However, two fundamental subtypes of MNAR values can be obtained from the definition of the MNAR mechanism itself. The distinction between them deserves consideration because they have characteristic differences in how they distort relationships in the data. This has implications for the validity of statistical results and generalizability of methodological findings that are based on data (empirical or generated) with MNAR values. However, these MNAR subtypes have largely gone unnoticed by the literature. As few studies have considered both subtypes, their relevance to methodological and substantive research has been overlooked. This article systematically introduces the two MNAR subtypes and gives them descriptive names. A case study demonstrates they are mechanically distinct from each other and from other missing-data mechanisms. Applied examples are given to help researchers conceptually identify MNAR subtypes in real data. Methods are provided to generate missing values from both subtypes in simulation studies. Simulation studies for regression and growth curve modeling contexts show MNAR subtypes consistently differ in the severity of their impact on statistical inference. This behavior is examined in light of how relationships in the data become characteristically distorted. However, the psychometric properties of the English-language version of the DSI-SS have not been extensively examined within a psychiatric sample, and important properties of this scale (e.g., sensitivity to change) have yet to be examined. Within a sample of 448 adult psychiatric patients enrolled in a partial hospital program (PHP), we examined several measurement properties of the DSI-SS, including its factor structure, internal consistency, validity, and sensitivity to change, as well as the presence of differential item functioning (DIF). Confirmatory factor analysis that specified a one-factor model indicated that the DSI-SS had good model fit. DSI-SS scores demonstrated good internal consistency, ω = .90 [95% CI = .89-.91], convergent validity (rs = .52-.74), discriminant validity (rs = .12-.27), and sensitivity to change. None of the four DSI-SS items evinced statistically significant DIF across age, gender, sexual orientation, or PHP referral source (i.e., outpatient step-up vs. inpatient step-down). These findings suggest that the DSI-SS is a psychometrically sound self-report measure that can be used in real-world clinical settings and research contexts to reliably and validly assess suicidal ideation severity. Psychodynamic therapists use expressive techniques to elicit this introspection and self-observation. We examined whether therapists' use of expressive skills (e.g., encouraging expression of thoughts and feelings; helping clients understand the reasons behind their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors) when the WA is high, versus low, was related to client outcome in open-ended, psychodynamic treatment. Ten therapists rated the WA with their 47 clients, who rated their perceptions of helping skills, after 2,284 counseling sessions. Clients also completed the Outcome Rating Scale (ORS) in reference to the week following each session. We examined time-ordered relationships by creating lagged variables for WA (T-2) and therapist expressive skills (TES; T-1) and used these scores to predict ORS ratings (T) in a three-level Hierarchical Linear Modeling (HLM) analysis (sessions nested within clients, nested within therapists). Lagged WA (T-2) and expressive skills (T-1) were decomposed into between-therapist, within-therapist, and within-clients components. We found a 3-way interaction for within-therapist working alliance, within-client WA at T-2, and expressive skills at T-1 predicting ORS at T. When clients who had a weaker WA with their therapist than the therapists' other clients, had a session with a stronger WA than the client's usual WA, then more expressive skills in the next session was related to better psychological well-being in the subsequent session. The present study is the first to examine whether patients' attachment orientation toward significant others predicts their implicit and explicit expectations from the therapist, and whether this effect is moderated by the extent to which the therapist has become an attachment figure. In two studies (N = 308), we developed measures of implicit (lexical decision task) and explicit expectations from therapist, and tested the presence of individual differences in expectations as a function of the patients' attachment orientation, early and late in treatment. Whereas individuals higher on attachment anxiety did not report having fewer positive expectations from therapist early in treatment, they showed lower accessibility of positive expectations when measured implicitly. As treatment progressed, the extent to which the therapist has become an attachment figure may mitigate the adverse effects of pretreatment attachment anxiety. To date no scholarship has explored the experiences of immigrant Latinx transgender people during the current political climate. Using a critical intersectional qualitative framework, the present study aimed to investigate how immigrant Latinx transgender people are impacted by Trump's administration. A community sample of 15 immigrant Latinx transgender people from a large metropolitan city in Florida participated in semistructured interviews to explore their experiences since the election of Donald Trump. Thematic analysis revealed seven themes related to experiences of oppression, including (a) perceived increase in societal discrimination and violence, (b) perception of law enforcement surveillance, discrimination, and violence, (c) mental health toll, (d) decreased access to resources and opportunities, (e) perception of Trump's uninformed, hostile, and aggressive behavior, (f) rollback of discrimination protection, and (g) passing and conforming to norms. In addition, five themes emerged about participants' sources of coping and strength in response to the current political climate, including (a) pride and resilience, (b) hope for a better future, (c) religion and spirituality, (d) family and community support, and (d) short-term avoidance as a form of resistance. We apply this bilateral perspective in a reexamination of the robust finding that confident people report having had more supportive parents. The social-cognitive explanation for this finding is that parents endow their children with support that builds confidence. However, evolutionary accounts suggest that confident children-displaying more promise and potential-ought to attract their parents' investments of support. We examined these predictions in a four-wave longitudinal study drawing on both archival and field survey data from 350 STEM students (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) in the Philippines. Results were consistent with the bilateral perspective, in which parental support endowed children with confidence, but also children's confidence attracted parental support in equal measure. These reciprocal relations also had implications for whether or not students persisted in their computer science degrees. The results indicate that parental endowments of confidence and parental investments of support form a virtuous cycle, consistent with the perspective that self-efficacy operates not only as an intrapsychic resource allocator but also as an interpersonal resource attractor.
