3 Wheel All Terrain Pushchair
A pushchair that is all-terrain and offers great maneuverability will be perfect whether you're looking for a buggy for nature walks or a stroll on the high street. These types of models are typically equipped with large wheels and a suspension system that provides an easy ride on bumpy terrain.
The majority are suitable for babies and come with a lie-flat seat or newborn carrycot. These vehicles also have tyres that do not flatten, which are typically comprised from foam.
Suspension
A true all-terrain pushchair will have an excellent suspension that has been designed to be smooth and comfortable on rough terrain. This will make your child feel more relaxed and at ease. The wheels are typically large and puncture-proof to prevent damage from sharp sticks or rocks.
Some all-terrain strollers provide the option of switching between different tyres to suit the conditions. Depending on the kind of terrain you want to explore, some all-terrain pushchairs have an swivel front wheel that can be locked for stability or left unlocked for greater maneuverability when required.
Certain all-terrain strollers have a brake handbrake lockable that is more accessible by hand. This is superior to an ordinary pedal on the handlebars. This is a fantastic option if you're an avid climber.
There are many strollers with good off-road capability, but not the ultimate. 3 wheel buggy have large wheels and excellent suspension. These are often a bit cheaper than the more expensive full-on all-terrain buggy models, and will still be perfectly suitable for excursions to the park with your dog or for short walks in the country.
A lot of these pushchairs can be used from birth, either with the carrycot or a newborn-ready car seat. Be aware that the seats will not lay flat when pushing over bumps or dips. According to EU regulations, they only have to meet minimum requirements of reclined angles of approximately 150deg. Graco has solved this issue with its new 'comfitech in-seat suspension' that lets the seat to recline to a more comfortable angle to provide a little more comfort. This feature is available on the Lila XP All-Terrain Pushchair, that can be used in conjunction with a compatible Graco Infant Car Seat to create a three-in-one travel system.
Seat
There is a broad selection of 3-wheeled all-terrain pushchairs available that offer an excellent off road capability. These are ideal for those who reside in the countryside or frequently take a walk on rough, uneven ground. They are often more robust and sturdy than a regular pushchair, and have special features like large wheels that can withstand punctures to handle the most difficult of surfaces. They are often quite large and may be difficult to maneuver in narrow spaces or in aisles of shops.
All-terrain buggy seat can be placed either in the direction of parents or world facing. They will grow with your child from newborn to toddler. It's equipped with foam-filled 'never flat' tyres for a smooth ride with dual frame suspension as well as luxurious padding in the seat unit that offers great postural support and comfort. It also features a recline mechanism, as well as an extended sun hood that can be extended that has integrated ventilation as well as a smart phone pocket.
Another excellent choice is the new Out 'n' About Nipper V5 Pushchair for all-terrain use that's a trailblazer with a great suspension and air-filled tyres, which means it can be used to jog once your child is old enough. It also comes with the ability to lock the front 360 swivel wheel to allow for maneuverability, and an easy fold that's easy and quick. It's suitable for babies from birth and can be paired with an UPPAbaby car seat or infant car seat adapters (sold separately).
A majority of all-terrain pushchairs lack seats that can be reversible, however the likes of the Oyster 3, Venicci Tinum and egg 2 do have this option, and both provide a very good level of off-road performance, and also have a decent weight limit for a 2-year old. There are a variety of pushchairs that are classed as all-rounders, such as the iCandy Pear and Bugaboo Cameleon which are very good with the rough terrain of the park or National Trust places but don't have quite the off-road capability of all-terrain pushchairs.
There are also crossover models that offer an excellent compromise between extreme off road and high street. They have big wheels, excellent suspension, and are designed in a pushchair style, with an option for reversible seating and a carrycot. Brands like iCandy, Easywalker and Bugaboo have produced some excellent models to take a look at.
Wheels
If you reside in a rural area or take your child regularly on walks over rough ground an all-terrain pushchair becomes vital. These models usually have larger back wheels than regular pushchairs, making them better at handling bumpy off-road terrains and ensuring an easy ride for your child. Many models also have a robust suspension that is puncture-proof, which means they can be used on grass, woodland paths and forest paths, as well as markets town and gravel roads. cobbles.
Some all-terrain pushchairs also feature an adjustable front wheel that provides more stability when walking on rough terrain or on high kerbs. Some models have swivel front wheels that allow you to maneuver the buggy more easily when you are changing direction or turning corners.
Most all-terrain pushchairs feature air-filled tyres, which provide excellent shock absorption and are ideal for tackling rough ground but they're more prone to punctures than solid EVA tyres found on city strollers that are light, so it's worth buying a repair kit, spare inner tube and pump for your pushchair. Some all-terrain models have foam tyres that are less prone to punctures but they're not as good at taking in shock and could be harder to push than air-filled tyres.
The new Bugaboo Fox 5 pushchair is an excellent example of a stroller that has both foam and air filled tyres. It also features an excellent suspension and large rear wheels that are puncture resistant and suitable for off-road usage or running (once your child reaches the appropriate age). It can also be used as a baby with a carrycot and a lying-flat chair.
The iCandy Peach All-Terrain is another alternative. It has big tires, a single steering wheel in the front and big tyres. It's not as flexible as the other pushchairs with all-terrain capabilities on this list but it does perform well on hilly terrain and has an expansive one-handed fold, which is great if you're going to use the pushchair for long walks or excursions into the countryside. It's also suitable for infants and features a large, extendable canopy, an adjustable handlebar, and a large, spacious basket.
Storage
There are some excellent all-terrain pushchairs that are ideal for parents who would like to take their child off-road but don't want to take on Ben Nevis. They are the best of both. Find models that have good all-terrain capabilities, sturdy suspension and large puncture proof wheels, yet is built in a traditional pushchair style with reversible seating and carrycot options.
UPPAbaby's popular Ridge all terrain pushchair is a good model. It has a great suspension as well as a one-handed fold and a large basket that can support up to 10kg. But it also has numerous features that are suitable for parents, such as an adjustable handlebar and an operator-operated break on the right. The hood can be taken off and washed using cool soapy-water to avoid mould or mildew.
If you are planning to take your all-terrain stroller off road, opt for air-filled tires rather than rubber grips. They'll provide a smoother ride over rough terrain and make it easier to navigate through tight spaces. If you are planning to use your all-terrain stroller for occasional jogging, ensure that the front wheel can swivel or has a quick release facility to ensure it is locked in place for greater stability.
To ensure that the fabric is in pristine condition, it's important to ensure that they are washed by a machine. If not, a spot clean with soapy water, warm, and warm water should suffice. The fabric can be dried completely outside to avoid mould or mildew.
The majority of our 3 wheeled all terrain pushchairs are able to be used from birth. Find models with a fully lie-flat chair and a reversible rearrest that will allow you to use it from the time of birth all the way to when your child is about three years old. Many are compatible with car seat adapters when you're traveling with a family of three. You can leave your car at home and instead use all-terrain strollers that have fixed wheels for jogging, light or casual strolling. One example is the Delta Special Needs All-Terrain Jogger from Delichon that comes in a variety of frame and canvas sizes that can be used by children and adults.
