In seasonal breeders, such as amphibians, testicular functions depend on complex processes that change according to seasonality, including Leydig cell (LC) differentiation and lipid-dependent steroidogenesis, extracellular proteins remodeling and actin-dependent cellular dynamics. Speculating that fat bodies (FB) could support some of these processes in L. catesbeianus, we evaluated bilaterally the FB weights, correlating them to testicular parameters such as weight, testosterone (T) immunoexpression, mast cells (MC) number, vascularization and structural proteins. In an attempt to better understand the testicular asymmetry in amphibians, correlations between these different testicular parameters were also established. Right testes (RT), left testes (LT) and associated FB of bullfrogs were weighed, and testes were processed for light and transmission electron microscopy. Collagen content (COL) and MC number were quantified. T and actin immunoexpressions and vascular areas were measured. Statistical analyses aount of this structural protein depends on androgenic control. Therefore, the testicular asymmetry in bullfrogs seems to be associated to different morphofunctional processes occurring, bilaterally, at different intensities. In this case, there is a tendency of LT, in association with its FB, to be more active than RT. The findings highlight the FB-testis interplay for the comprehension of reproduction in amphibians.Roughly 150,000 malignant pleural effusions (MPE) are diagnosed in the United States each year. The majority of cases are caused by lung and breast cancer, and since MPE represents advanced disease, the prognosis is generally poor. In this article we review the pathophysiology, epidemiology, and prognosis of MPE. We then discuss the approach to diagnosis of MPE including the role of imaging, pleural fluid analysis, and medical thoracoscopy. Current management strategies for symptomatic MPE include repeated thoracentesis for patients with very limited life expectancy as well as more definitive procedures such as chemical pleurodesis, tunneled indwelling pleural catheters, and novel combined approaches. The choice of intervention is guided by the efficacy, local expertise, and risk, as well as patient factors and preferences.Notch signaling, which is essential for tissue development and homeostasis, has received attention as an attractive target for cancer therapy, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. For signal activation, the Notch receptor undergoes proteolysis after binding to its ligand. This process is mediated by a mechanical pulling force, and receptor trans-endocytosis is known to play a central role in supplying the force. On the other hand, Notch ligands immobilized on carrier materials also induce artificial Notch activation. However, the mechanism of signal activation by immobilized ligand proteins is not fully understood. Here, we found that the actin cytoskeleton in Notch1-expressing cells contributes to signal activation induced by immobilized DLL4 (Delta-like ligand 4), and the results showed that pharmacological inhibition of actin dynamics impaired Notch signaling induced by DLL4-coated beads. Moreover, inhibition of actin dynamics remarkably impaired cell migration and was correlated with Notch signaling activity. We also investigated the contribution of Notch cis-endocytosis (the endocytosis of Notch receptor into signal-receiving cells) as an actin-mediated cell biological process to further explore the mechanism of Notch activation by DLL4-coated beads. Compromising the receptor cis-endocytosis pathway with the dynamin inhibitor did not alter DLL4-coated bead-induced Notch signaling, indicating that signal activation is not mediated by dynamin-dependent receptor cis-endocytosis. These findings suggest that Notch activation by immobilized ligands is primarily driven by actin-based cell movement, which might supply a sufficient mechanical force for receptor cleavage, but not by receptor cis-endocytosis.The ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) paradigm requires ST-segment elevation (STE) in contiguous leads on electrocardiography (ECG). STEMI criteria overlook numerous patients with acute coronary occlusion (ACO). The Aslanger pattern describes an ECG without contiguous STE, indicating acute inferior occlusion myocardial infarction (OMI) with concomitant multi-vessel disease. Opevesostat purchase We describe one case of inferior OMI with one STE in lead III on initial ECG; however acute inferior STEMI was later identified. Coronary angiography showed thrombosis in the proximal right coronary artery and severe stenosis in non-infarct-related arteries. Awareness of the limitations of current STEMI criteria is crucial for timely intervention.Brugada syndrome (BrS) is a rare disorder characterized by coved or saddle-shaped ST-segment elevation in the right precordial leads on the electrocardiogram. Risk stratification in BrS remains challenging. A number of clinical, electrocardiographic, programmed ventricular stimulation and genetic risk factors have been identified as important predictors of future major arrhythmic events. There is a positive association between the number of risk factors and arrhythmic events. Hence, a multi-parametric approach would provide comprehensive risk assessment and more accurate risk stratification, assisting in therapeutic decisions making, including implantable cardioverter-defibrillator placement or identification of low-risk individuals. However, the extent to which each variable influences the risk and non-linear interactions between the different risk variables make risk stratification challenging. This paper aims to provide a focused review of the multi-parametric risk models for BrS risk stratification published in the literature.
To determine whether using unfolding case-based learning for undergraduate nursing students learning health assessment skills enhanced academic achievement, critical thinking and self-confidence, in comparison to traditional learning methods.

Unfolding case-based learning is an effective strategy for nursing students to narrow the gap between classroom learning and clinical practice. Little is known about whether unfolding case-based learning can be applied effectively in learning health assessment skills for undergraduate nursing students in China.

A quasi-experimental design was used in this study. One hundred and fifteen undergraduate nursing students were recruited using convenience sampling from a medical university in southern China. They were assigned to an intervention group (n=54) receiving unfolding case-based learning of health assessment skills, or a control group (n=61) using traditional learning methods based on students' choices. Learning outcomes were evaluated by students' academic achicase-based learning may be effective and suitable for undergraduate nursing students learning health assessment skills. The findings of this study provide useful information to nursing teachers for the development of unfolding case-based learning when teaching other nursing skills to undergraduate nursing students.

Mental health and psychosocial concerns such as domestic violence in pregnancy and after birth are significant issues. Maternal health, social and environmental contexts have a direct influence on child development and long-term health. However, midwives, nurses and other health professionals lack confidence and skills in assessing, supporting and referring women with perinatal psychosocial concerns.

The aim of the scoping review is to review educational innovations and teaching strategies used to build skills and knowledge in health professionals and students to address psychosocial concerns including perinatal mental health, domestic violence and drug and alcohol misuse.

A scoping review was undertaken to help identify the breadth of papers reporting educational innovations and strategies particularly to address psychosocial concerns.

Four databases CINAHL, PsychoInfo, PubMed, OvidMedline and the grey literature were searched using a diverse range of terms for papers published in English between Janovide guidance as to the best mode of delivery or length of program CONCLUSION This scoping review provides a broad overview of innovative and diverse educational methods and strategies being used in the nursing, midwifery and health disciplines to engage students and practitioners in learning in the areas of perinatal mental health and psychosocial care. Involvement of lived experience consumers in the design and delivery of education programs can positively impact learners' knowledge and understandings of sensitive psychosocial topics. These diverse approaches could be used to shape the development and evaluation of future education programs.
The aim of this discussion paper is to discuss learning theories in midwifery education, as related to the Midwifery Continuity of Care Experience and to propose an original conceptual framework based on Heutagogy.

Midwifery education curricula include a number of midwifery practice experiences. One of the requirements is for students to provide Midwifery Continuity of Care. To achieve these experiences, students in Australia are required to provide care to at least ten (10) women through pregnancy, be on call for the woman's birth and provide at least two visits post-birth. Continuity of care experiences appear to have been incorporated without sufficient consideration of the educational purpose of the experience, or how the experiences contribute to the development of the profession. Although we do know midwifery practice embraces woman-centred care as its philosophical underpinning, a learning approach that is congruent with this philosophy needs to be clearly articulated.

A discussion paper that com empowering students to participate in their own education by giving them the ability to be self-determined in both their approach to learning and to evaluate their own learning needs.
As a learning theory, heutagogy is well - aligned with woman-centred care. Heutagogy provides a theoretical framework suitable to underpin strategies, including the conceptual framework proposed, that may assist in empowering students to participate in their own education by giving them the ability to be self-determined in both their approach to learning and to evaluate their own learning needs.LaNiO3 and NiO are promising materials for supercapacitor applications. However, it is still challenging to design special structures based on these materials to improve the electrochemical performances of supercapacitor electrodes. In this work, a two-step method with low cost and convenient operation was developed to prepare dandelion-shaped LaNiO3/NiO (CSD-LaNiO3/NiO) with core-shell structure. The as-obtained CSD-LaNiO3/NiO showed high conductivity due to the core LaNiO3, which helped to provide an efficient electron transmission path for the shell NiO, producing a strong synergistic effect. The results of electrochemical properties of CSD-LaNiO3/NiO, LaNiO3 and NiO samples revealed the superior specific capacitance of CSD-LaNiO3/NiO (326.8 F g-1) at 1 A g-1 compared to LaNiO3 (166.5 F g-1) and NiO (44.2 F g-1). The as-obtained CSD-LaNiO3/NiO material was then mixed with activated carbon and assembled into an asymmetric supercapacitor, which exhibited a wide potential window of 1.8 V, energy density of 30.
