This coloration is due to its high content in anthocyanin, being also associated to bilberries beneficial health effects. In the bilberry industry, there is a very high annual loss of this fruit due to the less aesthetic shape or appearance, in which they cannot be considered suitable for sale and are therefore disposed as biological waste. Therefore, it is of great importance to valorize this fruit and this review aims to completely characterize the fruits of V. myrtillus in order to comprehend the relationship between their consumption and the beneficial effects regarding consumer's health. Thus, this review perform a description of the nutritional and bioactive compounds present in bilberry fruits, followed by their beneficial health effects. An overview of the natural pigments present in these fruits were also explored, focusing particular in the anthocyanins composition, which represents the most widely studied class of bioactive compounds of V. myrtillus fruits. Finally, industrial applications of these fruits and by-products, as an efficient approach to the production of value-added products with economic and environmental impact were also discussed. By a biomonitoring fractionation, the crude extract (EXT) and one fraction (F2) were selected and incorporated into a lipid nanoemulsion (NL) composed of cholesterol (10%), a 12 mixture of soybean phosphatidylcholinepolyoxyethylene -20- cetyl ether (10%), and phosphate buffer solution (pH 7.4) with a 0.5% chitosan dispersion (80%). The NL presented diameter size between 50-200 nm, pseudoplastic behavior, and positive charge. The EXT and five fractions were active against planktonic cells. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION The incorporation of EXT and F2 into the NL resulted in an increase in antifungal activity and enhanced the anti-biofilm potential. Natural products can be a source of antifungals and used in combinatorial therapy. Plants produce metabolites that can inhibit pathogen growth and these compounds have been intensely explored. Several proteins, enzymes and metabolic pathways could be targets for the discovery of efficient inhibitor compounds and recently, heat shock proteins, calcineurin, salinomycin, trehalose biosynthetic pathway and the glyoxylate cycle have been investigated in several fungal species. Transcriptomic and proteomic approaches have advanced antifungal drug discovery and pointed to new important specific-pathogen targets. Finally, computation biology has helped in the search of more effective approaches and early antifungal drug discovery, since it takes several years from discovery to clinical use. Als Teilprojekt der nationalen Demenzstrategie der Schweiz wurde untersucht, inwieweit die in den Alters- und Pflegeheimen bereits eingesetzten Bedarfsabklärungsinstrumente BESA und RAI ausreichend sind, um Symptome von Depressionen, Delirien und behavioralen und psychologischen Symptomen der Demenz (BPSD) frühzeitig zu erkennen. Während RAI für die Bewertung von Depressivität als ausreichend aufgefasst wurde, ist für BESA die Ergänzung um den Zwei-Fragen-Test und die geriatrische Depressionsskala zu empfehlen. Für die Erkennung von Delirien sind hingegen nur in BESA geeignete Fokusassessments vorhanden. Weder RAI noch BESA erfassen vollständig das grosse Spektrum der psychologischen und BPSD. Neben klaren Situationen, in denen die Antikoagulation danach sistiert werden kann (z.B. postoperative Beinvenenthrombose) oder in denen eine unbefristete Antikoagulation unbestritten indiziert ist (z.B. unprovozierte Lungenembolie), ist die Entscheidung bzgl. der Dauer der Antikoagulation in der Mehrzahl der Fälle nicht einfach.
