This study aimed to assess the availability of retailer storefronts that continued to sell electronic nicotine/non-nicotine delivery systems (ENDS/ENNDS) in India, and characterise such retailers following the promulgation of 2019 Indian Ordinance and Act (Ordinance/Act) that prohibit ENDS/ENNDS nationwide.

Discreet observations were conducted of retailer storefronts across different socioeconomic zones in nine major cities of India (Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Delhi, Indore, Kolkata, Ludhiana, Raipur, and Ranchi) from 28 November 2019 to 22 January 2020 to identify the availability of ENDS/ENNDS (i.e. electronic cigarettes, e-cigarette liquid, e-cigarette accessories, heated tobacco products (HTPs), and HTPs accessories). We report the number and proportion (%) of retailers that sold ENDS/ENNDS. Other characteristics of the retailers are also described, including indirect evaluation of the retailer's awareness of the Ordinance/Act.

Of the 199 retailer storefronts visited, 37 (18.6%) sold ENDS/ENNDS and, therefore, did not comply with the Ordinance/Act. The highest availability of non-compliant retailers was in Kolkata (n=26; 83.9%). The majority of the non-compliant retailers were tobacco retailers (n=35; 94.6%), sold e-cigarettes (n=22; 59.5%), and e-cigarette accessories (n=24; 64.9%). Although many of the non-compliant retailers displayed their ENDS/ENNDS products (n=33; 89.2%) and did not feature health warnings related to ENDS/ENNDS (n=32; 86.5%) in the stores, nearly 90% (n=33) were aware of the Ordinance/Act.

Despite a nationwide ban, ENDS/ENNDS are still available in major cities in India, and concentrated in a particular city. Indian authorities should focus on law enforcement to ensure that the prohibition is effectively implemented.

Smoking continues to extract an unacceptably high toll in Ireland in terms of both mortality and morbidity. Therefore, attention needs to focus on examining pro-smoking influences on teenagers and young adults, as most smokers start smoking before the age of 21 years. Given that this critical period is one of identity formation and assertion of adulthood, it is useful to look at media representation of smoking. One form of increasingly pervasive media that may require further examination is that of the portrayal of smoking in graphic novels. The broad appeal of graphic novels has been well noted, particularly to those aged under 35 years.

This research examined a random selection of ten graphic novels chosen from the main library in a provincial Irish City. click here The novels were examined on a panel-by-panel basis for images of smokers. Smokers were coded by gender.

Analysis identified a total of 526 panels depicting smoking. Substantial variation was noted in the number of smoking images between novels, varying from 0 to 267. A dramatic difference in the number of male to female smokers was observed, the ratio being approximately 171.

Tobacco smoking may increase susceptibility to and severity of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This information may influence smoking cessation related beliefs in smokers.

Online questionnaires were answered from 26 March to 3 April 2020 in the Netherlands by 340 smokers willing to quit smoking. Beliefs regarding (quitting) smoking and (consequences of) the coronavirus are described and associations with motivation to quit due to the coronavirus are reported.

While 67.7% of the smokers indicated that the coronavirus did not influence the number of cigarettes smoked per day, 18.5% smoked less cigarettes and 13.8% smoked more cigarettes per day due to the coronavirus. One-third of the smokers were more motivated to quit smoking due to the coronavirus. Motivation to quit due to the coronavirus was positively associated with beliefs about the coronavirus as a serious threat, being at high risk of catching the coronavirus and developing severe illness, smokers being at higher risk than non-smokers, quitting smoking to reduce complaints, the social environment endorsing quitting, and perceived stress.

Subgroups of smokers may be receptive to smoking cessation advice due to COVID-19. Because of the measures taken to reduce the spread of the virus (e.g. stay at home as much as possible), personalized digital health interventions may be particularly suitable to reach smokers at home.

Continued smoking among patients with cancer has been associated with increased toxicities, resistance to treatment, and recurrence. This resident-led quality improvement study attempted to increase smoking cessation by providing free smoking cessation medications in the radiation oncology clinic.

Twenty currently smoking patients with nonmetastatic cancer were prospectively enrolled. First line treatment was protocol-standardized combined nicotine replacement therapy (patches and lozenges). Therapy was initiated before radiation therapy and given for 12 weeks. Patient self-reported tobacco use was assessed at midtreatment, end of 12-week treatment, 3-month follow-up, 6-month follow-up, and 12-month follow-up.

Within the initial cohort of 20 patients, average years smoked was 36.3 years (median = 37.5). In addition, 85% had attempted to quit previously. Among patients initially enrolled, 3 did not initiate radiation therapy, and 4 were removed from the study by midtreatment due to noncompliance. Midway he difficulties faced in helping patients with cancer quit, particularly patients seen at a safety-net hospital. Future efforts could be directed at intensified smoking cessation programs, likely incorporating a more standardized counseling component.
We report on the clinical performance of a fully automated approach to treatment planning based on a Pareto optimal, constrained hierarchical optimization algorithm, named Expedited Constrained Hierarchical Optimization (ECHO).

From April 2017 to October 2018, ECHO produced 640 treated plans for 523 patients who underwent stereotactic body radiation therapy (RT) for paraspinal and other metastatic tumors. A total of 182 plans were for 24 Gy in a single fraction, 387 plans were for 27 Gy in 3 fractions, and the remainder were for other prescriptions or fractionations. Of the plans, 84.5% were for paraspinal tumors, with 69, 302, and 170 in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbosacral spine, respectively. For each case, after contouring, a template plan using 9 intensity modulated RT fields based on disease site and tumor location was sent to ECHO through an application program interface plug-in from the treatment planning system. ECHO returned a plan that satisfied all critical structure hard constraints with og at our clinic.
We successfully implemented automated stereotactic body RT paraspinal and other metastatic tumors planning. ECHO produced high-quality plans, improved planning efficiency and robustness, and enabled expedited treatment planning at our clinic.
To propose a method of optimizing intensity modulated proton therapy (IMPT) plans robust against dosimetric degradation caused by random anatomic variations during treatment.

Fifteen patients with prostate cancer treated with IMPT to the pelvic targets were nonrandomly selected. On the repeated quality assurance computed tomography (QACTs) for some patients, bowel density changes were observed and caused dose degradation because the treated plans were not robustly optimized (non-RO). To mitigate this effect, we developed a robust planning method based on 3 CT images, including the native planning CT and its 2 copies, with the bowel structures being assigned to air and tissue, respectively. The RO settings included 5 mm setup uncertainty and 3.5% range uncertainty on 3 CTs. This method is called pseudomultiple-CT RO (pMCT-RO). Plans were also generated using RO on the native CT only, with the same setup and range uncertainties. This method is referred to as single-CT RO (SCT-RO). Doses on the QACTs and theomic changes in pelvic IMPT treatment. This method does not require additional patient CT scans. The pMCT-RO planning method has been implemented clinically since 2017 in our center.
The ambulatory patient experience is heavily influenced by wait times for provider care. Delayed patient visit start times may negatively affect overall satisfaction, and increased wait times affect the perception of the information, instructions, and treatment given by health care providers. Improving institutional practices overall requires the determination of the essential quality metrics that will make such an achievement possible. A protracted time leading up to the initiation of radiation therapy may promote poor satisfaction and perceived quality of care for both patients and referring providers alike, which may then create a barrier to patients being treated with radiation therapy. This institution piloted and sucessfully completed a study into improving the timeliness of initiation of patient radiation therapy for our patients.

This work sought to identify inefficiencies in radiation therapy treatment planning to shorten the time each patient waited for treatment. We examined the time between sig and modification of these processes revealed that the successes achieved toward better quality of care have been sustained.

Because inhibition of FASN has been shown to sensitize tumors to chemotherapy and radiation, we studied the effect of C75, a radiosensitizing FASN inhibitor, and compared its single agent and radiosensitizing activities in 2 prostate cancer cell lines, PC3 and LNCaP, with alternative FASN inhibitors that have progressed into clinical trials. We also investigated the effect of serum and fatty acid supplementation on responses to FASN inhibitors, probing expression of key proteins related to fatty acid uptake in response to FASN inhibition, irradiation, and serum lipid concentration and how this may be modulated to increase the potency of C75. We demonstrated that C75 was the only FASN inhibitor to sensitize cells to ionizing radiation; no sensitization was apparent with FASN inhibitors TVB-3166 or Orlistat. The prostate cancer cell lines were able to take up fatty acids from the culture medium, and the availability of fatty acids affected sensitivity of these cells to C75 but not the other FASN inhibitors tested.
