To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of percutaneous magnetic resonance (MR) imaging-guided laser ablation for the treatment of symptomatic soft tissue vascular malformations (VMs) in the face and neck.

An institutional review board-approved retrospective review was undertaken of all consecutive patients who underwent MR imaging-guided and monitored laser ablation for treatment of symptomatic, cervicofacial soft tissue VM. Preablation and postablation MR imaging findings were independently reviewed. Preablation and postablation VM sizes were documented. Preablation T2 signal characteristics and enhancement patterns as well as postablation change in both signal and enhancement were semiquantitatively assessed. Changes in VM size were compared using a paired t test.

Thirteen patients (women, 9; age, 14.5-69.5 years) with 13 VMs were treated for moderate-to-severe pain (n= 4), swelling/mass effect (n= 8), or predominantly cosmesis (n= 1) with 22 total ablation sessions. The baseline maximum VM diameter was 5.7 cm ± 4.2. At baseline, all VMs (100%) demonstrated variable T2-weighted signal hyperintensity and enhancement. For painful VM, the baseline pain score was 8 ± 1. Clinical follow-up was available for 10 patients. Of patients with available follow-up, 3 (100%) treated for moderate-to-severe pain and 7 (100%) treated for swelling/mass effect reported subjective complete or partial symptomatic relief. The patient treated predominantly for cosmetic reasons was lost to follow-up. Two patients (15.4%) experienced minor adverse events by the Society of Interventional Radiology standards. There were no major adverse events.

In China, the platelet donation interval is 14days. The eligibility criterion of plateletpheresis donors (PD) is more stringent than that of whole blood donors, so the deferral causes are very complicated. However, the deferral prevalence and causes among PDs are not well known in China.

To analyse the deferral prevalence and influencing factors during pre-donation among PDs in a blood centre in Eastern China.

From December 26, 2020 to December 25, 2021, all data of potential PDs during pre-donation were extracted from the register system and collected using Microsoft Excel. The number of deferred visits and the corresponding causes were retrospectively analysed, and the re-donation rate of deferred donors was calculated.

A total of 19,762 visits were included in the study. Of these 17,847 (90.3%) donated platelets successfully and 1915 (9.7%) were deferred. The prevalence of deferrals was high among those less than 35years old (p<0.05) and first-time donors (p=0). The leading cause for deferral was elevated alanine transaminase (51.4%) followed by abnormal haematological parameters (37.15%). High white blood cell count was the first deferral factor (26.9%) in abnormal haematological parameters. In more than 2 ineligible items, low haemoglobin and haematocrit simultaneously were dominant (58.3%). The re-donation rate of repeat donors (65.4%) was higher than that of first-time donors (19.3%) (p=0).

However, the molecular mechanisms that control gene activation and repression associated with the macrophage response to acute ZIKV infection are not fully understood. We approached the issue by RNA-seq and miRNA-seq datasets to understand the genetic program of ZIKV-infected macrophages. Results indicate that macrophage activates a regulatory program, involving 1067 differentially expressed genes. These genetic programs induced an inflammatory response mediated by chemokines as well as an interferon-independent anti-viral response, presumptively activated by IL-27. Additionally, the pathogenetic process involves changes in other signaling pathways such as cellular stress, cell signaling, metabolism, and cell differentiation. Furthermore, transcriptional control analysis revealed regulatory functions of key transcription factors principally, NFκB and STAT1, as well as HIF1A, ETV7, and PRMD1 that are associated with metabolic reprogramming during viral infection. We also noted six long-noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) that may act in the regulation of gene expression, including MROCKI and ZC2HC1A-2, that are involved in the inflammatory response and expression of the cytokines, respectively. On the other hand, post-transcriptional control by miRNAs, including miR-155-5p and miR-146a-5p, are associated with modulation of genes related to inflammatory and antiviral responses. Relevant to the post-transcriptional control, our data unveiled the role of RNA binding proteins that have diverse functions such as ribonucleases (PNPT1, ZC3H12A, and ZC3HAV1), splicing factors (SSB, RBM11, and RAVER2), and RNA modifiers (PARP10 and PARP14). Inhibition of circUBXN7 significantly promoted cell proliferation and reduced cell apoptosis, while overexpression of circUBXN7 suppressed cell proliferation and accelerated cell apoptosis in LPS-induced A549 and Beas-2B cells. CircUBXN7 acted as a sponge for miR-622, and miR-622 rescued the effect of circUBXN7 on cell proliferation and apoptosis. We also found that IL6ST was a target gene of miR-622, and the expression of IL6ST was indirectly regulated by circUBXN7. Furthermore, western blotting indicated that the JAK1/STAT3 signaling pathway was involved in the circUBXN7/miR-622/IL6ST axis in LPS-induced A549 and Beas-2B cell injury. Overall, our study suggested that circUBXN7 suppressed cell proliferation and facilitated cell apoptosis by sponging miR-622 and regulating IL6ST, to activate the JAK1/STAT3 signaling pathway in LPS-induced A549 and Beas-2B cell injury. CircUBXN7 might therefore be a potential biomarker for ARDS, and dysregulation of circUBXN7 may be involved in the pathogenesis of ARDS.
 Endoscopic transpapillary gallbladder stenting (ETGS) can be a bridging therapy to elective cholecystectomy or a permanent gallbladder drainage method in patients with symptomatic gallbladder disease who are awaiting cholecystectomy or are unfit for surgery, respectively. We evaluated the intermediate- to long-term outcomes of ETGS in these groups.

 We retrospectively reviewed 234 patients (acute cholecystitis = 147), who were unfit for surgery (n = 50) or had deferred cholecystectomy (n = 184) and who underwent ETGS between 2012 and 2021. A 7-Fr, 15-cm, double-pigtail plastic stent was placed for ETGS without scheduled stent exchange. Biliary event-free rates (i. e. cholecystitis and cholangitis) were determined at 6 months, 1 year, and ≥ 2 years.

 Technical and clinical success rates were 84.6 % (198/234) and 97.4 % (193/198), respectively. Kaplan-Meier analysis (n = 193) showed a biliary event-free rate of 99 % (95 %CI 0.95-1.00) at 6 months, 92 % (95 %CI 0.87-0.97) at 1 year, and 76 % (95 %CI 0.65-0.93) at ≥ 2 years, during a median follow-up period of 564 days (range 200-3001 days).

Tinnitus is a symptom experienced by millions of people around the world, generating psychological, physical and social consequences. There are different therapeutic options that seek to reduce the symptom and the related consequences. One of the newest alternatives is training with Neurofeedback, a neuromodulation technique that looks for modify brain activity. The objective of this research was to determine the efficacy of Neurofeedback treatment parameters in reducing the perception of tinnitus and in reducing the behavioral consequences triggered by the symptom, through a systematic review between 2010 and 2020.

The data search was carried out in Spanish and English on PubMed/MedLine, EBSCO Host, Embase, Scopus, CENTRAL, SpringerLink and OpenGrey databases. The systematic review was carried out according to the stages established by PRISMA and five studies were identified to be included in the qualitative analysis.

All studies demonstrated that NFB training for tinnitus decreases symptom perception and related consequences. At the neural level, there was an increase in the activity of the alpha wave and a decrease in the activity of delta, gamma and beta.

Neurofeedback has a modulating effect on brain activity patterns. However, although all the studies reported a decrease in the consequences related to the symptom at the behavioral level after treatment, due to the lack of development of this technique for the symptom and the characteristics of the studies reviewed, it cannot be certainty of efficacy on behavioral and neurophysiological consequences.
