We compared cases of phenotypic female patients who presented with male karyotype and underwent prophylactic gonadectomy.

Five patients with female phenotypes presented in early adulthood with primary amenorrhoea with varying degrees of puberty. One was tall with breast development. Another was very short with clitoromegaly and multiple co-morbidities. The other three had no secondary sexual characteristics. They were examined, after which hormonal profile, karyotyping, ultrasound examination and magnetic resonance imaging were done to assess the site of gonads. Gonadectomy was performed once their 46 XY karyotype was confirmed. Results of histopathological examination of their gonads ranged from dysgenetic gonads to having testicular tissues and malignancy.

Female patients with 46 XY karyotypes require prophylactic gonadectomy performed at different timings depending on diagnosis due to the malignancy risk. Pre-operative assessment is essential to locate the gonads prior to surgery.

Ovarian cancer is the seventh most common cancer in women worldwide and the eighth most common cause of cancer death. Due to the lack of effective early detection strategies and the unspecific onset of symptoms, it is diagnosed at an advanced stage in 75% of cases. The cancer antigen (CA) 125 is used as a prognostic marker and its level is elevated in more than 85% of women with advanced stages of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). The standard treatment is primary debulking surgery (PDS) followed by adjuvant chemotherapy (ACT), but the later approach is neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) followed by interval debulking surgery (IDS). Several studies have been conducted to find out whether preoperative CA-125 serum levels influence treatment choice, surgical resection and survival outcome. The aim of our study was to analyse experience of single institution as Cancer comprehensive center with preoperative usefulness of CA-125.

At the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana a retrospective analysis of 253 women with stage FIGO IIIC and IV ovarian cancer was conducted. Women were divided into two groups based on their primary treatment. The first group was the NACT group (215 women) and the second the PDS group (38 women). The differences in patient characteristics were compared using the Chi-square test and ANOVA and the Kaplan-Meier method was used for calculating progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS).

The median serum CA-125 level was higher in the NACT group than in the PDS group, 972 IU/ml and 499 IU/ ml, respectively. The PFS in the NACT group was 8 months (95% CI 6.4-9.5) and 18 months (95% CI 12.5-23.4) in the PDS group. The median OS was lower in the NACT group than in the PDS group, 25 months (95% CI 20.6-29.5) and 46 months (95% CI 32.9-62.1), respectively.

Preoperative CA-125 cut off value of 500 IU/ml is a promising threshold to predict a successful PDS.

Optoacoustic-induced vibrations of the hearing organ can potentially be used for a hearing device. To increase the efficiency of such a hearing device, the conversion of the light energy into vibration energy within each type of irradiated tissue has to be optimized.

To analyze the wavelength-dependency of optoacoustic-induced vibrations within the tympanic membrane (TM), and to define the most efficient and best-suited optical stimulation parameters for a novel auditory prosthesis.

Single nanosecond laser pulses, continuously tunable in a range of visible to near-infrared, were used to excite the guinea pig TM. The induced vibrations of the hearing organ were recorded at the malleus using a laser Doppler vibrometer.

Our results indicate a strong wavelength-dependency of the vibration's amplitude correlating with the superposition of the absorption spectra of the different specific tissue components.

We investigated the spectrum of the vibrations of the hearing organ that were induced optoacoustically within a biological membrane embedded in air, in an animal model. First applications for these results can be envisioned for the optical stimulation of the peripheral hearing organ as well as for research purposes.

To describe the oral health profile of individuals who had undergone gastric bypass surgery (GBP) or sleeve gastrectomy (SG) to generate hypotheses for further studies.

Fourteen individuals treated with GBP or SG surgery ≥ 2 years ago and with observed and/or perceived oral problems were recruited to a case series. The documentation included clinical and radiographic examinations, biomedical sampling, and self-reported diet and questionnaires. The results are presented descriptively.

The age range was 31 to 66 years and all had a BMI > 25 (range 25.4-44.7). Only four participants were fully dentate. Eleven out of 14 individuals exhibited severe decay. this website A majority had poor oral hygiene and high bacterial counts. The flow rates of unstimulated saliva were extremely low and hyposalivation was present in ten of the fourteen cases. Most perceived several oral health problems, such as chewing difficulty and tooth hypersensitivity.

Individuals who had undergone GBP or SG surgery had poor clinically diagnosed oral health and perceived oral health problems. Longitudinal studies are needed to monitor the patients' oral health, from before bariatric surgery to long-term postoperatively.

A systematic review was performed by searching the PubMed, Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, and EMBASE databases from their inception date up to October 2020. Only studies on reconstructing plantar defects with perforator flaps were included, and specific data were required for each patient in the included studies. A total of 14 studies involving 111 flaps were identified and included in the meta-analysis. Our meta-analysis identified two risk factors for postoperative complications flap size over 50 cm2 (risk ratio [RR] = 3.12; P = .02), diabetes mellitus foot (RR = 3.26; P = .03). No significant differences were found regarding heel defects (P = .34), single perforator (P = .57), age older than 60 years (P = .19), chronic aetiology (P = .13), trauma (P = .33), tumour resection (P = .60), ulcer (P = .84), and burn (P = .76). Although more high-quality studies with adequate sample sizes are needed, this meta-analysis indicated that flap size over 50 cm2 and diabetes mellitus foot were significant risk factors for postoperative complications of perforator flaps in plantar reconstruction.
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is the most common acute leukemia in adults, and chemotherapy remains the most commonly used treatment approach for this group of hematological disorders. Drug resistance is one of the predictors of unfavorable prognosis for leukemia patients.

The purpose of this study was to perform a retrospective analysis of the survival rate in AML patients according to age, tumor status, and chemotherapy regimen received and to analyze the therapy response of AML patients depending on the treatment received, initial responsiveness of tumor cells to chemotherapeutic drugs measured in vitro at diagnosis and expression of immunological markers.

The survival of AML patients (n = 127) was analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier method. Drug sensitivity of tumor cells of AML patients (n = 37) and the expression of immunological markers were evaluated by the WST test and flow cytometry, respectively. Correlation analysis was performed using Spearman's rank order correlation coefficient.

We found theosis can be a useful tool for predicting the response of leukemia patients to planned chemotherapy.
To investigate the relationship between pressure ulcers risk and severity of obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD) by invasive coronary angiography.

Cross-sectional study.

A total of 193 consecutive patients with underlying pressure ulcers risk who underwent invasive coronary angiography were enrolled. Subjects were divided into three groups according to severity of coronary artery stenosis. Pressure ulcers risk score, fall risk score, self-care ability score and cardiovascular risk factors were compared among the three groups. Multivariate regression analysis and receiver operating curve analysis were performed to explore the diagnostic value of Braden score for left main or three-vessel disease.

Patients with more severe CAD had higher pressure ulcers risk. The percentage of high-pressure ulcers risk was highest in left main or three-vessel disease group, compared with control group and single- or two-vessel disease group. After adjusting for age, body mass index, diabetes, chronic kidney diseasive CAD.
To assess knowledge, attitudes and practices of Moroccan nursing students towards COVID-19.

Cross-sectional study.

Data were collected using an online questionnaire consisted of demographic characteristics and 24 items about COVID-19-related knowledge, attitudes and practices.

A total of 1,216 nursing students participated in this study. About 82% of the participants reported that the COVID-19 virus spreads via respiratory droplets of infected individuals. The most clinical symptoms of COVID-19 correctly identified by participants were fever (97.6%), dry cough (92.4%), dyspnoea (82%) and fatigue (74.9%). More than 56.6% of the participants were afraid of being affected by COVID-19. Almost all participants reported that they avoid crowded places frequently. About 93.4% of the participants declared frequently wearing face mask when leaving home, and 85.5% maintained social distancing frequently. However, only 47.4% reported that they frequently washed their hands. About 51% stated that coronavirus outbreak has considerably changed their daily routines.
