Neuropathic pain remains a clinical challenge with limited effective treatments. Previous studies have found that magnolol (Mag), an ingredient existing in some herbs, showed neuroprotective effect. However, it remains unclear whether Mag can alleviate neuropathic pain.

Chronic constriction injury (CCI) is used as the neuropathic pain model. Mice were randomly divided into 5 groups Sham, CCI, CCI + 5, 10, 30 mg/kg Mag groups. Thermal and mechanical paw withdrawal threshold were performed at baseline and on the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 14th days post-surgery. Lumbar spinal cord and blood samples were collected on the 14th day. Blood lipid profile, kidney and liver functions, as well as the activation of microglia were evaluated, along with the related signal pathway examined using multiple methods including immunohistochemistry, RT-PCR and Western blot.

Mag alleviated thermal and mechanical hypersensitivity in CCI mice. CCI activated microglia and upregulated the expression of P2Y12, while Mag inhibited microglial activation, and downregulated the expression of P2Y12. Mag also blocked the activation of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and other pain-related cytokines such as IL-6, TNF-α and IL-1β.

The findings indicate that Mag has antinociceptive effect on neuropathic pain, probably mediated through P2Y12 receptors and p38 MAPK mediated pathways. With its relatively safe profile, Mag may be a potential therapeutic agent for neuropathic pain.

Work-related musculoskeletal disorder is one of the most important public health problems throughout the world. However, there is a paucity of knowledge on work-related musculoskeletal disorders among bank staff in Ethiopia. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders and associated factors among bank staff in Jimma city, Ethiopia.

Institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted from July 20 to August 20, 2019. A simple random sampling technique was used. Data were collected by pre-tested interviewer-administered standardized Nordic musculoskeletal questionnaires. Data were entered into Epi Data version 3.1 and exported to SPSS version 20 for analysis. A logistic regression analysis was done. A variable having a p-value <0.25 in a bivariate analysis was taken into multivariate analysis to avoid the potential effects of confounders. Adjusted odds ratios (AOR) were calculated at a 95% confidence interval to see the strength of association. A signif's physical capability.
The prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders was common among bank staff. Preventive strategies such as using ergonomic guidelines and giving awareness on the effect of bad posture, avoiding prolonged working in the same position were recommended. Using ergonomic guideline is helpful to create a suitable working environment that fit employee's physical capability.
In a phase 3 study, galcanezumab significantly reduced the frequency of episodic cluster headache attacks across weeks 1-3 (primary endpoint) compared with placebo. However, multiple pain dimensions may contribute to the total burden of episodic cluster headache pain. This post hoc analysis assessed the impact of galcanezumab on the total pain burden of episodic cluster headache using a composite measure.

Patients with episodic cluster headache were randomized 11 to galcanezumab 300 mg or placebo once monthly for 8 weeks. Mean weekly total pain burden was calculated (daily cluster headache attack frequency × average duration × average pain severity summed over 7 days) using data collected in an electronic patient-reported outcomes diary. Change from baseline in weekly total pain burden across weeks 1-3 was compared between galcanezumab and placebo. To explore construct validity, mean weekly total pain burden scores were stratified by Patient Global Impression of Improvement (PGI-I) responses at the week 4 clinic visit.

The reduction from baseline in mean weekly total pain burden was significantly greater with galcanezumab (N=49) than with placebo (N=57) the least squares mean difference was -11.18 severity-weighted hours (p=0.035). Median weekly total pain burden decreased as PGI-I ratings improved, from 33.6 to 5.0 severity-weighted hours for patients who felt "very much worse" and "very much better," respectively.

Galcanezumab significantly reduced mean weekly total pain burden compared with placebo in patients with episodic cluster headache. The composite pain measure demonstrated construct validity. Total pain burden may provide a holistic measure of the pain of episodic cluster headache.

This study was designed to assess the levels of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in diabetes patients to determine their prognostic value in predicting the disease of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN).

We recruited 225 diabetes cases from the department of endocrinology of Anhui Provincial Hospital from August 2018 to October 2019. A total of 103 patients without diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) were followed up for 18 months, and the number of patients of newly diagnosed DPN was counted. According to the results of neuroelectrophysiological examination, these patients were divided into the diabetes mellitus (DM) without DPN group and the DM with DPN group. The general information and results of blood samples were collected. The collected data were compared between groups, and the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was drawn. The follow-up data were compared between groups and Binary Logistic regression analysis was performed.

Patients with DP more likely complicated with DPN. NLR and PLR could be used as predictors to help clinicians screening for DPN in different types of diabetes. For type 1 diabetes, if patients who were without DPN had higher NLR level, the risk of developing DPN in the future will be greatly increased.
To compare the clinical effects of local anesthesia (LA), general anesthesia (GA) and modified sensation-motion separation anesthesia (MA) in percutaneous endoscopic interlaminar discectomy (PEID) in the treatment of L5/S1 lumbar disc herniation (LDH) for the purpose of guiding junior surgeons.

Eighty-four patients with L5/S1 LDH underwent PEID using three anesthesia methods. Patients in the LA (26), GA (29) and MA (29) groups received a follow-up examination retrospectively. The general parameters, preparation and anesthesia duration, operative duration, recovery time, incidence of complications, ambulation time, length of hospital stay, incidence of severe complications, and reoperation rate were compared, and clinical outcomes were analyzed using a visual analog scale (VAS), the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), and the Short-Form Health Survey 36 (SF-36).

MA demonstrated obvious advantages over the other two methods with respect to operative duration and resulted in a better intraoperative experience than LA. The patients in the MA group required less time in bed postoperatively and shorter hospital stays than those in the GA group. The mean postoperative VAS, ODI and SF-36 scores were significantly better than the preoperative scores in all groups (P<0.05), but no significant differences in these scores were found among the three groups (P>0.05). Three cases (3/29) of nervous disorder occurred in the GA group. Sulfosuccinimidyl oleate sodium manufacturer Two patients (one in the GA group (1/29) and one in the LA (1/26) group) underwent revision surgery, with a total recurrence rate of 2.4% (2/84).

Due to its high safety and good tolerance by patients, MA is a suitable method for spinal surgeons who are inexperienced with PEID in the treatment of L5/S1 disc herniation.

The present study aims to observe the optic nerve fiber layer thickness and blood flow density in the papillary area and investigate the effects of axial length (AL) and the refractive state of the optic papilla blood flow density in children with different refractive conditions.

The present study was a clinical control study. The right eyes of 204 minors aged 6-17 years were studied. The eyes were divided into four groups according to myopic refractive states. OCTA analyzed the data to compare the radial peripapillary capillary (RPC) density and the difference in the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness adjacent to the optic papilla between the four refraction groups.

The intra-optic disc blood flow density was significantly and negatively correlated with the AL and was negatively correlated with the AL in the inferior temporal quadrants. The RNFL in the superior, nasal, and inferior quadrants was negatively correlated with the AL. The RNFL in the temporal quadrant was positively correlated with the AL.

Our present study revealed that aAs myopia increased and the AL grew in children, the blood density of the entire image of the optic papilla, in the optic disc, and the retinal capillaries in the inferior parapapillary and temporal quadrant would change significantly. With increasing AL, a significant decrease in the intra-disc and para-disc RNFL was observed in the superior, nasal, and inferior quadrants, while a substantial increase in RNFL was observed in the temporal quadrant.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the predictive value of transvaginal ultrasonography measurement of cervical length (CL) during the second trimester for spontaneous preterm birth.

Data from 1222 women with a single fetus pregnancy, who delivered at our hospital between March 2019 and May 2020, were retrospectively analyzed. CL was measured during the second trimester, with a length of <25 mm regarded as cervical shortening. The relationship between CL, cervical shortening, and pregnancy outcome was analyzed.

The incidence of spontaneous preterm birth and cervical shortening in the 1222 women was 7.3% (89/1222) and 0.33% (4/1222), respectively. The average CL during the second trimester was 37.9 ± 5.7 mm for the spontaneous preterm birth group and 39.3 ± 3.8 mm for those who gave birth at full term. Three of the four cases of cervical shortening resulted in a spontaneous preterm birth. This showed a predictive sensitivity of 3.33% and a specificity of 99.9%.

CL measurement during the second trimester can be used as a routine test to predict spontaneous preterm birth.
