009, <0.001, 0.001, <0.001, <0.001, respectively). Children with FC had significantly higher blood glucose, urea, creatinine, creatine kinase, alkaline phosphatase and albumin levels compared with the control groups (p<0.001, in all parameters). On the other hand, the potassium, sodium and chlorine levels of the Children with FCs were significantly lower than control groups (p=0.017, <0.001, p <0.001, respectively).

Novel biomarkers, such as kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1), cystatin, and neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) were shown to predict acute kidney injury (AKI) earlier than serum creatinine in critically ill. We carried out the present study to evaluate these biomarkers in addition to conventional in our neonates.

We recruited 70 neonates of various gestational age groups receiving one or more potential nephrotoxic drug/s. Daily urine samples were collected for estimating KIM-1, cystatin, and NGAL. Modified neonatal kidney disease improving global outcomes (mKDIGO) classification was used in defining AKI.

A significant trend in increased urine concentrations of KIM-1, cystatin, and NGAL were observed as we proceed from term to preterm categories. Strong positive correlation was observed between urine albumin and urine albumin creatinine ratio (ACR), and strong negative correlations between urine creatinine and urine cystatin, and between urine creatinine with urine NGAL. A moderate positive correlation was observed between urine KIM-1 and urine cystatin, between urine KIM-1 and urine NGAL, and between urine cystatin and urine NGAL; and a moderate negative correlation was observed between urine creatinine and urine KIM-1. Seven neonates met the mKDIGO criteria for AKI and ROC plot revealed that baseline KIM-1 and NGAL can significantly predict possible drug-induced AKI in neonates.

Urine KIM-1, cystatin, and NGAL are significantly correlated with several other conventional biomarkers that reflect renal function in critically ill neonates. Baseline urine KIM-1 and NGAL concentrations can predict the AKI following potential nephrotoxic drug use in this population.

People with a high risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus are primarily due to lifestyle factors and can be reduced by implementing awareness programs. Therefore, this study evaluates the diabetic awareness level, risk factors, and lifestyle behaviors among nondiabetic participants.

This is a cross-sectional study conducted among 538 nondiabetic participants based on American Diabetic Association (ADA) parameters via face-to-face interview. The sample was collected from five different primary health care centers from November 2019 to February 2020. The target population was nondiabetic with age ≥18 years and participants with other serious chronic illnesses, pregnant women, or unable to communicate effectively were excluded.

A total of 538 participants without diabetes data were analyzed, of which 363 (67.5%) were males. Good, moderate, and insufficient knowledge of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus awareness was 34.6%, 52.4%, and 13.0%, respectively. The knowledge level in females' participants was significantly less than the males (OR=2.4; p=0.0005). About 44% had diabetic risk, and the prevalence of diabetes risk was significantly high in males (OR=1.7), obesity (OR=2.9), overweight (OR=2.3), and high blood pressure (OR= 2.2) (all p < 0.05). The risk of diabetes was increased in those participants who consumed more bakery items (p < 0.05). The diabetes risk score was negatively associated with diabetes awareness levels (r= -0.29, p= 0.063).

The risk of diabetes in the general population can be prevented by proactive public health awareness campaigns, particularly among elderly age group, with lower educational level, physically inactive, and obese.

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease which has an adverse impact on the quality of patient's life, so patients often need to receive treatment for a long time. Selection of medications with high therapeutics effects and low cost is very important for patients to take medicine for a longer period of time. Sitagliptin is a drug which is widely used in clinics and can effectively control blood glucose level. This article explores the pharmacoeconomic value of Sitagliptin in the treatment of diabetes mellitus.

A total of 100 patients with diabetes mellitus treated were recruited in this study. The patients were randomly divided into 4 groups with 25 cases in each group. Patients in group A were treated with pioglitazone, group B with Sitagliptin, group C with metformin and group D with glimepiride. The cost of the drugs, the treatment results and adverse effects were compared.

Compared with group A, C and D, the cost-effectiveness ratio of group B was low (p<0.05), and the therapeutic effect ry, and the blood glucose level can be maintained at a stable state.
Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is caused by injuries from fracture after trauma and orthopaedic surgical procedures in the hind limbs. The symptoms of CRPS include warmth, pain, allodynia, and hyperalgesia. It is known that 5-hydroxytryptamine 3 (5-HT3) receptors contribute to hyperalgesia, but their role has not yet been fully elucidated. This study investigated the mechanism of pain relief when a 5-HT3 receptor antagonist was administered in a CRPS animal model.

To establish a CRPS animal model, 10-week-old Sprague-Dawley rats were used in the experiment. On the fourth week post tibial fracture surgery, we performed the von Frey test to measure mechanical allodynia. After performing behavioural tests, we collected blood and tissue samples after sacrificing the animals. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and western blot were also performed.

The experimental tibia fracture model-induced CRPS animals elicited increased 5-HT3 receptor expression, and the 5-HT transporter was decreased in the brain stem after 4 weeks of surgical intervention. Additionally, in CRPS-induced animals, both the concentration of substance P and the level of interleukin 6 were increased peripherally and centrally. Treatment with the 5-HT3 receptor antagonist, ramosetron, exerted an analgesic effect in the paw withdrawal test and was dependent on the attenuation of the 5-HT3 receptor population with inflammatory pain mediators.

These data suggest that treatment with the 5-HT3 receptor antagonist, ramosetron, in experimental CRPS animal models alleviated pain-related behaviours and may be a new therapeutic option or potential therapeutic agent for patients with CRPS.

Clinical evidence has proved that postinduction hypotension (PIH) is very prevalent in surgical patients undergoing general anesthesia, and commonly develops within 20 min after the induction of general anesthesia. However, the risk factors for PIH are not clear till now, therefore, a systematic review of current evidence was conducted.

PubMed, Embase, Cochrane library, and Web of Science were searched for articles published in English up to June 2021. The following search items were used postinduction, postintubation, propofol induction, anesthesia induction, general anesthesia induction, hypotension, risk factor, general anesthesia, surgery. The articles were screened using the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and the data from included studies were extracted and analyzed.

Twelve studies were included. Seven studies reported the association between age and PIH, and six showed age was a risk factor. selleck products Five or three studies reported the association between mean arterial pressure (MAP) and PIH or between e are potential risk factors for PIH, while body weight gain is a protective factor. Based on the current evidence, it is difficult to determine whether baseline blood pressure or gender is associated with the development of PIH.
Genetic mechanisms have been involved in the pathogenesis of obesity and weight loss due to bariatric surgery. The aim of our work was to evaluate the effects of rs2419621 genetic variant of ACSL5 gene on weight and metabolic changes after a robotic sleeve gastrectomy.

48 patients were enrolled. Comorbidities, biochemical and anthropometric parameters evaluation were registered before and after 3, 6 and 12 months follow up. Genotype of rs2419621 ACSL5 gene was evaluated.

We classified the subjects with a dominant model, in two groups those carriers T allele (TT+CT, 37.5%) and non-carriers T allele (CC, 62.5%). We reported a statistically significant reduction of body weight, waist circumference, percentage of excess of weight loss (EWL%), blood pressure, glucose, insulin, LDL-cholesterol and triglycerides after surgery. After 12 months, delta of (EWL%; 70.1% vs. 64,2%; p=0.04), weight (40.7+4.1 kg vs. 32.5+4.8 kg; p=0.03), waist circumference (29.1+3.1 cm vs. 22.2+2.8 kg; p=0.02) and triglycerides (51.2+9.1 mg/dl vs. 32.1+8.1; p=0.02) were higher in T allele carriers than non-T allele carriers. All comorbidities improved, but the percentage of patients with hypertriglyceridemia diminished early in the 3-month follow-up in the T-allele carriers, and at 12 months, no patient with the T allele had hypertriglyceridemia.

Our data showed that the genetic variant (rs2419621) of ACSL5 gene are associated with better improvement of adiposity and triglyceride levels in subjects with T allele, after a robotic sleeve gastrectomy.

One SNP in exon 9 (r5883) has been involved with high risk of cardiovascular disease in hypertensive subjects. The goal of the present study was to test the role of this genetic variant on lipid levels and Metabolic Syndrome (MS) in menopausal obese females.

The study enrolled a sample of 112 menopausal obese females. Measurements of adiposity parameters, blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, insulin concentration, insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), lipid profile, C reactive protein and prevalence of MS were recorded. Genotype of CETP gene polymorphism (rs5883) was studied.

The distribution of the rs5883 polymorphism in this menopausal obese population was 83.9% (n=94) (CC), 15.2% (n=17) (CT) and 0.9% (n=1) (TT). Adiposity parameters, blood pressure, fasting glucose levels, insulin levels, HOMA-IR, C reactive protein, total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and triglycerides were similar in both genotype groups (CC vs. CT+TT). Moreover, HDL cholesterol (8.5+1.2 mg/dl; p=0.01) and ratio total cholesterol/HDL-cholesterol (0.
