid metabolism-related biochemical indices and mRNA expression levels were improved after supplementing diets with ELE. Moreover, all three levels of ELE dramatically upregulated (p less then 0.05) the protein levels of p-AMPK-α and p-ACC. In summary, adding ELE to pig diets could improve the carcass traits of growing-finishing pigs and exert a lipid-lowering effect by activating the AMPK-ACC pathway and regulating mRNA expression levels related to lipid metabolism. Supplementing the diet with 0.1-0.2% ELE is the optimal range to reduce fat deposition in pig backfat tissue.The dynamic changes in protein expression are well known to be required for oocyte meiotic maturation. Although proteomic analysis has been performed in porcine oocytes during in vitro maturation, there is still no full data because of the technical limitations at that time. Here, a novel tandem mass tag (TMT)-based quantitative approach was used to compare the proteomic profiles of porcine immature and in vitro mature oocytes. The results of our study showed that there were 763 proteins considered with significant difference-450 over-expressed and 313 under-expressed proteins. The GO and KEGG analyses revealed multiple regulatory mechanisms of oocyte nuclear and cytoplasmic maturation such as spindle and chromosome configurations, cytoskeletal reconstruction, epigenetic modifications, energy metabolism, signal transduction and others. In addition, 12 proteins identified with high-confidence peptide and related to oocyte maturation were quantified by a parallel reaction monitoring technique to validate the reliability of TMT results. The aims of this study were to compare the characteristics of men and women hospitalized for peripheral artery disease (PAD), their cardiovascular and limb outcomes, and their 1-year mortality. The study is a prospective registry collecting data about all consecutive patients hospitalized for PAD within the vascular department of the tertiary center Georges-Pompidou European Hospital (Paris, France). Patients were required to have one of three inclusion criteria previous revascularization of the lower limb or any lower limb artery occlusion due to an atherosclerotic vascular disease or hemodynamic evidence of PAD. Exclusion criteria were patients with lower extremity arterial occlusion due to another cause. All patients were folity, cardiovascular outcomes, limb revascularization or amputation did not differ between men and women, 1-year after hospitalization for PAD although the latter were older, less smoker and had less coronary artery disease. Due to the small size of this cohort, larger studies and future research are needed to better understand sex-specific mechanisms in the pathophysiology and natural history of PAD.
The relationship between galectin-3 (Gal-3) and coronary artery disease (CAD) has not been fully elucidated.

This study aimed to determine the relationship between the presence and severity of CAD and serum Gal-3 levels.

Three-hundred thirty-one consecutive CAD patients were enrolled as the study group. An additional 62 patients without CAD were enrolled as the control group. Serum Gal-3 levels were separately compared between the non-CAD and CAD groups, among the stable CAD and Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) groups, and between CAD patients with low and high SYNTAX scores (SSs). The 1-year cumulative rate of major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) was also compared among ACS patients by Gal-3 levels.

This narrative review summarizes findings on the association between childhood emotional neglect and CVD and potential underlying mechanisms. These mechanisms may involve biological factors (i.e., elevated inflammation, autonomic dysregulation, dysregulated HPA axis, and altered brain development), psychological variables and mental health (i.e., depression and anxiety), and health behaviors (i.e., eating behavior, smoking, drug use, physical activity) and interpersonal aspects. Evidence suggests that emotional neglect is associated with CVD and CVD risk factors such as obesity, diabetes, inflammation, a dysregulated stress system, altered brain development, depression and other psychological abnormalities (i.e., emotion-regulation difficulties), interpersonal difficulties, and lack of health behaviors. Specific subtypes of childhood maltreatment may be associated with CVD via different mechanisms. This review further encompasses clinical suggestions, identifies research gaps, and has implications for future studies. We aimed to investigate a correlation between PE severity and Lp(a) levels.

We performed a retrospective data analysis from our medical records of PE patients admitted to the University Hospital Graz, Austria. Patients with an Lp(a) reading within a 1-year interval before and after PE diagnosis were included. In accordance with the 2019 ESC guidelines for the diagnosis and management of acute PE, severity assessment was carried out classifying patients into four groups low risk (LR), intermediate low risk (IML), intermediate high risk (IMH) and high risk (HR). The study period of interest was between January 1, 2002 and August 1, 2020.

We analyzed 811 patients with PE, of whom 323 (40%) had low-risk PE, 343 (42%) had intermediate-low-risk PE, 64 (8%) had intermediate-high-risk PE, and 81 (10%) had high-risk PE, respectively. We did not observe an association between PE severity and Lp(a) concentrations.
