Whether human categorization of visual stimuli as faces is optimal for full-front views, best revealing diagnostic features but lacking depth cues, remains largely unknown. To address this question, we presented 16 human observers with unsegmented natural images of different living and non-living objects at a fast rate (f = 12 Hz), with natural face images appearing at f/9 = 1.33 Hz. Faces posing all full-front or at ¾ side view angles appeared in separate sequences. Robust frequency-tagged 1.33 Hz (and harmonic) occipito-temporal electroencephalographic (EEG) responses reflecting face-selective neural activity did not differ in overall amplitude between full-front and ¾ side views. Despite this, alternating between full-front and ¾ side views within a sequence led to significant responses at specific harmonics of .67 Hz (f/18), objectively isolating view-dependent face-selective responses over occipito-temporal regions. Critically, a time-domain analysis showed that these view-dependent face-selective responses reflected only an earlier response to full-front than ¾ side views by 8-13 ms. Overall, these findings indicate that the face-selective neural representation is as robust for ¾ side faces as for full-front faces in the human brain, but full-front views provide a slightly earlier processing-time advantage as compared to rotated face views.Autobiographical memory (AM) has been largely investigated as the ability to recollect specific events that belong to an individual's past. However, how we retrieve real-life routine episodes and how the retrieval of these episodes changes with the passage of time remain unclear. Here, we asked participants to use a wearable camera that automatically captured pictures to record instances during a week of their routine life and implemented a deep neural network-based algorithm to identify picture sequences that represented episodic events. We then asked each participant to return to the lab to retrieve AMs for single episodes cued by the selected pictures 1 week, 2 weeks and 6-14 months after encoding while scalp electroencephalographic (EEG) activity was recorded. We found that participants were more accurate in recognizing pictured scenes depicting their own past than pictured scenes encoded in the lab, and that memory recollection of personally experienced events rapidly decreased with the passing of time. We also found that the retrieval of real-life picture cues elicited a strong and positive 'ERP old/new effect' over frontal regions and that the magnitude of this ERP effect was similar throughout memory tests over time. However, we observed that recognition memory induced a frontal theta power decrease and that this effect was mostly seen when memories were tested after 1 and 2 weeks but not after 6-14 months from encoding. Altogether, we discuss the implications for neuroscientific accounts of episodic retrieval and the potential benefits of developing individual-based AM exploration strategies at the clinical level.Cognitive deficits are common in Parkinson's disease (PD), with some PD patients meeting criteria for mild cognitive impairment (MCI). An unaddressed question is whether linguistic prediction is preserved in PD. This ability is nowadays deemed crucial for achieving fast and efficient comprehension, and it may be negatively impacted by cognitive deterioration in PD. To fill this gap of knowledge, we used event-related potentials (ERPs) to evaluate mechanisms of linguistic prediction in a sample of PD patients (on dopamine compensation) with and without MCI. To this end, participants read sentence contexts that were predictive or not about a sentence-final word. The final word appeared after one sec, matching or mismatching the prediction. The introduction of the interval allowed to capture neural responses both before and after sentence-final words, reflecting semantic anticipation and semantic processing. PD patients with normal cognition (N = 58) showed ERP responses comparable to those of matched controls. Later, expected words elicited reduced N400 responses (compared to unexpected words), indicating facilitated semantic processing. However, it is found that the specificity of GOx is not absolute and GOx cannot decern β-D-glucose among its isomers such as xylose, mannose and galactose. The existence of the other monosaccharides in sensing system could compromise the sensitivity for β-D-glucose, therefore, it is of great urgency to achieve the highly specific catalytic performance of GOx. Herein, porous metal-organic frameworks (MOF) are prepared as the host matrix for immobilization of both GOx and bovine hemoglobin (BHb), obtained a cascaded catalytic system (MOF@GOx@BHb) with both enhanced GOx activity and peroxidase-like activity owing to the spatially confined effect. Then, using β-D-glucose as both template molecules and substances, hydroxyl radicals are produced continuously and applied for initiating the polymerization of molecular imprinting polymers (MIPs) on the surface of MOF@GOx@BHb. Impressively, the obtaining molecularly imprinted GOx (noted as MOF@GOx@BHb-MIPs) achieves the highly sensitive and specific detection of β-D-glucose in the concentration range of 0.5-20 μM with the LOD = 0.4 μM (S/N = 3) by colorimetry. Similarly, MOF@GOx@BHb-MIPs are subsequently obtained using mannose, xylose and galactose as template molecules, respectively, and also show satisfied specific catalytic activity towards corresponding templates, indicating the effectiveness of the proposed strategy to achieve highly specific catalytic performance of GOx.The potentially carcinogenic process contaminant 3- and 2-monochloropropanediol esters (2-MCPD and 3-MCPD esters) and glycidyl esters (GEs) are under study in refined oils and foodstuffs. Legislation set recommended total daily intake (TDI) for 3-MCPD of 0.8 µg/kg and as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) for glycidol. Usually, the so far adopted method for the determination of these contaminants relay on numerous and time-consuming steps for sample preparation (AOCS methods) and on GC-MS detection. The obtained sensitivities and the number of processable samples are thus limited. In this optic, new reliable methods that allow for the fast and sensitive determination of these contaminants in edible oils may be considered an improvement of the overall strategy of tackling the problem. In this paper a new automated method for sample preparation and detection by GC-MS/MS is presented and validated. Data on sensitivity (LOD at 1.5, 2.2 and 3 ng/g for 3-MCPD, 2-MCPD, 3-MBPD (deriving from glycidol), respectively), linearity across low and high calibration ranges and precision showed to be fit-for-purposes. Finally, the methodology was applied to ten extra virgin oil samples and one sample of sunflower seeds oil.
Tumor necrosis is a negative prognostic factor in various cancers. High-grade neuroendocrine carcinomas (HGNEC) of the lung, such as small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC), commonly have histopathological features of tumor necrosis. However, the prognostic value of tumor necrosis remains unknown.

A total of 81 patients with HGNEC (SCLC, n = 42; LCNEC, n = 39) who underwent complete resection were enrolled. The proportion of necrosis in the tumor tissues was quantified using digital image analysis. We analyzed the relationship between the proportion of necrosis, clinicopathological factors, and prognosis. Moreover, we examined the correlation between genomic alterations and proportion of necrosis.

The median proportion of necrosis was 10.6 % (range, 0-62.8 %). The proportion of necrosis was not significantly different between SCLC (median, 5.1 %; range, 0-62.8 %) and LCNEC (median 14.2 %; range, 0-59.3 %) (p =  0.14). The cumulative incidence of recurrence (CIR) and lung cancer-specific cumulative incidence of death (LC-CID) were significantly higher in patients with 10 % or higher necrosis (necrosis ≥ 10 %) than in those with less than 10 % (necrosis < 10 %) (hazard ratio [HR], 2.94; 95 % confidence interval [CI], 1.30-6.64, and HR, 2.87; 95 % CI, 1.13-7.29, respectively). In the bivariate analysis, necrosis ≥ 10 % was independently associated with higher CIR and tended to be associated with higher LC-CID. The frequency of genomic alterations in the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway, MYC family, MAPK/ERK pathway, and major RTK signaling pathways were not different between the necrosis ≥ 10 % and necrosis < 10 % groups for both SCLC and LCNEC.

This genus is known for its numerous biological activities such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, antilipid peroxidation, anticholinesterase, antileishmanial activities. The aim of this study was to determine chemical composition and biological activities of ethanol and n-hexane extracts of three different Jurinea species. For this purpose, different parts of J. mollis, J. cadmea and J. pontica were extracted and totally six n-hexane and six ethanol extracts were obtained. Fatty acid content of n-hexane extracts was determined by GC-FID whereas phenolic and flavonoid content of ethanol extracts by LC-HRMS. Palmitic acid (160) was detected as the most abundant fatty acid in all n-hexane extracts with the rates ranging from 42.16%-55.08%, except flowers of J. mollis (JMF) and J. cadmea (JCF). LC-HRMS analysis showed the rutin content of all extracts was higher than other flavonoids, except of J. cad highest tannin content (121.333 ± 17.889 mg TAE/ g DWE). In the light of these results, various parts of Jurinea species may be regarded as alternative sources for cytotoxic and/or antioxidant flavonoids, phenolics and unsaturated fatty acids that can arouse the interest of pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic industries.The failure of T cells to eradicate tumour cells in the tumour microenvironment is mainly due to the dysfunction of T cells. Senescent T cells, with defects in proliferation and effector functions, accumulate in ageing, chronic viral infections, and autoimmune disorders where antigen stimulation persists. Increasing evidence suggests that inducing T cell senescence is a key strategy used by malignant tumours to evade immune surveillance. In this review, we summarize the general features, functional regulation, and signalling network of senescent T cells in tumour development and highlight their potential as prognostic biomarkers in multiple cancer treatments, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy. Moreover, we discuss possible therapeutic strategies for preventing or rejuvenating senescence in tumour-specific T cells. Understanding these critical issues may provide novel strategies to enhance cancer immunotherapy.
