Image-guided surgery with ICG-p28 showed an over 6.6×10
-fold reduction in residual normalized tumour DNA at the margin site relative to control approaches (i.e., surgery with ICG or palpation/visible inspection alone), resulting in an improved tumour recurrence rate (92% specificity) in multiple breast cancer animal models independent of the receptor expression status. ICG-p28 allowed accurate identification of tumour cells in the margin to increase the complete resection rate.
Our simple and cost-effective approach has translational potential and offers a new surgical procedure that enables surgeons to intraoperatively identify tumour margins in a real-time, 3D fashion and that notably improves overall outcomes by reducing re-excision rates.

Biotechnological advances have introduced biological control agents in agriculture such as fungal-based biocontrol agents that use Beauveria and Metarhizium species as bioinsecticides. Keratitis and sclerokeratitis are the most frequent pathologies associated to Beauveria and Metarhizium infection that are the main entomopathogenic fungi used in biological control, although other clinical cases such as sinus, skin lesions, and disseminated infections have been reported. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/ABT-888.html Search of publications was carried out using the databases Scopus, Pubmed, ScienceDirect, MedLine Scielo. A total of 30 articles were retrieved from 1984 - 2021. From these, 17 keratitis and one sclerokeratitis clinical cases were related to Beauveria infection, while Metarhizium was linked to 13 keratitis cases and two sclerokeratitis clinical cases. Female sex predominated in both Metarhizium and Beauveria clinical cases, there was no significant difference in sclerokeratitis / keratitis by sex. Contact lenses use was a factor reported in 66.6% cases of infection with Metarhizium and 22.2% with Beauveria. The review of clinical cases of keratitis and sclerokeratitis related to Beauveria and Metarhizium suggests the need to consider entomopathogenic fungi in ocular pathologies and the risk that imply the misuse of contact lenses and agricultural/gardening activities.NTRK fusions are rare oncogenic drivers that occur across a range of pediatric cancers. These include infantile fibrosarcoma and secretory breast cancer in which such fusions are nearly pathognomonic, and a spectrum of more common pediatric cancers in which NTRK fusions occur at a lower frequency. Within the last 5 years, two TRK inhibitors, larotrectinib and entrectinib, have demonstrated histology-agnostic activity against NTRK fusion driven cancers and achieved FDA approval. Here the data supporting the use of these TRK inhibitors for the treatment of cancers harboring NTRK fusions is reviewed, with a particular focus on the pediatric experience. Mechanisms of acquired resistance to these first generation TRK inhibitors are discussed and investigational second generation TRK inhibitors that may overcome some of these mechanisms of resistance are highlighted.Neurotrophins and their related tyrosine kinase receptors (TRKs), encoded by the neurotrophic tyrosine receptor kinase genes NTRKs, play a crucial role in central nervous system development. Oncogenic NTRK gene fusion events have been identified in several cancer subtypes and cause constitutive activation of the TRK receptor, promoting tumorigenesis. While NTRK fusions are rare in cancers overall, they have been identified in appreciable frequency in certain CNS tumors subtypes recently. In other non-CNS neoplasms, the development of NTRK fusion directed therapies has been developed with TRK inhibitors showing promise in clinical trials. Given the difficulty in treating certain pediatric CNS tumors such as high grade gliomas, understanding NTRK fusions in pediatric CNS tumors may lead to more directed treatment and subsequent therapeutic benefit. This review examines the biology of NTRK fusions, the frequency and clinical significance in pediatric CNS tumors, and methods for detection of NTRK fusion in CNS tumors.
The present systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to summarize the findings of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the effect of tart and sweet cherries on systolic and diastolic blood pressure (SBP and DBP).
PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and Web of Science were searched to acquire the RCTs up to December 2020.
Seven RCTs comprising 201 participants were included. The meta-analysis showed that cherry supplementation does not lead to a significant decrease in SBP or DBP.
Incorporating cherries into the diet has no significant effect on blood pressure.

Asthma, one of the most common chronic diseases, has been reported to be associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. However, the link between asthma and HF has rarely been studied, and the possible mechanisms by which asthma affects HF are unclear. This study aimed to explore the influence of asthma on HF and the possible mechanisms. We analyzed data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and found a higher prevalence of HF among asthmatic individuals, and identified an independent association between HF and asthma. Subsequently, we produced mice with concurrent ovalbumin (OVA) sensitization-induced allergic asthma and angiotensin Ⅱ infusion-induced cardiac remodeling to explore the effect of asthma on cardiac remodeling in vivo. The results showed that OVA-induced asthma impaired heart function and aggravated cardiac remodeling in mice. We also found that OVA sensitization increased the expression levels of immunoglobulin E (IgE) in serum and IgE receptor (FcεR1) in the heart, and enhanced the activation of downstream signaling molecules of IgE-FcεR1 in the heart. Importantly, blockage of IgE-FcεR1 using FcεR1-deficient mice or an anti-IgE antibody prevented asthma-induced decline of cardiac function, and alleviated cardiac remodeling. These findings demonstrate the adverse effects of allergic asthma on the heart, and suggest the potential application of anti-IgE therapy in the treatment of asthma complicated with heart conditions.Duck circovirus disease (DuCVD), as an immunosuppressive disease, is a threat to the poultry industry. In order to diagnose this disease quickly and accurately, a real-time fluorescence-based recombinase-aided amplification (RF-RAA) method was established to detect duck circovirus (DuCV). The results showed that the quantity of amplification products was positively correlated with the value of fluorescence signal. Obvious detection results can be observed at 41°C after 15 min reaction. This method has good specificity and has no cross reaction with Muscovy duck parvovirus (MDPV), duck enteritis virus (DEV), fowl adenovirus (FAdV), porcine circovirus (PCV), and duck hepatitis A virus (DHAV). The sensitivity test showed that the minimum concentration of template detected by RF-RAA for DuCV was 10° copies/μL, and its sensitivity was 10 times higher than that of real-time fluorescence-based quantitative PCR (RFQ-PCR) and 10,000 times higher than that of polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Fifty-two clinical samples were detected by RF-RAA and RFQ-PCR, and the coincidence rate of the two methods was 98.08%. This method has the advantages of simple operation, good specificity and high sensitivity, and can be used for laboratory detection and clinical diagnosis of DuCV.
Although basal cell hyperplasia is a histologic hallmark of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), little is known about the capabilities of epithelial renewal and differentiation in the EoE inflammatory milieu. In murine esophageal epithelium, there are self-renewing and slowly proliferating basal stem-like cells characterized by concurrent expression of CD73 (5'-nucleotidase ecto) and CD104 (integrin β4). Here, we investigated CD73
CD104
cells within the basal population of human esophageal epithelium and clarified the biological significance of these cells in the EoE epithelium.
We performed flow cytometry on esophageal biopsy samples from EoE and non-EoE patients to determine the quantity of CD73
CD104
cells in the epithelium. Simulating the EoE milieu we stimulated primary patient-derived and immortalized cell line-derived esophageal organoids with interleukin (IL)4 and IL13 and analyzed by flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction. We perfoion in EoE could decrease the need for immune modulation and steroid therapy.
Apatinib exhibits the synergistic effect with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) though inhibiting the neoangiogenetic reaction caused by TACE. In this real-world study, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of TACE plus apatinib-combined therapy (ACT) in intermediate to advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients.
Data from 168 intermediate to advanced HCC patients who received TACE alone (N = 49) or TACE plus ACT (N = 119) were extracted. Besides, ACT was defined as apatinib with or without other therapy, such as arsenic trioxide, microwave ablation and radioactive seed implantation.
In TACE plus ACT group, the median overall survival (OS) was 30 months (95% confidence interval (CI) 24-40 months) with 1-year, 3-year and 5-year OS rate of 84.0%, 41.2% and 21.5%, respectively. While in TACE group, the median OS was only 14 months (95%CI 11-17 months) with 1-year, 3-year and 5-year OS rate of 55.1%, 18.4% and 16.1%, separately. By comparation, the OS was prolonged in TACE plus ACT group compared with TACE group (P<0.001). After adjusted by multivariate Cox's regression analysis, TACE plus ACT (vs. TACE) independently related to the longer OS (hazard ratio 0.504, P = 0.001). In TACE plus ACT group, the most frequent adverse events included hand-foot syndrome (95.8%), hypertension (95.8%), fatigue (90.8%), albuminuria (85.7%), anorexia (79.0%), diarrhea (66.4%), myelosuppression (58.8%), nausea/vomiting (49.6%) and abdominal pain (39.5%), besides, no grade 4 adverse events and treatment-related death occurred.
TACE plus ACT is a promising treatment choice for the intermediate to advanced HCC patients.

Long non-coding RNA plasmacytoma variant translocation 1 (lnc-PVT1) possesses a good ability to regulate inflammation as well as multiple organ injury via multiple pathways, and clinically exacerbates severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) via autophagy. This study aimed to further assess the correlation of lnc-PVT1 with inflammation, multiple disease assessment scales, and prognostication in acute pancreatitis (AP) patients.
Peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) samples were collected from 98 AP patients (within 24h after admission) and 50 healthy controls (HCs). lnc-PVT1 in PBMC samples was examined by reverse transcription-quantitive polymerase chain reaction. Multiple AP assessments, C-reactive protein (CRP) level, and in-hospital deaths were evaluated or recorded.
lnc-PVT1 was overexpressed in AP patients compared with HCs; it was also positively correlated with Ranson's score, acute pathologic and chronic health evaluation II (APACHE II) score, sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) score, and CRP level in AP patients.
